File/property permissions is messed up (just a file type, I know)

Hello.

I've been on send it a file by e-mail, but when opened file that contains, some files are invisible.  In fact all the files in that folder, that I edited recently, are invisible through Windows Explorer and is visible to FL Studio, the application that creates / uses of this type of file (and these files have a lock on them gold).
This seems to have started around the same time I had to reinstall Windows, but I don't know if they are related.  Another possibility: the type of file that has touched (file .flp for FL Studio music making app), installation, last of the latest version of FL Studio, it asks if you want the application to be available for all users or current user. This time on a whim, I chose "all users" (normally I do 'current user').  Maybe this caused a conflict?
I asked someone about it and they gave me a link to a possible solution [http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/17117/remove-the-lock-icon-from-a-folder-in-windows-7/], but it has suggested a new user (but I already have user).  Overall, it seems that I have more things listed in "group or user names: ' under the Security tab that I had (not that I really know):
CREATOR OWNER
SYSTEM
Administrators (PC name\Administrators)
User (PC name\Users)
TrustedInstaller
Should I have many groups/users?  When you click on edit to the above list, all have full control, except for CREATOR OWNER (only special permissions is ticked) and TrustedInstaller (which only display the contents of the folder and special permissions checked).  If I try to make changes, they seem not just to 'take' or I get an error popup that says I can't do that.  Fortunately, I have created a restore point before this misadventure.
Trying to figure things out, the record (which includes the invisible files) repeatedly returns to read-only, even though I still haven't the folder or its contents, read-only.
It's really frustrating.   I need to get a file to someone; I understand the need for security, but when it gets in the way (especially when I completely trust anyone with access to this computer), the work can grind stop unnecessarily.
Please someone help, a solution that does not require me reinstall Windows!  :-)
I use Microsoft Security Essentials (circulate regularly, auto-update)
Thank you!
Andy

  • Icons of file type for the .docx files are incorrect

    I started with a version of Microsoft Excel and Word Starter on my computer, but once I started University, I had to install a trial version of Office Professional. Since I installed the trial version and then uninstalled the starter version, my icons of file type for the .docx files resemble white pieces of paper. However, all other types of files shows an icon of Microsoft Word, such as for example .rtf files. Only the .docx icons are incorrect on the hard drive of the computer and to a flash drive I carry school (icons are correct on the flash drive on the school computers).

    I noticed several instances of this question which arises and have tried the following:

    (1) I gone through Control Panel and repair of Microsoft Office Professional 2010 (and restarted the computer).
    (2) I tried to check the default program for the .docx file type and he was placed to Microsoft Word. I have reset WordPad and return to the floor, but that did not always help.
    (3) I tried the command refresh of Cache icon through the Run dialog box.
    4) went through the registry to check the icon for docxfiletype, but my problem with this is that the icon for Microsoft Word is not a default system icon.
    I don't know what else I could try to fix this and I really should leave him alone because my files opens properly, but I think it's very boring and for some reason any he just in general that bothers me.

  • Check the file type after JavaScript File.openDialog ()...

    So I am on Mac OS and want my script obviously cancel on the bottle of 'Cancel', but also check if the selected file is a PDF file. I had some success with the code below, but some PDF, I select get cancelled with this script. While they inspected, the FilePath.type property returns "?" for some PDF files - anyone know why?

    var myFilePath = File.openDialog("Please choose a PDF file...", undefined, false);
    if((myFilePath == "") || (myFilePath == null)){
        exit();
    }
    else if(myFilePath.type != "PDF "){
        alert("Please choose a PDF file!") ;
        exit();
    }

    I'm quite new to scripting. Thank you!

    On Windows, all you can do is provide a file extension (the well-known "*.") PDF filter"), and it is wise to always add the catch-all" *. " ' * ' to 'all files '. In this way, a user can select a file, even if she has a bad job (and in this case, it is the responsibility of the user to ensure that the file is of the type expected nonetheless).

    Under OSX, there are two options:

    1. the file has the correct ' Creator/Type' metadata; and/or

    2. the file has the correct file extension.

    Historically, focused on the Macintosh OS used option #1 and software should not look at the actual file names. However, who soon became unfeasible when people tried to share files between Mac and (almost all) other systems. That lead to various tools to "attribute" Data Type/Creator of known file extensions, so they can be opened with the right software on Mac. Also the reverse that's happened; saving a file "without extension" on a Mac was not a problem, but to open it in Windows, you often had to add the right extension.

    So, somewhere around one or two versions of the system there, Apple has decided to return to the old, trust "File Extension." But OSX still records the Type/Creator metadata for files created on your Mac. Control of the 'type' should work then - but the problem is, what happens if you got your file also? The extension may be correct, but if she has any type of file, your script won't see it.

    Fortunately, the open a Mac OS x file dialogue box allows some pretty wicked customizations. Never forget a file filter, you can run a custom function which decides for each separate file and the folder should be adjustable or not. The function has access to all the file attributes. You can go up to check the name of the file and dismiss all files that contain a 'q', or the files are read-only, or that are smaller than 1 KB.

