"Failed virtual machines by HA" in vsphere - dashboard HA Insight Log 2.0GA

I was watching this dashboard and it seemed a lot of VMs were be flipped.

When I dug in the VM names and looked in vCenter, the events seem to correspond to the DRS events rather than HA events.

Hey Chris - this should be resolved in the content of vSphere LI 2.5 pack-can you confirm?

    I have a virtual machine that I've initially converted to Hyper-V to host VSphere. After I did it would start very well, but I got up two errors when starting.

  • Unable to ping Virtual Machines within ESXi host (vSphere Home Lab)

    I'm using VMware workstation 9, I have 4 virtual machines created inside the workstation.
    (192.168.1.0 network is defined inside VMware workstation VM network editor)

    Domain controller - 192.168.1.1
    ESX1 - 192.168.1.11 (2 NICs - vmnic0 and vmnic1 connected to n/w)
    Esx2 - 192.168.1.12 (2 NICs - vmnic0 and vmnic1 connected to n/w)
    Management Server - 192.168.1.5

    I have 2 virtual computers created inside the machine Esx1

    machine to SQL - 192.168.1.4
    vcenter1 - 192.168.1.2

    I have 1 computer virtual created inside the Esx2 machine

    vcenter2 - 192.168.1.3

    I can ping all the machines in the administration server - no problem

    Question - I can not ping vcenter1 to sql, cannot ping vcenter1 to vcenter2, cannot ping vcenter2 to sql.
    There is basically no communication between virtual machines with the Esx host and in the whole of the host. Firewalls is disable on all these machines virtual esx internal hosts.

    Any ideas how to solve this problem?

  • VSphere Client limit "the virtual machine console.

    Hello

    I have done several searches and could not find anything relevant so I thought I'd post the question.

    I have ESXi 4.0 running with the installation of 3 virtual machines. I connect to the ESXi 4.0 via Client.exe vSphere hypervisor in windows.  I have a couple of people using the same account. For this reason, we have noticed that, if one of us is connected to a virtual machine, the other person can open the console of the virtual machine also and mess with what they do.  He warns that many people are watching the same virtual machine with the bar at the top of the screen indicating there are now 2 sessions of active console.

    My question is: is there a way to limit the client to only allow a connection active console both to a virtual machine?  That way if someone is already logged in / virtual console and a view, no one else can.

    I understand that I can create several vSphere client accounts with restrictions on the permission to have each account only have access to a specific virtual machine, but I would like to avoid that if possible. Everyone should have access to each virtual machine... but not at the same time...

    Perhaps there is a configuration file (or the customer's option) to limit connections of the console to one (I guess that there is a limit somewhere?).  I found there is a "VpxClient.exe.config", but it doesn't look like this kind of information can be changed here?  If this is something that is encoded in the software I will drop it, but I thought I don't know if I asked

    Thanks for your time to answer this question,

    Dan

    by default, it is set as 25, but that can be changed.  However, it is on a customer by customer basis, so as far as I know, there is no comprehensive way to do this.

  • Students cannot "connect/disconnect the virtual machine's CD/DVD devices.

    I will start with this context (and apologies for the wall o ' text): I'm a newbie.  I took the course VMware local community college offers [VMware ESXI Server Enterprise (CIS197)], but I've not yet certified. And I don't have a real experience, except what I have taught myself so far.

    I recently accepted a position of learning associated with the College (think: glorified lab tech). I was tasked to work with stuff from VMware in the laboratory (among other things such as Cisco and Juniper equipment). There is no pass-down information like the previous left the position four months ago.

    We have a single host running ESXi 348481 4.1.0. "We have vCenter Server (5.5.0, 1312298), running on Windows Server (2008 R2, Enterprise Edition).  Access host and vCenter through two different IP, addresses using the vSphere client (either 5.5 or 4.1, using a single application - depends to know if I connect to the host or vCenter).

    At that time, the host is using local storage only (we have plans to change this, but it will take time).  The host is not a production on its own server, because it does not have a school systems.  He does, however, run a number of virtual machines in the lab, students use (Linux, Microsoft, Web design, etc.).  So, right now, I can't take it down.

    I was tasked to create a number of virtual machines that students can use to make the basic labs of Microsoft Windows 7.  So far, I have:
    -Created users, one per student, on the host.
    -Creating VMs, deploy one per student, I have a gold model vcenter.
    -Creation of roles to limit the access of students to just their VM attributed, which they access via client vSphere.
    -Created a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller that is also a DHCP server.
    -Created a virtual network, which is accessible only by the Windows 7 virtual machines and is not visible outside the vSphere environment (if I said this right - he does not see the Internet or school network).

    So far, it's all good.

