  As you mentioned that you have not saved the files and programs, it is difficult to get back them. However, you can try to find the files/folders in "Windows.old" in the operating system drive. Follow the steps below to locate "Windows.old".

  1. press on "Windows key + X", click on "Windows Explorer".

  2. click on the operating system drive (for example: drive c :)))

  3. now open 'Windows .old"file. If you can't find the file.

  4. Type "Windows.old" in the search box at top right of the screen.

  5. now try to locate files and folders that you have deleted accidentally.

  Needless to say, cutting the current during the update process can cause all sorts of problems - many not even related to the update itself.  It is a common branching.

  Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.  I don't know if this will solve the problem, but it might.  It's worth a try (and it can be useful if there are other problems that you have not yet detected).  Whether or not it works, you will need to re - install the update (and this time won't turn off - LOL).

  If you still have the problem of validation after system restore, and then click Start / computer / system properties and check the bottom of the Activation section.  Your system always shows that it is enabled?  If this isn't the case, then reactivate.  To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation, but it's the same PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista.

• Way around being hung to one outlet during the update of Windows Vista Service Pack 2?

  I have a problem, I have a laptop Toshiba where AC internal adapter is broken, it has been for some time - but my buddy has also a Toshiba laptop computer, where I can just return for batteries between the two and this system has worked fine just now, the problem - I could do my Windows updates business as usual until Service Pack 2 for Vista, it will not allow the installation of the update because my laptop is on battery.  Is there a way to get around this?  I have of course no way to connect to food unless it is repaired, and at this point I just prefer to get a new laptop that money put into this one - I'm hoping somewhere someone has suggestions! :(  Help!  Thank you!

  Unfortunately, there is not another way. Your laptop must be powered by the sector during the update to avoid the laptop shut down due to lack of battery power.

• Svchost.exe causing 100% cpu usage during the update of windows, even when disconnected.

  I recently had to re - install windows xp on a new hard drive for replacement. My version of xp home edition, SP2 OEM installation disc. (This is ith group included IE6)

  Once installed and running, could access windows update.

  Read all the threads associated etc. and installed SP3, disc after downloading microsoft on another pc. Installed after three trys, first two caused various mistakes, but third attempt seems OK!

  I've also updated the IE6 to IE8, as some sites obviously did not work properly with the older browser.

  Now go do the automatic updates, or log for manual updates... BUT!

  During the process, my cpu fan comes on fast and permanently! The CPU usage is showing that 100%, pc slows to crawl, the mouse becomes slow etc.

  This has never happened before on this machine before you reinstall clean, he had already automatically updated to SP3 and went very well, it was some time ago, before the failure of hard drive, and it has never had this problem!

  Only since having to do a cleaning manual update and re - install.

  The culprit seems to be svchost.exe, once it is used by the update, running the cpu at 100% and continues to do so EVEN after stopping the service, until I manually stop with the Task Manager!

  Well I had a beer and a reflection and came to the conclusion, it must be 'order' in which I updated the clean installation of XP.

  Origin, I loaded the old OEM disc new hard disk, loaded the drivers etc, then stop at windows update for updated files.

  Who told me my old incompatible browser and suggested an upgrade.

  I downloaded and installed IE8... still no joy, reading the forums comments I downloaded and installed SP3... which SEEMED to work, BUT then all the hassle of cpu to 100% with the automatic update and updated manual on the windows don't update site!

  So I just gritted my teeth, formatted the drive, another OEM of XP Home Edition SP2 installation loaded the drivers, installed a copy saved to SP3 and after restarting, THEN installed a saved copy of IE8 and THEN trotted off the coast to the windows update site... low and behold, it the connection without problem, did a search, and required updates appeared on the screen without delay all 123 of them...! :)

  Did the updates, restarted and everything was fine, updates automatic in market and left the machine, after about 30 minutes appears the yellow shield, and it downloads a couple more update files without problem.

