  Hi, I wanted to know the esx communicate anything to the storage when its doing a vmotion. Lets say I make a vmotion between 2 esxi hosts share the same storage. I have a private just vnic to vmotion and a separate management and logging FT.  My vmkernel default gateway is the management of vnic. I do all the fiber channel for the shared storage.

  Once a vmotion over, the new esx host must tell the storage that the vm now lives on me. If storage is all CF, how do?

  Dear all

  This may seem obvious, but I'd really appreciate a confirmation of my thoughts.

  We have an ESX3.5 U3 environment with 16 hosts managed by virtual Center. Each physical host has two network adapters for each of the three vSwitches (Service Console, vmkernel and VM network). The two network adapters in each vswitch are powered by two different Cisco 6509 s for redundancy purposes. Last week, for a separate ground, one of Ciscoes was closed, which means that none of the three vswitches had network redundancy in place.

  Yesterday, it was noted that VMs were flicking between hosts - i.e. a VM would be visible on ESX06 for 5 seconds, then ESX11 to 5, then 06 once again, etc. The event log shows that HA is seeking to exchange the virtual machine per physical host x physical host there several times. It is always possible to RDP to the virtual machines, but there is no possibility to manage other aspects of the virtual machine by VC (i.e. vmotion), as I suppose, VC never knows exactly where it should be!

  My first feeling is that HA look at the Console of Service of all physical hosts vswitches and determine that there is a lack of redundancy and therefore seeks to move virtual machines from one host to another, then get stuck in a loop. However, I think that HA has been invoked only (which is actually to move a virtual machine from one host to another) If a particular host actually exit blinked eye and fell completely network - not only if she lost a redundancy...

  I would appreciate your opinion. And by the way, I'm not sure when the networking team will be able to get the second Cisco and running again, so want to rule out the possibility that this problem can be caused by something else.

  I am developing an ESX solution, and because of the budget and space constrants just gave me a single server.  I installed ESX 4.0 on this server, and then I created virtual machines that have become the ESX 3.5 servers.  I was able to raise virtual machines to power and run in the nested virtual machines.  My problem is, now I'm developing a solution ESX 4.0, but we use Windows 2008 64bi.  Does anyone know how to get a host internal 64-bit to be able to run on an ESX 4.0 host externally.

  Physical box ESX 4.0

  -Virtual Server ESX 4.0

  -Nested virtual Windows 2008 64 bit server

  Does anyone know how to get the 64-bit of Windows 2008 Server to run on virtual server ESX 4.0.  I've already activated VT on ESX 4.0 virtual settings, but I can't find a place in the Virtual Machine BIOS to enable VT any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Material assistance (VT) is not virtualized.  Thus, nested virtual machines cannot be 64-bit and is the reason why you don't see VT options in the BIOS of the virtual machine .

  If I read you correctly, you have ESX4 installed on bare metal and you have ESX 3.5 VMs.  Now that you are trying to create a virtual machine in 64-bit Windows.  You can create them in the ESX 3.5 environment.  You must create a virtual ESX4 machine.  (IOW, not nested).

  In addition, after you enable VT in physical BIOS, you must turn off the physical machine.  (Not just restart.  (Power off).

  I currently have a server farm ESX 4 host running 4.0U1 and vCenter.  There are ~ 75 guests through these four boxes (remains with capabilities at this point).  I would like to install the pack of 4 view of 10 users that we have with our membership, and I'm stuggling to work on the scenario resulting.  I don't mind setting up a second server vCenter if I have to, but I'm limited (hardware) to the 4 existing hosts we already use for our farm.

  1. What is the impact of installing a login server and point to an instance of vCenter which already exists and is configured for our server environment?

  2 what happens (if any) can functionality I give up sharing the server vCenter with view 4?

  It should work without giving up all the features.

  According to your display configuration there will be a lot more power and provisioning on your vCenter server operations so that migh want you to separate the two.

  But with only 10 users, I don't see that as a problem.

  One thing to know is that sight is currently trolling for vCenter. (Only supported by vCenter not U3/U4 U5 again and there could be problems with 64:bit)

  Question: When I connect to my guests with the VSphere client it forces me to re-download the VSphere client. As you can see from the attached PDF there pretty much all installed versions. Yet, he's trying to go to vsphereclient.vmware.com to try to download again (which cannot because it is on a closed network).   Well, to allow another host to share the local data store, the host must be able to act as an NFS server. The problem is, there is no service in one of the ESX version which able to serve that. So, as said what a.p., no, is not possible.

  No, unfortunately it turns out that it is impossible. You will not be able to see more than the 4 GB, unless your host operating system is able to see the memory using a PAE switch, or by using a 64-bit host OS. As Vista does not support the PAE switch, your guest operating system will be limited to the 4 GB as the host OS.

  You must configure this on "Configuration > VM works / stop" option. You can make a different policy for each virtual machine or one for all.

  Next step would be to check a second time your zoning and lun masking. There could be a conflict with the various mpio drivers between eva and the clariion. I would try to remove all mpio drivers too.
