Here is a step by step, in case you need it, but I think that you have already deployed it

  • How to speed up the transfer of files to and from data warehouses ESXi

    Hi people!

Our company has a large number of

VMware ESXi 3.5 and 4.0 servers. (Note: this is not the free ESXi, the)

Paid ESX Server.) They generally work very well for us. The only area of

problem I have is to transfer files to and from data warehouses on

    the machines.

Because we do not have the ESX Server paid, I can't

use vMotion or VirtualCenter to transfer virtual machines from one location

to the other. So, if I need to move a virtual machine to a different host,

the only solution I have is to download the VM

paste them into the new data store, using the vSphere Client. The problem

with this is that I found it is extremely slow. This may take

    Does anyone know of one

  • updated images of VMware Server to use in ESXI server

    Hello

I just have a lot of virtual machines that has been configured and used by vmware server 1. Now, I'll use ESXI server, when I downloaded the images to the esxi server and tried to run, I had a mistake in VMDK. Is it possible for me to change VMDK and use these old images or I need to reconstruct images from scracth. also, is there any availbale tool to update my old images to use ESXI?

    Thank you

ESXi does not support the scattered disk format used by VMware Server by default. What you can do is to follow the recommendations of weinstein5and use VMware Converter or convert the hard file in a supported format (zeroedthick, eagerzeroedthick or thin) using the vmkfstools in ESXi command line tool.

Assuming that the virtual disk has no snapshots, you can follow these steps in order to maintain the virtual disk file name.

    • create a 'old' subfolder in the folder of the VM on the ESXi host and move the hard files in this folder
    • Basic virtual machine folder run for example vmksftools old-i /hard-d thin vmname.vmdk
    • If the virtual machine lights without problem, you can remove the "old" subdirectory

  • How can I add iso images to an ESXi server install?

I installed most recently of ESXi server and can not get the CD to work, so I would try to build ISOs of the operating system images.  I have two data warehouses, but I don't know how to get ISO images on one of the data stores.  Can someone point me in the right direction here & gt;  My search came up pretty empty.

    Thank you

Then ESXi works OK and you want to copy ISO to host images?  If so, in the VI client, right-click on the data store and select Browse the data store.  One of the icons will allow you to transfer files from your PC to the data store.  You can change the settings of the virtual machine to have the CD uses an ISO data store (be sure to check the option "connect to food on '.)

  • Too many files VMDK

    Hi all

I have a server with a strange problem that I need help with.  This is a security camera server that keeps locked up due to a hard drive problem.  We have a data reader assigned as drive F, and from time to time, it goes to a point that the server crashes.  When troubleshooting, I found that the drive F is not available.  The quick fix is for me to just delete this player and add another.  Problem now is that there is a flat file and 4 or trust of the delta files on a drive that is no longer there. I put the new disk in another data store. There is also a file VMDK has a curious name... camera - ctk.vmdk.  There is no hard drive with this name.   They are eliminated without any problem or is there a specific way to go about getting rid of them?

If the flat file and delta is no longer needed, you can certainly delete. However, if you are not 100% sure, it might be a good idea to move the files to a temporary/new directory to see if everything continues to work as expected and then - remove them at a later date. The -ctk.vmdk file is the file that is used for the modified block (CBT), follow-up. One of these files exist for each virtual disk where CBT is activated. You can remove this file if the associated virtual disk no longer exists.

  • Copy of complete site. I have a Web site. I would copy the entire site (complete with images) to another directory with a different name. Then, transfer to another hosting server. All ideas

Copy of complete site. I have a Web site. I would copy the entire site (complete with images) to another directory with a different name. Then, transfer to another hosting server. Any ideas?

Not sure that you need a different directory.

If you are working on a local computer, create a new site with all the same settings for local files and change the remote server settings to match the second server.

This ensures you that there is no difference between the two websites.

You won't be able to go in ESXi. See http://communities.vmware.com/people/vmroyale/blog/2010/12/29/how-to-install-vendor-updates-on-server-hardware-running-esxi for a set of instructions, that you can use.

  • Export the VM of ESXi to 'not connected' ESXi Server using converter

    Hi all

Sorry for the newbie question - I've seen a lot of messages about the export of a machine virtual workstation or player, etc, but I couldn't find one for my purpose.

We need to export a virtual machine that was created on a server ESXi Server ESXi in another place that has no network connectivity between them using the converter v 4.01 Standalone (?). The idea is the following: export image, copy the files on USB key, send to a remote site, they will import image on their server ESXi (same version).