    Check out this piece of code (I wrote it myself, but various tips and tricks have been played on this same forum):

    if (File.fs == "Windows")
        pdfFile = Folder.myDocuments.openDlg( 'Load PDF document', "Adobe PDF:*.pdf,All files:*.*", false);
    else
        pdfFile = Folder.myDocuments.openDlg( 'Load PDF document', function(file) { return file instanceof Folder || (!(file.hidden) && (file.name.match(/\.pdf$/i) || file.type == "PDF ")); }, false );

  • I set firefox to open a file type (.) SGF) w / a program, but it doesn't, so I put it to save/apply and no work option, it always opens file link in a new tab.

    I went into Options and set the. SGF with Smartgo open file. He refuses to do. Clicking on a link to one. SGF file simply open the file as a text in a new tab.

    Given that it did not work, I tried to get firefox to download instead, because then I can open it using the window file type associations. It will not download the file, unless I actually do a right-click and save-as in the link.

    It is tedious when displaying a lot of these files. I even put it to wonder after seeing the download option did not work. He don't ask me. What happens here?

    Also, I use firefox 23

    EDIT: It seems to be the specific Web site. Some sites will allow me the option to open it in Smartgo, others just it open in a tab in the form of text. What is causing this gap and can it be overcome thanks to the browser settings?

    A sample Web site to highlight the issue is:

    Somehow all my folders of changed files option.  Instead of the folder when you click it, it opens the search.

    I know where and what to change, just do not know how.  Under Tools > folder options > file types, I select "files" and click "Advanced".  Of course, it says 'find '.  I click on 'new' under 'action', I type 'open', but what should I put under "Application used to perform action:"?  It won't let me not leave the field empty.  When I looked to see how it was done in 'file', 'edit' is gray.  I tried to look on other computers, but everyone has Vista, Vista doesn't even have a tab "file type" under folder options and I couldn't find it anywhere else.

    Even if you don't know the answer, if you could look to see what it says on your computer and let me know.  Like I said could not find on Vista, I am running XP.

  • How can I add a php file type?

    I use windows xp. There was a file type "php" but used with 'Print Shop quick print' which I removed because of the conflict. I want the "php" that is used with "hyper text preprocessor. I tried just to add "php" as a new type of file, but without any criteria, I don't think that it is recognized.

    What do you do with your php files?  What application you want to use to handle (for example, modify) them? Normally, the php files are used by php on a web server engine. If you want to edit or create php files, you can use the Notepad Notepad ++or application such as Dreamweaver web development.

    Assuming that you have an application in mind that you want to use to open the php files, the best thing to do is:

    • Find a php file
    • Right-click on it and select open with > choose program
    • Locate the executable file of the application you want to use
    • Check the box "always use this program to open this type of file.
    • Click OK
  • In the control panel under Tools, folder, file types options, why are there items her don't have next to them?

    According to my question in the title above... Tab file types... Why is it (NO) next to audio CD, disc, DVD, and a little more such elements as the folder of file, folder and to allocate to the Protocol.

    Reason why I ask this is I just do a fresh install of Windows XP with SP2 and I installed SP3 after that on an old computer that was in need of a new facility. I continued to get the AutoPlay window I went to the CD and DVD players and set everything to TAKE NO ACTION. I wonder if I made a mistake by doing this. I was half way tempted to do the same for drive C, but I did not.  Is there something I can do to correct what I do that I should not have?

    Also, I noticed that my computer is really slow now and it was not before.

    The [NONE] you're referring to means that there are has file extensions associated with things such as Audio CDs, disks and DVDs.

    A "file extension" is the 3-(4-parfois) part of a file name that comes after the period character.  For example, in "Document.doc" file extension is doc.

    Made settings were - as you noted correctly - in the AutoPlay dialog box.  These settings determine what Windows does when a removable storage device is connected.  Depending on the type of multimedia content detected on the device, you can choose from a variety of "Manipulative Autoplay" to deal with this content.

    "Take no action" is not a bad default.

    If you want to change your mind, open my computer and right-click on the icon for a CD/DVD/USB device and select the tab "Autoplay".  You can choose from a variety of types of "content" and then choose which application should open.  For more flexibility, TweakUI--> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-xp or see

    Also, I noticed that my computer is really slow now and it was not before.

    A number of things could happen here.

    Have you installed all necessary drivers after you reinstalled Windows?

    Have you installed an antivirus application before connecting to the Internet?

    Have you applied all post-sp3 Windows critical updates before you begin to surf the Internet?

    Did you uninstall the trial versions of software antivirus which have been replaced (unless your new Windows installation was a "clean install")?

  • Another PC, same software, missing file Type Options

    I just switched to another PC in my office and copied on Microsoft Photo Editor from my previous machine.  On this machine, I regularly used this software to open it. PCX files.  On this machine, the Photo editing software does not recognize. PCX as a file type.  Is there something I can do for that change?  This is the same version of the software, so I don't understand why this is happening.

    P.S. I discovered other programs that will be open. PCX files, but I can't find them almost as easy to use.

    It seems that the Photo Editor is an integral part of earlier versions of Microsoft Office (it disappeared in more recent versions).  According to the following articles, it seems that it takes a graphic filter 'PC Paintbrush' to work with the format PCX with the Office Suite.  Photo Editor may require this as well...

    I went into the directory of downloads in the BACK, the used command DIR / X to find out the name of the file.

    The controls were as follows,

    CD C:\users\my name\downloads

    dir / x (to find the full file name,)

    del (to remove the file)

    I could probably use alternative command

    del *. *.
