Fax Services component missing

I try it to add Services of Fax to my computer, but when I go to ' Add/Remove Windows Components' the 'Fax Services' component is not in the list?

The list is long of "Accessories and utility" to the "Indexing Service".

I am running Windows XP Pro SP3!

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I'm really in the water over my head here, but go to C:\Windows\inf and find sysoc.inf.

Open it with Notepad and see if it contains the following line about 4 or 5 lines down in the [Components] section:

Fax = fxsocm.dll, FaxOcmSetupProc, fxsocm.inf, 7

fxsocm.inf (also in C:\Windows\inf) clearly has something to do with the installation of the Fax components, but I don't know if simply right click on the file and selecting 'Install' will actually do the trick or if something else is needed.

  • Uninstall Win XP fax service

I have Win XP sp3.  I tried to install a component, Windows, Services of FAX.  Measure the installation proceeded, it ask several DLLs.  Since I was in a hurry and didn't want to dig through my records, I clicked on the button ignore the installation went along.

Of course, the program does not.  I would uninstall FAX services and try to reinstall, this time is not ignoring the requested dll.

How can I uninstall this component of Windows?

When you have downloaded the zip file and right click to "Extract all", just choose a location very convenient to put the extracted folder.  In general, I download to my desktop and then the extract file will appear on the desktop, but no matter... as long as you remember how to get to this folder of extraction.  So, if you downloaded XP_Fax.zip on your desktop after you run the wizard of extraction, you will have a folder named XP_Fax on your desktop (in addition to the original file from XP_Fax.zip).

If you start by going to control panel > add or remove programs and then click the icon in the left pane to "Add/Remove Windows components", you should get to the "Windows Components Wizard", as it-->

It would be extremely surprising if NONE of the boxes had been checked, but if the "Fax Services" box is unchecked, then that probably means that there can be no settle (because files are missing).  If you check the box and click the next button, you should get a display "Insert disc", where you click on OK, then a "files needed" screen.

In the "required files" screen, click the Browse button and navigate to the folder that you extracted.  So, if you have saved the file extracted to your desktop, you could navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\\Desktop\XP_Fax.  When you click the OK button, the wizard should install Fax Services.  Click on the button "Finish".

To configure things, see this article--> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306550

Good luck.  Even if you get services of Fax installed, you are finally able to send and receive faxes depends on whether the notoriously capricious XP Fax Services like your particular fax modem.  The response of stock for the problems at this stage was to check and make sure your fax modem has been included in the Windows hardware compatibility list [XP].  Unfortunately, this list is long gone, and as far as I know, you can't yet find a copy of it using the Internet Archive (aka The Wayback Machine).  The odds are better if you have a fax modem set up all equipment rather than the cheaper "winmodems" that came later.  But give it a shot.  And don't forget that you must connect your fax modem to a single old analog telephone line (try to use VoIP - phone Internet - requires an additional set of Pandora's box do deal with).

  • Fax Home XP: installation process SP3 iso downloaded on CD, but still not installed, recognized by the fax service

Try to install the fax component in XP home. However, when the installation program asks for the location of the SP3 CD-ROM (as it seems a fxs file * folder i386) will not accept the ISO burned I (on disc L) which is functional because I used to install the service pack, even if the machine is regularly updated. I noticed the i386 folder and included the extracted files in the process (for my D drive), but all are deleted once SP3 ends or ends after the extraction of the file. Before SP3 installed, file asked for when the browse option to locate the SP3 CD window was fxsapi, now it asks fxscfgwz. It is not in my drive C or D. Fax has been so would we in the 80s and 90s!

  • My components fax service windows will not let me add it, it says insert the xp disc I don't no one.

I'm trying to set up my fax machine!  My windows fax component service won't let me add says insert xp disc which I did not and said look these files H:\WXHOEM\i386. Please help me

Since we don't know anything about your system, I'll give you some instructions which will work for XP Service Pack 3.

To install the fax of XP with no CD Service, download the version of Service Pack 3 to XPFax.zip since my SkyDrive and extract/unzip the file in a folder on your desktop or somewhere on your system to a folder name, you can remember (there are 35 files in zip archive).

During the installation of the XP Fax Services and it asks you your installation CD, change the location of the file to point to the folder where the 35 files on your system.  Whenever the installation asks you for a file on your CD, change the location to look in the folder XPFax, until the installation is complete.

    Restart and test.

Here's how to get the file XPFax.zip from my SkyDrive:

I downloaded a copy of XP Pro SP3 files you need on my SkyDrive (everyone has a SkyDrive for file sharing).

Here is the link to my SkyDrive and you can get the file you need here:

    http://CID-6a7e789cab1d6f39.SkyDrive.live.com/redir.aspx?RESID=6A7E789CAB1D6F39! 311

When you see the files available for download, you will not see the file extension (.exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip etc), but when download you them they will have the right extension (most of the time).

When you download the file (especially if you use Internet Explorer), when you get a chance to save the file, it cannot save the file with an extension (such as .exe, .dll, .cpl, .sys, .zip, etc) then you will need to manually add the extension appropriate to the file when you download the file before you save it.

You can download the file without the extension, and then rename the file to add the appropriate extension.  You don't want to use a file called XPFax when the name of the file should really be called XPFax.zip (if the downloaded file has no extension you will need to change the name of the file to add the appropriate extension to run).

  • HP Fax Service back.

I know many people who get an all-in-one printer with fax functionality, but don't quite know the world they can fax to test.  Well fear not.  HP has a tool that allows you to test your fax connection.  It's called the HP rear Fax Service, and it is simple to use.  Once you have your fax configuration, just send a fax of a page, black and white at 1-888-473-2963.  If the fax has been received successfully, you will receive a fax automatically.  If the return fax prints without having to tell it to print, then all is right installation.  If the fax does not print automatically or you will never have a fax in the back, then something might be wrong with the Setup program, or telephone lines.  In very rare cases, the Fax back Service is unavailable.