What is the best way for me to do using the converter?  I thought that I could simply select the VMWare Infrastructure Server as a destination, but that seems to be an option only if you have the remote a plugged into the network.

Does anyone have suggestions as to the export type that may possibly be more coherent than the others? That is to say; export as "vmware workstation or another vmware virtual machine" say vs "virtual appliance"?  Are just as reliable a prospect of import export and then?

    Thanks in advance!

    D

If the two ESXi is the same version that you can do is go to the browser data store and download all the VMS in the USB drive and then go to Site 2 and upload is via the browser of data store. Browser for the .vmx and save the virtual machine.

If you still want to use vmware converter to format of workstation converter so that the destination can be selected as USB key, then a workstation to vmware infrastructure in Site 2.

Sit behind your firewall router esxi, transfer 443 to esxi management IP and ensure that management network vmkernel has the internal IP address of router as its default gateway.

    Hello

I'm having a problem importing a virtual machine into the ESXi server. I downloaded the folder with the VM and then after the download, I opened the folder in the data store, click on the .vmx file, add to the inventory and then when I go to power on the virtual machine, you receive an error.

Can someone tell me what Idid hurt, actually there at - it a guide step by step somewhere?

    Thank you

for me, I like to use the converter, it works and takes care to ensure that all parts of the VM needrf are transferred into your ESX (i) environment.

Download VMware Converter, install and convert machine.   Source type is another virtual machine of VMware or VMware Workstation.  Type of destination will be the virtual machine VMware Infrastructure.

  • Advice on the ESXi server conversion

Hi all - I have a project, I work on the weekend and hoped comments before you start. I have a HP Xeon bicoeur recently purchased Windows Server 2003 running server is installed directly on the hardware (no virtualization yet). I want to convert the VMWare ESXi 4.0 running server and run the same operating system on this material. Here's the tricky part. I want to run ESXi on the same computer, Windows Server running on right now. I understand that VMWare converter exists for this, and it would be no problem I got a 2nd ESXi Server I could use as the destination for the new virtual machine running. But I have only 1 server. And the converter interface looks like it requires a host ESXi to connect to, when converting from one physical machine to a virtual machine. (please, correct me if I'm wrong)

My plan to achieve this is:

    1. temporarily install ESXi on another computer

    2. use VMWare workstation to converter to convert the physical operating system to a virtual machine running on the ESXi host temp

    3. carefully test the new virtual machine!

    4. download files of the virtual machine to the host temp to converter with vSphere client workstation

    5. clean the hard disks on HP Server, install ESXi

    6. download VM files on HP Server with vSphere client

    7. I hope that new start VM brilliant without problem

8 go back home and get some sleep!

If anyone has any input on this point, known pitfalls to avoid, or how to go faster, please let me know!

To make it a little easier (you save setting up ESXi twice) just to use VMware workstation and VMware converter (even just an eval version will do). Then...

    1. install VMware workstation and VMware converter on a decent existing computer (that has enough cpu/ram to support the windows server).

    2. use the windows VMware converter for P2V server in VMware workstation.

    3. test the virtual windows server 2003 works correctly

4 install ESXi on HP Server and configure it.

5 use the converter once more to shoot on the virtual machine in the front of the workstation in an ESXi virtual machine format hardware version 7.

  • Installation server ESXi 4.0 to ESXi Server 4.0 Update 1

"Upgrade package of ESXi Server 4.0 to ESXi Server 4.0 Update 1.

    Using the download listed above:

What is the best practice for the installation/upgrade to update 1?  Is this possible via the host update utility 4.0?  And if so, how should we do about this process?

    Thanks in advance, TAndrist

You should not manually download any file at all.  The host update utility does all that for you.

Open the utility, add the host ESX (note a hack to run on Win7 before publication U1).

Click on file, download patches for vmware.

Then click on "Scan for Patches" and enter credentials for the host to ESX

Once who did button changes to 'host patch', click on it, then install.

Make sure that all virtual machines are stopped everything first.

  • ESXi Server and the DMZ security

    Hello world

I currently have around 5 physical web servers sitting in a demilitarized zone. My plan is to convert all these web servers to virtual machines and host them on an ESXi server.

I would like to host the ESXi Server actually in the demilitarized zone, all the VMs on the ESXi box would be public facing anyway. Does anyone know of a good reason not to do from a security point of view.

I guess my main concern would be the area of ESXi being threaten. Of course, I would limit the traffic through the firewall rules.

I would like to know your opinion on this and if someone has done this before?
