Feature suggestion: virtual disk via USB hot

I suggested this feature in VMWARE 2 years, I had not seen this be taken seriously. But I insist it is very useful and would it make Workstation & other products much more powerful convinent server for users.

Essentially now existing virtual disks cannot be ADDED to a virtual machine as an IDE or SCSI drive, this must be done after the virtual machine is stopped. Thus, it is not hot.

The equvilant material action REAL hot plug is to plug your physical hard drive via a SATA to USB adapter and connect to PC and PC will detect a new USB dive. For a VITURAL Machine, I takes VMWARE to write a function to CONNECT a virtual disk available (all files hard) in a VM running via the USB interface.

VMplayer and workstations can now connectable to warm physical USB readers of thumb, but not no virtual disks, it's a shame. It would be a feature very very handy and popular because there are so many things, that you can do with it.

Without this feature, users will have to turn off the virtual machine and fix the existing virtual disks and then after use, turn off again to remove them.

Attachable to hot only saves a lot of time.

I mean WHY NOT? VMWARE should really consider this, I hope.

What version of virtual hardware is configured?

    Hello, GalaxyTechService.

It is perhaps not as complicated as it may seem, in fact. There is a wizard that you can use to return the disk to the raid set. Right-click the affected virtual disk and select 'Replace physical disk' and use the wizard that opens.

In the upper area will be "missing disks", and in the lower field will be options available to replace them.

    Then just follow the steps.

Let me know how it goes.

I am trying to install Windows 7 via USB, (El Capitan, Macbook Pro - early 2011), but this mistake "No. BOOTABLE DEVICE - INSERT BOOT DISK AND press ANY KEY ' when bootcamp restart my macbook to begin the installation. Any ideas?

You cannot use a USB on Mac 2011 Installer. Please burn the ISO on a physical DVD Windows (a DVD - R Carbon SL on the rate of burning slower is better) and use it to install Windows. The file Info.plist changes only allowing the creation of USB, but does not fully support a USB Installation.

  • Installed ESXi on USB/Flash but swap does not seem to have been placed on the virtual disk

    Hello

I've read several times that when you install ESXi 5.1 on flash media he creates a work space available on a virtual disk of 4 GB in/tmp/scratch so that the USB itself is not used for temporary data to extend the life of the USB.  However, this doesn't seem to be from my experience and I was wondering if someone can help me to confirm that my disc scratch is actually on a virtual disk or whatever on the USB.  I should mention as well as installing ESXi has identified correctly as 'flash' disc type and the disc as a "Generic USB drive»

After installation, I noticed two things:

1 log-in user activity logs are able to survive a reboot (I don't think they should the ramdisk is dissolved after a reboot)

    2. There is no directory with the path/tmp/scratch

Unfortunately I can not directly determine where the partition scratch is (be it on USB or RAM) because I did not have a file ' / etc/fstab "watching (even if I under ESXi 5.0 disk a hard base install?) and it doesn't seem to be a 'mount' command I can use to look at the existing mounts either.

Can anyone tell me what can I do to verify that the directory used for temporary files is actually a virtual disk and not on the USB drive itself?  Hours of research are presented only the forum messages and documentation clearly indicating that the file will use "/ tmp/scratch", but that just isn't the case.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello

    aforby
When I "Blink" virtual disk 0 or 1 virtual disk, all five discs blink.  -Can I use the task to "Reconfigure" virtual disk 1 or is it important?

Yes, it's important. I would not rely on the blink function to determine which virtual drive is that. I suggest that you review the details for the virtual disks and verify that hard disks are part of each virtual disk. Details should also list the virtual disk's RAID level.

  • Play a suspended virtual machine, vmdk file not found or the specified file is not a virtual disk

Hi, I have a problem that I can't solve with the usual methods.

    My data

    • software: VMVware Workstation 6.5.1 build 126130

    • Host: NB HP Compaq 2510p with 2 GB of ram

    • OS: Windows XP Pro SP3 5.12.2600

I have a Win XP Pro SP3 computer virtual created for my work:

    • 6-5 - 7.0 VM workstation

    • RAM: 512 MB

    • Windows XP Pro operating system

    • Processors: 1

    • CDRom: Autodetect

    • Floppy: Autodetect

    • USB: present

    • Sound card: Autodetect

    • Display: Autodetect

    • HARD drive is divided into 2 GB files

The problem lies in the HARD disk:

    • 40 GB declared

    • 0 MB recognized by the system

My VM was functional complete. After a suspension

    • The State remains suspended

    • When I try to resume, a pop-up window will appear "file not found: IATROS VM.vmdk" go through it...

the vmdk file exists (see my attached files).

When I try to see the features on the parameters, appears "the specified file is not a virtual disk" and all data in the pop-up are unknown or missing.

    I tryied to use the vmware_vdiskmanager with the command vmware - vdiskmanager.exe - R 'e:\appo1\IATROS VM.vmdk' in vain also.

I think that it is necessary to recreate a file descriptor for disc divided into 2 GB files.

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsotes/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1026266

but, if we compare the contents of the VMDK file with the discussion in the article, there seems to be no problem of format or content.

There are suggestions to solve the problem?

    can I await your response?

  • drive external hard connected via usb hub powered Time Capsule guard fall...

    Hello.

Try using a player external 3.5 "connected via USB hub powered to my Time Capsule to serve as a backup Time Machine secondary.

When I connect the external hard drive, it turns out, and everything seems good (Yes it is correctly formatted). I see the external hard drive in my time machine preferences panel and also the desktop browser window, etc..

After selecting the drive hard as the second backup TM, I start TM. After a few minutes the backup fruitbodies. Audit of airport utility, the drive no longer appears in the profile of Time Capsule. I can't turn back the drive without unplugging / plugging the USB cord. I went to HD (WD green 4to) and HGST 4to - deleted both.

What is the speaker (the box is powered)? Can you have a USB hub between the external hard drive and time capsuls? Something else?

Just seems like something somewhere that expire, causing it to drop the connection...

Thanks for your useful suggestions to fix this!

Is your TC the Gen5, model AC?

I must say that your experience is not uncommon. I tested it myself recently and was disappointed in how the poor reliability has been... Although not as bad as yours... in fact cutting in a few minutes to start a backup is ridiculous.

What is the speaker (the box is powered)?

Quality of the envelope varies a lot... What is it??

If this is the typical brand X... Plug it into your Mac. is it reliable?

Go to your control panel and dig up the actual USB chip used... I don't know if we can help on type a lot. But it helps us determine the fleas are a problem.

I found the hard drive in the finder to mount helped... not the sparsebundle that must be mounted by Time Machine... but the disk must be mounted in the finder so that you can copy files back to him.

I start TM. After a few minutes the backup fruitbodies.

Check in the finder, it has created the sparsebundle and works.

Can you have a USB hub between the external hard drive and time capsuls?

It's our usual recommendation... but he won't always help... especially if the USB hub is another brand X...

Note that all societies are changing USB tokens at the drop of a hat... some seller of a rival company arrives and offers them 1 c off the coast of 1 million chips it is common to spend even in the middle of a race. Even the tenors have no satisfactory fixed hardware...

The computer has loads of memory... and may contain drivers for hundreds of different USB tokens... but the TC is a very limited amount of space and with questions if the driver is not fair.

I started a thread for a database just now... has not progressed much.

  • SSD external via USB does not start by default

    Hello Apple community.

I have a problem with my new external SSD. Given that the base model Mac Mini end of 2014 comes with a disk HARD 5400 RPM drive, I wanted to go to an SSD without having to tear the whole unit. I wanted to exhaust the option 'boot from USB' and I'm having a strange problem. I cloned my Mac to the new drive SSD and slapped in a box set of the speaker. I connected via USB and changed my 'startup disk' to use the external SSD drive. However, it does not start on this unit automatically. When I reboot and discovers the "boot manager" I see the USB being initialized automatically. After disconnection / re - plug the drive in, it appears as a boot option. Once it is initialized, everything works fine and I can boot into El Capitan without any problem using the SSD.

I am trying to find a way that I can get the Mac to initialize the SSD to the boot upward and choose default. I don't want to have to re - connect the drive whenever I want to start on the SSD drive... Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  • RN104 freezes when you make significant transfers via USB 3.0 on 6.4.0

My RN10400 works great since the purchase. However, I have never transferred via USB abundantly; all data have been loaded on the network. Now I have a lot of folders on a drive HARD USB 3.0 that I try to move to the NAS. When I try to copy on it will start at full speed and stays there for about five minutes. It seems then to have overloaded and from 100% to frozen in a fraction of a second. No no warning, no error, just insensitive and frozen. I tried the copy three times with the same result, and I have to remove the power to remit on the. There are no applications installed or running. 6.4.0 ordinary. Whenever I have pull the plug I need to Resync quickly the data on the volume, while this process is getting old.

    Any suggestions?

Update: I've upgraded to 6.4.1RC and I still have the same question. A pull the plug to get back on the new =)

    Hello, @Learning2NAS

In my case (erratic freezezs when writing large files on the disk).

An upgrade to 6.4.1 RC1 + Factory reset (AKA factory reset under 6.4.1) solved the problem.

As a test I did went back to 6.4.1 to 6.4.0 stable (what joke ;-)) and it froze again immediately.)

If you're up to wipe your NAS, try a factroy restore 6.4.1 before attempting to downgrade.

Please post the result of this, it would help many other contributors

  • Unable to connect to the virtual disk Service, Virtual Disk Manager Interface not registered

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on this laptop as a new installation about six months ago.  Since then, I don't think I ever ran diskmgmt.  Today, I joined a new external hard drive usb, it reported the drivers installed fine, but then the installation bombed at the beginning.  I went to verity, what had happened and has run diskmgmt.msc (as an administrator), but she came back with the message "Unable to connect to the virtual disk Service" and also a small OK msgbox appeared with the title "Virtual Disk Manager" and the "Interface not registered" message

I disconnected the USB hard drive and tried again diskmgmt, but no change.

I restarted in safe mode, tried diskmgmt, but no change.

I ran sfc/scannow, but it has reported that it found no errors.

I checked that the virtual disk service has been configured as a textbook in services.msc, and event viewer showed that when I ran diskmgmt he started VDS and then stopped VDS.

I tried again, but still not like before.

    Is there some dll I can't regsrv32?

  • Ask the synchronization of Contacts and calendar via USB while using VersaMail with Exchange ActiveSync push email

East of the request to add a new feature in VersaMail in a future version. A Palm support Rep suggested I post this here.

I came across Palm Article ID: 42600 which States "once you set up an Exchange ActiveSync account in VersaMail, you will be able to synchronize the calendar, Contacts or by e-mail via the USB HotSync cable. Would be nice if this was not the case when the synchronization of Contacts and calendar are turned off. A call to technical support confirmed there is no way to do it with the current version of the product.

I found a competing product, RoadSync from DataViz allows me to synchronize ONLY e-mail with ActiveSync, so it would appear to be technically possible.  The problem with RoadSync is is not a true push email on the Treo 680 and it seems a bit expensive with less features than VersaMail.

Please consider publishes a new version or a patch to allow synchronization of Contacts and calendar via USB when you use Exchange ActiveSync push email.

I can certainly present this as a feature request.

  • Move the existing 5.5 ESXi installation of the HARD disk on USB.

I need help on what would be the best approach to move my existing ESXi 5.5 install the HARD disk to the new USB.

Then you tell your environment uses the local disk to your VM data store (s)? In addition, you want to move your partition ESXi to USB and recover the local disk space? I think if it was me, the the more safe thing to do would be to shut down the system, pull on the local drive on just enough to disable / he dethrone, insert the USB key and run ESXi installation. Then (after checking the boot order) reinstall the local disk and boot the system. Once the USB key version boots, make your configurations (DNS, NTP, license etc.) and add the data store (s) existing local drive. You can then add existing virtual machines via "navigation" of the data store (s).

  • HP LaserJet M401dn via USB

Environment: Horizon view 5.2 with WIN7 linked clones and persistent disk.

I have a HP LaserJet P1606dn printer. When you connect the printer via the usb port (this is how it should be implemented), the printer attempts to load, but installs as an optical device. The drivers are on the link clone. What I did next is to connect the printer to the network and to enter an IP address. I then went in the printer settings via a browser. The printer is a parameter called "automatic detection". I have disabled auto connect. Then I unplugged the printer and connected via USB. Now the printer is displayed correctly on a clone of link and works all the time.

Now for the M401dn I added the drivers to the virtual machine. When I connect the printer via USB, it prompts you to install the drivers. You can go through this installer and it will install the printer on the link clone, but when you restart the machine the clone of link does not keep the installer. That's how a clone of link is supposed to work. I tried connecting via an IP network and see if there is an auto connect as the P1606dn, but I don't see one. So, how can I get this printer to be installed on a clone of link via USB?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I found the answer. For all those that are insterested the HP LaserJet M401dn printer has a display screen. Turn on/off service, HP Smart Install. Disable Smart Install.