  All this time I followed the via the Task Manager CPU usage and the strange spike waited 100% apartment, it was on average from 5 to 20%!...so a great improvement has this effect, by simply changing the order of the updates installed from the original! SP3 IE before IE8.

  May not work for all have to do a clean install because of the HD failed, but its worked for me, and I am once more a "happy bunny!

  This problem may be caused for the following reasons:

  Conflicts of hardware/software.

  System files are corrupt.

  When you perform the System Restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

When you use Windows update (via the notification system, not through IE) there is no or almost no indication of traffic: 1: progress bar and the text indicator (xx % AA) only get updates 2-3 times during a 23 MB download. This is new behavior, it will display each percent) 2: Network Monitor in systray give no idea that there are 3 inbound: Manager tasks, graphical network traffic gives no blip by updating 4: Comodo Firewall Traffic indicator and the active connections see nothing. But the download of the update and is installed later. Basically, other than a flashing light hard drive, I have more idea if the download of an update works (for the first 10 minutes, then the progress bar is updated and past at 10/11% or something, to 34, etc.). • E5-571 news froze during the update of windows

  Hi, my 5 E5-571 days old froze during windows update last night, left on the screen to update from one day to the next, had not changed by the morning, had to close it using the manual key, lit a few hours later, still stuck on the same screen to update, but no progress on the update.

  I recommend you:

  Go to a command prompt:

  Start, all programs, accessories, command prompt.

  Right click on command prompt and select "Run as Administrator" http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/How-do-I-run-an-application-once-with-a-full-administrator-access-token > and run sfc/scannow http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833>

  Type exit (to close the elevated command prompt window)

  Reset

  See if that solves the problem.

  If not, run the update http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821system tool >

  Note As a general rule, the scan takes 15 minutes or less, but it can take longer on some computers.

  The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time.

  This behavior is expected.

  The scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.

  If the system update tool does not resolve the problem, you will need repair Windows.

• DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE during the update of Windows 8 to 8.1

  Hi all, I tried to upgrade from Windows 8 for Windows 8.1 but still get a DRIVER error message, OUT of STATE, and then the installation stops and goes back to Windows 8.   I have a the same problem, but resolved

  just update your driver from nvidia with the nvidia tool.

  Then the update will go.

• Windows 7 pc froze during the update of Windows, does not start

  Computer and installed the latest updates have frozen at "windows configuration, not met off the computer.  After 30 minutes computer turns off by itself.  When I restarted, computer 'start' but nothing on the screen.  After 30 minutes, the computer turns off again.

  I recommend you to restore system using a Windows 7 DVD.

  Here's how:
  To open the Options menu system recovery using a system repair disc or a Windows 7 installation disc
  If your system is damaged and cannot access the menu system on your computer Recovery Options, you can access it using the Windows 7 installation disc or a system repair disc previously.
  To use this method, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the disk.
  a. Insert the disc.
  b. restart your computer using the power button on the computer.
  c. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
  o If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer.
  d. choose your language settings, and then click Next.
  e. If you are using the Windows installation disc, click on repair your computer.
  f. Select the Windows installation you want to repair, and then click Next.
  g. in the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it and then choose the system restore and check.
  
   
  If we are able to boot to the desktop now, I would ask you install the updates one by one andcheck the update is at the origin of the conflict.

• Vista will not be stopped during the update of Windows (see details)

  Reference Dell XPS420, 4 MB of RAM, two 1 GB WD HD, Windows Vista Home Premium, updated with all updates important to Microsoft.

  When I tried to install the latest updates (24 November 2009) using update installs and closes down your Vista computer got as far as "Shutting Down", but does not yet - icon turns on the screen of teal'c circle (or whatever color that is) and there are some HD activity , but that's all. Vista (and the PC itself) was working fine up until this point.

  Step 2: Reset the Windows Update components

  You will need to maybe reset the Windows Update components, download the Microsoft fix - it from the link and run the wizard that automatically resets the windows update components, if it does not, I recommend that reset you manually update windows components from the link:
