  • The access permissions to the NTFS file in "C:\windows" and "C:\Program files" are not secure

    Hey there
Had a minor shock after I discovered that the access permissions default to the "limited users" in "C:\Windows\" and "C:\Program files\" are raised by the image automatically XP - Pro installed on my Tecra A6.

Default access permissions to the NTFS file in "C:\windows" and "C:\Program files" for "A limited number of users" should not have permissions "File/writing data Creation" or "Creation of folders/adding data. This opens up for what is called dll redirection attacks (ref: http://blogs.msdn.com/aaron_margosis/)

When you install a Win XP a normal retail or OEM Windows XP cd these two folders are special protected by this measure (not allowing the permissions listed for limited users). Installation procedure of your image work it around (in established Microsoft) measure and open breaches in security.

Now I have to drop all these permissions and hope that all of the utilities of your work for limited users after that that, otherwise you get a very unhappy customer on your hands. ;)

    Hi Henrik

Thanks for the information. I have a common user of Toshiba and I have never heard of such attacks to redirect m .dll.
However, I think that if each user install antivirus software (nothing unusual at the time; everyone should use) and activate the Microsoft Windows updates and OS firewall should be safe.

    Greetings :D

PS: I read in this forum that sometimes some Toshiba applications as energy saving does not work under limited account.

  • How to change several files file extension in windows 8 pro

    Hi team,

I'm working on one of my animation projects, by mistake I gave the name of file as practice. # instead of practice # .ext
I made more than 500 files with the same name and now I want to change the file as .iff extension

I tried so many as ren and xcopy commands...

    But still can not get...

Please help, because I don't want to change each file extension individually.

Some of the file has been changed individually as below a picture, but I more than 500 left to change files and I don't want to make these files with correct extension because it consumes a lot of time...

    Thanks and greetings

I do not understand your problem and the first link specifically mentions the file extensions.

Batch change/rename the Extensions of files in Windows
    http://www.AddictiveTips.com/Windows-tips/batch-change-rename-file-extensions-in-Windows/

And the Google link also specifically mentions the file extensions too.

See if you can get your hands on this program.  It allows to rename the files so that they have no extension.  Then use it to set a fixed file on these files without extension renamed extension.  It worked for me so it could for you.

  • small circle turns / page does not load / triangle problem is almost all the time

The small circle of connection lights up and turns anything - whether through a bookmark, email, a typed in the address. He runs and runs, then twice or says problem loading page ALMOST all the time (I can't understand our why or why not). I just downloaded the latest versions of Firefox and Thunderbird. I check my AVG and Firefox has a clear pass.

It is possible that your security (firewall, antivirus) software blocks or limit Firefox or the process of plugin-container without you inform, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.

Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

    See:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe or make changes.

Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.

    See "create a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile in the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

  • Messages arrive, but the "Inbox" or any other folder open even if the content still there (and almost all the menu items do not work)!

Using last Thunderbird on Windows 7. Had problems with the operating system and had to use a system restore. When I opened TB, it displays the folders in the left pane, but the credits of "Thunderbird Mail-...» "and the 3 topics: E-mail; Accounts; and advanced features. None of the files would open. I used the "Search messages" function and has been able to show existing and new messages in the 'Inbox '. Also wanted to know if files are always in my 'profile'... and they were all there where they should be. (And almost all the menu items are disabled).
I wonder if I need to reinstall Thunderbird... maybe the OS issues this morning - and restore - have corrupted or damaged key elements of the program?
    Thank you...

System Restore is not always a very good thing for applications.

Reinstall is unlikely to help. But if your accounts are all imap and that you do not have a lot of other data (address book, for example) in Thunderbird, you could start from scratch.

But before that, you should try Thunderbird started in SafeMode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

  • All the icons and screen menus desapeared start-up; Windows XP.

After that I had "repaired" my PC with "AntiVir" asked me if I want all the files to repair damaged. I clicked 'Yes', the PC has restarted and I was amazed to see all the icons and the menu start disappeared from the screen. So, now I could open only programs from the Windows Task Manager. Please, help me find the way out of this situation. Thank you in advance.

