Files duplicated in Windows Mail app

Recently, I noticed that I suddenly duplicates of files in Windows Mail on my RT Surface (but not in webmail, not in 2013 and not in my Windows Phone 8 of Outlook). At first, I had a "Deleted items" folder in addition to the "trash". Then I got a "sent items" and a "Sent" folder (I wonder what's next).

This problem did not appear anywhere, but in the Windows Mail application (I do not use this app on my laptop of Win8, since I have Office 2013 - but when you start the application, it also shows the same duplicates).
I don't know how to delete folders in the Windows Mail application, which would be a start. But despite this, the application should not make up new folders whenever he feels like it. It seems that nothing has changed in the settings for deleted items, junk mail, etc. Only records - with content (not sure where this content comes).
Any ideas of what I can do to get rid of these 'bonus' very boring files? They take up unnecessary space in the column of left-right/folder and makes it much more difficult to administer my emails.
I have the latest version of the Windows Mail application and all the available updates for Windows 8 (RT m Surface and 8 Pro on my laptop).

Hi guys, I had this problem too, but found that breaks to the right, settings, accounts, select the e-mail account, then scroll down for special folders and between items sent using the drop-down list box to receive/send, items deleted inbox/trash and junk email to the reception/spam box fixed my problems and removed duplicate records. I couldn't work on how to get rid of the extra project folder. It also fixed a problem for me when trying to move a deleted email from the Inbox of that E-mail seems to pass removed the folder, but would then go into the abyss and not the Inbox. I hope this helps. Joe.

  • 8.1 Windows Mail app cannot connect into account

I recently got my machine Windows 8.1 and when setting up account of my daughter and recover personal files of a history of the files, I created before the resumption, I tried for his mail to the top and do work. She has an Outlook.com account, which is also his user account, so it should just connect, but when I open the mail application, it wants me to sign it in on the Outlook.com account first. When I do that, he said 'you have already added this account. " When I cancel, it gives me four options, namely:

    • Outlook.com
    • Exchange
    • Google
    • View all in parameters

The only parameter that seems appropriate is Outlook.com option, but tales come back to me the same as before.

I uninstalled the mail app and reinstalled and I also removed him as long as the user and signed him in local with a different username then I connect him again with his Outlook account. Nothing has worked.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Moving the file documents in Windows Mail email messages?

My system crashed. Fortunately, I had my files backed up using Norton 360. I restored files, except my emails and contacts restored to a file in the folder my documents. How can I move them to this folder in Windows Mail?

Just for the heck of it, try this. (This works for EML files).

Right-click on a backup message and drag it to an e-mail from the window folder and select copy here. If it appears, you know what to do. If not, someone else will have to help out you.
  • How to remove and reset the Contacts folder / files in Vista Windows Mail

How can I delete the Contacts in Vista - and actually reset the folder so that windows treats the files ".contact" as - good contact and no text.

Because what was going on, I decided to try to start from scratch - I just copied all the files in the folder of contacts to a archive and deleted all the files in the contacts folder.

From Windows Mail - I am capable of was able to use the tool 'Add to contacts' and the Contact form (properties) dialog happens - but if I open the Contacts folder directly (Windows or Windows Mail 'button'), I get a window of the typical Explorer with a newlt created contact list (for example there are 6 in there now all created from Windows Mail) - if I try to open an existing contact - it opens in the Notepad - text - garbage.  (Same problem I had)

I've been setting up with a Contacts folder corrupted since I bought my desktop with Vista in 2008 - I think I looked into the question of import then and there is no function of CSV to import the contacts (that I could find) - and / or the inport corrupted the file - so when I open a file of contacts I get the text of the file - it opens in Notepad - and not a Contact form.

With more than 600 contacts in there, I didn't have to manually retype all data, but it's time to bite the bullet.

    Hello PaulJMoore,

    ·         Do you have just copied the contacts in archive and did not export them?

    ·         What is the extension of the contact files you copied?

You should try to reset the contacts folder.

    1. in Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder C:\Users\(user name) \Contacts.

    2. right click on an empty space in the main pane of the middle of the window and click Customize this folder.

    3. under the type of folder do you want, click the arrow next to the model list drop-down list.

    4. click on Contacts to select.

NOTE: Check apply also this template to all subfolders if you want to change all subfolders in the Contacts folder to the Contacts model as well.

    5. click on OK.

The contacts created with Windows Vista are in the format of .vlc. When you try to open them to the archived location where you saved, he would not be able to access Windows Mail to open the contacts.

First of all try to copy all the contacts in the Contacts folder on the \Contacts C:\Users\(user name folder location).

If this does not work, try to import all the contacts that you have saved to the location that is archived using the import option from the Windows Messaging.