    However, I need to be able to allow students the ability to edit the ISO file on which their VM points in order to complete some laboratories. I guess they would use the button "connect/disconnect the virtual machine's CD/DVD devices" on the taskbar (or console window). It does not work.
    I searched a lot and found that others have had the same problem.  However, all of the solutions I've tried so far have failed.  When they click 'Connect to ISO image on the data... store. "they get an error message means nothing to me,"an internal error has occurred in the vSphere Client. Details: Object Reference not set to an instance of an object. Contact VMware support if necessary.
    The role that I use for students has these settings:
    -Data store > Browse the data store
    -Virtual Machine > Configuration > change the settings of the device
    -Virtual Machine > Configuration > settings
    -A bouquet under the virtual machine > Configuration >
    -Configure CD media
    -Console interaction
    -Connection of the device
    -On
    -Power off
    -(and more, which I don't believe are important to the question)
    -State > create the snapshot
    -State > go back to the snapshot

    I tried "Virtual Machine > Configuration > add existing disk", "Virtual Machine > Configuration > add new disk" and "Virtual Machine > Configuration > add or remove an instrument" with no luck.

    Either by the way, the root account can do all these things, but no other account can - not even a game as an administrator account.

    I've seen mention I have apply the role in the data store.  It is perhaps part of the problem. I can't see the data store when I am connected to the host (wellll, I can, if I click on the host name, then on the Summary tab - but roles do not apply at this stage).  I see is 'Inventory' (which has virtual machines and Pools of resources), 'Rôles' and 'log files '.

    I can see the data store when logged in vCenter. Roles of students, however, are defined on the host computer. If I clone the role of users in vCenter and change this role cloned to have "permissions" that those who are on the host computer and then apply it to the data store, it still does not work.

    So, after all this (which I hope I've included all the necessary information), what can I do to allow the students to change ISO to which they are connected?

    Of course, if I left something, or if someone has a question, please ask.  I want to get this resolved as soon as I can.

    It turns out that I finally found the solution to the problem.

    What 'fixed', it is sufficient to vSphere Web Client to vCenter, which then allowed us to use Single Sign-On (SSO).  This, in turn, allowed us to define users and roles in vCenter (rather than having set them up directly on the host computer) which have then been applied to the VMS of students and also to the data store.

    Now, they can (de-) connect their ISOs at will.

    I find it interesting that vSphere Client (application) shows the users (and the things that they have access to), but it won't let you set of users.

  • Error recover attribute customized for Virtual Machine

    Hello

    I created a custom attribute TestAtt for the virtual machines by using the vSphere client. The screenshot of the configuration is attached.

    Now, I need to retrieve this value programmatically in my plugin, I'm developing using c#. Here is the snippet of the same thing. For some reason any below appeal fails by saying that the attribute is not found. Even when I used the DoesCustomizationSpecExists, I'm wrong. I am not getting any exception.

    I'm doing this in the right way?

    CustomProperty CustomizationSpecItem = new CustomizationSpecItem();

    customProperty = VIM_SERVICE. GetCustomizationSpec (SERVICE_CONTENT.customizationSpecManager, "TestAtt");

    You use the bad managed object to retrieve the custom fields. The customizationManager is used to deal with the customization of the guestOS using Linux quick Prep or Windows Sysprep.

    You want to use is customFieldManager - this is a vSphere SDK for Perl script that shows you how - addVMCustomField.pl

  • Correctly remove resources when the virtual machine is deleted

    Hello

    I've created a service plan to power off the virtual machine and delete the vcenter.  The workflow works very well, but apparently not released the vRA resources.

    Then he said: the virtual machine has actually deleted vsphere, but since the vRA, Managed administration portal machines, I found the virtual machine that I removed from the service by using the mentioned service blue print now appears as "missing."

    My question is how to downgrade the machine virtual and also removed its resources reserved correctly?

    Thank you

    Jimmy

    Hi, Jimmy - I met the same problem recently and did the following:

    1. download the VC:VirtualMachine object.  This can be done in several ways, but in my particular case, I use the com.vmware.library.vc.vm.getAllVMsMatchingRegexp module.

    2. get the VCAC:VirtualMachine of the object to VC:VirtualMachine object.  Still, there are different ways to do this.  I created a getVCACVm action, which takes a #1 VC:VirtualMachine object:

    var vCACVm = null;

    var uuid = vcVM.config.instanceUuid;

    var vCACVms = Server.findAllForType ("vCAC:VirtualMachine", "VMUniqueID eq '" + uuid + "'");

    If (vCACVms.length == 1)

    vCACVm = vCACVms [0];

    Return vCACVm;

    3. delete the VCAC:VirtualMachine entity.  You can use the com.vmware.library.vcac.deleteEntity module to handle this.

    KEEP IN MIND... This removes only the vCAC/vRA entity.  You should always turn off the virtual machine (if any, see: library/vCenter/Virtual Machine management/Power Management / power off the virtual machine and wait) and delete vcenter (see: vCenter/library/Virtual Machine management/Basic/remove virtual machine).  I do this before performing the three steps above.  He there maybe better, easier, faster, etc., ways to do it.  I hope this helps.

  • Deletes a virtual machine of vCenter possible?

    Hi all.

    We used to be a Horizon view manual pool composed of virtual machines
    from vCenter server. In a single operation for removal of VM in view, we

    wrong selected pool and confirmed the deletion. The

    operation put merrily and when we realized the error, we

    find vsphere client that all VMs funds (a lot of them

    were running) in the manual pool view both were removed from the inventory

    and from the disc in vCenter server.

    This offends and confuses us. It is commonly accepted that it is
    Cannot delete a virtual machine running of vCenter: vSphere client no
    won't give you a possibility to do so, and doing so in a CROWD ends by default.
    But the view above disaster might suggest otherwise.

    I have two questions:
    1. is it possible to delete a virtual machine running of vCenter?
    2. If so, how to prevent in vCenter?
    3. (somewhat off topic) is it possible to come up with any hacking or

    This makes it impossible to remove vm disk Office while being

    able to manipulate the view of the pool? We prefer to rather in vCenter.

    =====================================
    The mistake that we made to remove all the Horizon view desktop VMs:
    1. login to VMware view Horizon administrator.
    2. based on the inventory, select the pool.
    3. in the view of the pool, select the tab "inventory."
    4. Select and right click on a desktop PC, select 'delete pool... '. »
    5. confirm the deletion.

    Software used:
    vCenter Server: 5.5.0, 1945274

    Hello Sun Nathalie,

    Finally, I was able to create your question on my test bench, but as I said earlier, it is not possible to remove a power on the virtual machine, which was true. When I deleted the pool which consists of power on VM, I saw in the VC that VM were power off first and delete.

    I also talk to the team from the horizon and they said that this device is designed this way to support several other features. To save accidental deletion of the s VM that they introduced the warning message.

    Sorry for your loss.

    Thank you

    I know there is a lot of info out there on this and I think I have a working script prety good.  Much was borrowed from this thread, http://communities.vmware.com/thread/315193 many thanks to LucD.

    I opened a new thread, because the age of the old thread.  Not sure if this is the best way to do things.

    A very simple and intuitive brake system :-)

    Hello

    For historical reasons, we set up a virtual machine in the local disk of the ESX host.  This host is not connected to the San, where there is one group of another 3 ESX host.

    We would like to remove this standalone ESX host and migrate the virtual computer to the Cluster.  Should what tools I use?  Can use us the converter to do?  If so, when we connect to the Infrastructure of VI, does connect to the version independent host ESX OR import this virtual machine to an ESX Hos in the cluster?

    Hello

    your ESX host is connected to your vCenter?

    If Yes just turn off the virtual machine right click in vSphere client and choose migrate. Select destination storage and ESX server and it will be migrated.

    If it's not I turn off the virtual machine and just copy the whole directory of the VM on the new ESX Server with scp on ssh.

  • VMware 6.5.5 cannot import the virtual machine that uses 2GB "disks of split.

    Hello

    I'm using VMware Workstation 6.5.5 under Win XP. I tried to import a virtual machine that was created by using the option 'Split' virtual disks into files of 2 GB. The import fails and presents a pop-up: ' Conversion Assistant/cannot determine the guest operating system. The log file includes the line "could not find the disk cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk. This file does not exist of course, there are more files cofortcol3v01-cl1 - s001.vmdk, cofortcol3v01-cl1 - s002.vmdk and so on. The machine virtual original (cofortcol3v01) has been created under VMware Workstation 5.1, and it does not under Workstation 6.5.5.

    Is this a known problem in the conversion utility? Is there a work around for this problem?

    Thank you.

    -Phil Anzel

    FYI... VMware Workstation peut import a Virtual Machine that uses twoGbMaxExtentSparse discs.

    The log file includes the line "could not find the disk cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk. This file does not exist of course, rather there are files cofortcol3v01-cl1 - s001.vmdk, cofortcol3v01-cl1 - s002.vmdk and so on. The machine virtual original (cofortcol3v01) has been created under VMware Workstation 5.1, and it does not under Workstation 6.5.5.

    Is this a known problem in the conversion utility? Is there a work around for this problem?

    The problem is that you're missing the "disk DescriptorFile", "cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk" and which is why it's a failure and not a limitation of the Conversion utility.

    Also if you actually had a Virtual Machine created in VMware Workstation 5.1 you can simply run directly under VMware Workstation 6.5.5 without having to run the import command.

    Anyway, if you have a backup that you can recover the file "cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk" then you should be fine and if you have not then a new can be created.  If you can archive (compress) files vmware*.log (usually 4 of them) in a single zip file archive and tied him to a post in response, then one of us will create a new file "cofortcol3v01 - cl1.vmdk", based on the information contained in files vmware.log for you, if you don't know how to do it yourself.

  • Question of clone Virtual Machine

    When you clone a virtual machine by using the vSphere 4.1 client and it's personalization of the guest operating system, and he said "customization Windows resources are not found on the server.", what it refers to?  The server vCenter, the local PC or the VM I'm cloning?

    Using the stand-alone converter, I know put the correct sysprep files in the user folder, but I don't see how that comes into play here.

    The host OS vCenter.  You must place the sysprep files in the appropriate location.