    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot install the Windows Fax Service

I used to have a FAX in Control Panel > printers and Faxes screen, but I no longer. I went to control panel > Add/Remove programs/add Windows components and some Fax Services. The installation process starts and a Fax icon appears on the screen with my other printers. Until the installation finished, however, this fax icon disappears.

I check start > all programs > Accessories > communications > Fax but the menu drop-down should be, he's not here, and the box says just (blank).

I recently installed a new Canon printer that has the ability to "Fax From a Computer" that allows me to send faxes directly from a document using the modem in the PC. I think the only action of the Canon printer is made that a fax has been sent.

After I installed the Canon printer I got a Canon Fax icon both Windows Fax icon, but I had a problem of phone and none of them worked. I have fixed the problem of telephony and the works of Canon Fax function in the computer, but I get the problem described above, when you try to install the Windows Fax.

Is there something that prevents the addition of a second Windows fax service?

How to go beyond this issue and allow multi-touch Fax from Windows?

We consider that you have Windows XP with service pack 3 installed some variety.  If this is not correct, explain what version of Windows you have.

What was the 'problem of telephony' and what did you do to fix?

Open the Services applet (start > run > services.msc > OK) and make sure that each of the following is running and has shown startup type

    Fax (auto start)
    Print spooler (Autostart)
    Telephony (manual start)

Original title: Windows Update will not install on the new load XP

    Hi all

Thanks for your replies.  Sorry I didn't answer sooner, but he got late last night, and I got to reregister the Qmgr.dll and Qmgrprxy.dll BITS files.

I clicked Start, click on run and typed the command following, and then click OK:

Start, run and in the run box, Type regsvr32 qmgr.dll, click OK.
Start, run and in the run box, Type regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll, click OK.

I was then able to start the updates.  There are 124 updates, the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and the .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for versions of .NET 2.0 to 3.5 (KB951847) x 86.  He downloaded 124 updates, but even once asked me to insert the disc for qmgr.dll when he was installing the 10th update.  I find the qmgr.dll file again and pressed OK, but it seems to hang forever and do nothing, then I simply cancelled updates and closed during the night.  I have been relieved to have solved the problem of BITS, but is concerned by the hang up on the tenth update installation and he called again for the qmgr.dll file during the installation of updates.

This morning, when I rebooted, it installed some updates at startup, and I restarted again.  He then held I first install the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and the .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for versions of .NET 2.0 to 3.5 (KB951847) x 86 to date.  N BITS issue for that.  It took time, but completed settle.  Restart again and now there are only 21 updates to high priority required.  My guess is that he downloaded all 124 updates last night, but when I cancelled the installation after hanging on #10, he just started to install it again this morning and did so successfully.

However, when I try to install the 21 remaining, he has not once again, and I find that the BITS service is not in the services again.  After I have re-enter the BITS service and restart it, the downloads are working again.

I am now what I may need to reinsert and restart the BITS service whenever I need to download an update.

Ideas, suggestions or comments?  I am slowly solve problems and if I persist, I can get this all taken care.

    Hi Dan,.

From what you wrote, I understand where you are getting confused. Here are the steps to follow to solve this problem.

Open the Windows search tool, copy / paste the following text, and then click Search: qmgr.dll

Research should show this file in the following locations:

    C:\Windows\System32
    C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bits

I hope they are all present, follow these steps to register the service.

Click on start, run and copy/paste: regsvr32 qmgr.dll and click OK
(If you do not have the command run in the start menu, hit the Windows key + R, instead)

Do the same with this file: regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll and then restart.

    Here are the next steps.

Copy / paste this command in the field to run, and then click OK
    %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\qmgr.inf

Windows will launch a dialog box asking you to insert the Windows installation CD. Ignore this and change the way downstairs to C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386

The reason to change the path to the i386 folder is that the files that are there are newer than those on the Windows installation CD.

Then restart the PC again and continue with the rest of the troubleshooting steps.

Click on start, run and copy/paste the following and click OK: services.msc

You should now be able to see the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, or just "BITS" displayed in the list of Services.

Double click it to open BITS and then click on the Start button. This is just a test to make sure that it works correctly.

If you get 2 error: cannot find the specified file, click on start, then run again and copy / paste the following command, and then click OK:
    Tracking Add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters /v ServiceDll /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %windir%\System32\qmgr.dll

Restart then try and start the BITS.

If you get the same error again, copy / paste the following text in the field run and click OK:
    Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup

Reboot once more and then try and start the BITS.

Let me know how you please.

The December Patch Tuesday me including the depth of the plumbing of Windows XP, I never want to see again.  While exploring positions in the community, I found your advice very useful and have managed to get the BITS running again on my desktop computer Dell XP venerable followed an update of all security patches.  I had less success with an installation of XP that I have running on a Mac in a VMWare virtual machine.  Until Tuesday, he had run for a few years with no problems.  Now, however, he is reluctant bits.

Initially, there was not on the list of services, to fix registry of employing ElderL, I was able to add SONGS to the list of services. When I try to start the service, I get an alert stating "cannot start BITS service on Local computer.  Error 1290: 0x50a. "Thinking that I must follow your script to register the service, I started by checking the qmgr.dll file is in three places you listed.  It is not the case.  Search the file in C:\WINDOWS\system32.  Indeed, C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 and C:\WINDOWS\system32\bits records do not exist in my WINDOWS folder.  So I stopped when I hit your condition, "if they are all present."  Properties system confirms that I have SP3 installed in a 2002 version of Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
