FaceTime with iPhone 5 does not

I noticed that my v.3 Facetime has stopped working recently.  I can't call or receive alerts from the call.  I use El Capitan 10.11.3 and I have an iPhone 5.  I checked the iPhone and Facetime and programmed to receive/send calls.  I don't see another post on this issue - please help.

1. Please make sure that you have followed the instructions in this article to support. Note that both iCloud and FaceTime on Mac should be signed the same Apple ID; These are two distinct steps. Also note that the Mac and the phone must be connected to the same Wi - Fi network. Ethernet does not work. Try to pair the phone to the Mac as a Bluetooth device device no longer works.

2. If you can make calls but cannot receive them, open the Notifications pane in system preferences, and then select do not disturb. If none of the three top boxes on the right is enabled, all incoming calls will be blocked in the corresponding conditions. If you want to use 'do not disturb', but you also want to receive calls when it is active, check or for both the two boxes below, according to your preference.

3. no continuity device won't work if or other devices connected to a VPN.

4. If the calling cell phone still does not work, disconnect from FaceTime and reconnect. You may need to do the same thing on the phone. The e-mail address that you use as identifier Apple must be able to receive FaceTime calls.

5. If you have more than two clients, and some of them are reports that the phone is not configured to allow calls intermittently, try to reduce the total number of customers to one or two.

6. If you still get a notice "Call failed" when you try to make outgoing calls, and then (after a report) you may set a password harder to your iCloud account. After that, iCloud is disconnected and sign back in on all your devices.