    Ivan

You see only your background image and the wallpaper?
Miss all your desktop icons and you don't see the taskbar at the bottom of the screen or are simply missing icons and you can see the taskbar at the bottom?
Check the simple things first.  Right-click on an open space on your desktop, choose Arrange icons by and make sure the option show desktop icons has a check mark next to it.  This will work if you don't miss you that the desktop icons, but still see the Start button and the taskbar.
If only you can see your wallpaper background picture and don't see the desktop icons and no start button or taskbar, this means that the explorer.exe program does not run (and it must be running) or the explorer.exe program are usually afflicted.  A good way to think about at the moment, it is that the process explorer.exe "is" your desktop.
If this is the case, the malicious software in general is preparing.
What is your system brand and model?
What is your version of XP and the Service Pack?
You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?
Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..
Sometimes your anti malware program to quarantine (and indeed remove) your file explorer.exe (or other critical files on the XP system) if it finds that the file is infected.  The file may really be infected, but you can know for sure and then reconsider your anti malware options.
First, you need to get your work desk, then you can solve your problem of potential malware.
Of your background image, press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager.
Look at the processes tab and if the process explorer.exe is not running, start it as follows:
In Task Manager, click file, new task, and in the Open box, enter:
    %windir%\explorer.exe
Click OK and see if get you your office.
If explorer.exe is already running in the processes tab, it is likely that the object of the affection and will need to be replaced (which is not difficult).
If you notice that the explorer.exe process is already running in the Task Manager, highlight the explorer.exe process, and then click end process to stop and start a new explorer.exe process as described above.
If things look right now, your system is still not fixed, but it should be enough usable so now you can fix it.
I would start with these scans:
Perform scans for malware first, then these scans by operating clean, difficulty of problems:
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.
Please report back with information about your system and your results if you need additional assistance.

  • All the icons disappeared spontaneously (charging, home, folders, files exe in tabs, favicons)

I use the latest version of Firefox (as of 3 October 2014 impossible to verify what version because I don't know which button to press - see question) on Windows 8.1. I did not close the browser, but all of a sudden all THE icons disappeared. If I click on the blank spaces, functions will continue to operate (for example I can always close a tab), but I don't see what follows: Reload, Home, buttons etc. Bookmark folder icons; No icons on the settings tab; Exe in the upper right corner of the tabs; Favicons.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

    • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe
  • My computer when it is turned on will not past the blue screen of Windows Vista, not able to see the start with all the icons page

Had to restart the computer and turned on will not go beyond Windows Vista of the screen blue, not able to see the start with all the icons page

    Restore point:

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

CCleaner is very useful to get rid of temporary files, you can get it here: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner you can use it to clean your temporary files, but DO NOT use registry cleaning works, registry cleaning is mainly a useless effort that can cause more harm than good.

  • After backup files and restoring Windows XP, I can't open the files backed up.

After backup files and restoring Windows XP, I can't open the files backed up. The files are password on a user account. I know the password. But the message received when you try to open them is: access is denied. Drag / drop the files in 'Shared files' result in the same message. I know that the files exist, because when I open backup and browse for them, they are displayed. Is there a method to open? I have Windows XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3 update. I tried to back up the files with backup of backup, but it does not work.

Every thing seems to have returned to normal, but when I restarted my computer all the icons on my desktop and all programs in the start menu disappeared, and yet, all programs are always in: Control Panel > add/REMOVE programs.   I can still connect to the internet by going to-Start > my computer > view > go to the desktop. How to get back all the icons on my desktop. I tried a click right, but in vain. I also ran a scan complete antivirus. any help would be appreciated.

Thank you Joel S. Before I could put your advice into practice a friend recommended a friend who advised me to do a system restore, which he said he would be happy to do it for me. So look like an easy option, I agreed. It seems to have solved the problem (fingers crossed), but now it seems that I need to format the hard drive. If you have any tips on formatting hard drive I'm all ears. Thank you Owen

Nikon D7100, I cannot download my RAW to Lightroom files! I have read all the post and started with Lightroom 3.6 4.4, Lightroom 2015 then Lightroom 5.7 update. Nothing helps!

The Nikon D7100 is supported from 4.4 LR on-site. So I have no idea why you have problems to import files NAVE of this camera or the card memory used in this device.

You use the Nikon software first to get images of camera or card to your hard drive? I read somewhere that the Nikon software does something for the NAVE of the files making them unreadable by LR.