You can read this article which will give you information on how to import contacts:

  • Windows Mail App on my new computer laptop

I got a new laptop with touch screen of Windows 8 (which I am learning to use), but when I click on the Mail app, he gave me my mail from my Google e-mail address. I also use another email from my ISP, Comcast, and I wanted that appears when I click on the mail app.  A few weeks ago I tried to add my Comcast email address to the mail app but I didn't have the right settings to put in, but it seems that set this e-mail account which does not work with the Comcast name.  Today, my husband, who is more computer than me, savvy said he had the right settings to configure my laptop computer on the new Comcast e-mail account. He was able to set up the e-mail account of Comcast properly by 'Add an account', however, I can't select to have my delivered email "as items arrive" only every 15 minutes or more. So I thought that maybe there because of a conflict with the first non-functioning email account Comcast because I can put this one to download the new email "as shipments arrive.  So I tried to delete the first Comcast, but I am unable to remove it without changing the settings from my PC because it says, ' this is a Microsoft account that allows you to log in to the Windows settings and synchronize with other computers of your. I don't want to screw up anything with my settings on the laptop.  So now I have 3 accounts is displayed when I click on 'settings' then 'accounts '. The first has a blue mail icon and white with the name of Comcast (it offers nothing for me), the latter also named Comcast as my husband put up and running but won't allow me to get mail 'as shipments arrive', with a black envelope icon and others with the Gmail icon which also offers a mail to me and that will allow me to download new mail 'as shipments arrive.

I can't get email that shipments arrive on my Gmail account.  Is there anyway that I can delete the email account that does not have Comcast? Or is it possible to add parameters to the first Comcast account so that one works and one delete my husband added (but it's the only Comcast that works so I hesitate to do).  Please explain in simple terms that I will have to just fix myself. I really appreciate any help you can give me.

It worked! And so simple! Thank you very much for your help!

  • 8.1 Windows mail app - single mailbox for multiple accounts as on Windows phone?

I have an outlook.com account and a microsoft exchange account - windows Phone I can combine the mailboxes of these accounts. I can not figure out how to do it on Windows 8 mail and have to check both and constantly move from one to the other, which is more disruptive as it sounds. Can I view a single mailbox for both accounts in Windows mail 8.1, similar to how I'm currently doing it in Windows Phone 8.0? I must warn you that any response in addition to 'Yes' is followed with a request for an explanation.

    Hi Mathenge,

Unfortunately, no.  With the Mail application on Windows 8.1, you can have all your email from the Outlook.com account, Gmail, Yahoo! and Exchange in a single application, but not as a unique mailbox.

You can check out this tutorial and understand the full operation of Windows Mail on Windows 8.1 application

  • Cannot send/receive mail in the Windows Mail app on my laptop only

I can't send or receive emails in Windows 8 on my laptop as he repeats to me in the upper right: "'* address email is removed from the privacy * is not available" (where xxx is my name). " I also have the Hotmail app on my iPhone and Android phone and they both signed and receive mail fine. I can even use my SkyDrive app very well on my laptop. Only the mail is affected.

I rebooted to see if something had to be refreshed, but it made no difference. Anyone has an idea why this error and the inability to send/receive mail my mail?

    Hello

Thank you very much for answering. I managed to settle the question, not that I know what it is. This is the only laptop among the many features that I sync with mail Outlook.com. I ended up going in the settings of the Mail application, off 'Synch Mail' and then I went back in the settings and turned on Synch Mail.

Email stuck in my Outbox sent immediately and new messages have arrived. FIX :-)

Some people do not like the Windows Mail application (it may not meet their most demanding needs), but I like it. I rarely use my MS Outlook more as it seems very small and crowded, by comparison. I love getting the full screen on my laptop to see what I just want to see, without toolbars and taskbars fly screen real estate.

Sorry for the rant and thanks again for the reply.

    Best regards
    Brian.

  • File deleted from Windows Mail

I accidentally deleted a folder this morning & have been unable to locate it in the trash.  Help please!

There is a good reason to uncheck the option empty elements removed when closing.

Try Recuva. Or this tool has a 30 day free trial.

  • How do I change Windows mail app to show all the email

The screen displays a small bar on the left, right, with a list of folders. then the rest of the screen is split between a list of senders and email that I click. This means that I can't actually read the e-mail because it is wider than half the screen. It's annoying bloody repulses me with this shit. How closer senders list so I can read emails without having to open the mail in a separate window. One who sets this parameter was a jerk

    Thank you

    Hi Natalieme,

Welcome to the Microsoft community. According to the description, it seems that you want to display email on a full page in Windows 8 mail application.

I'm sorry to inform you that it is the type of display available in Windows 8 mail by design application and cannot be changed or adjusted. To know the parameters in Windows 8 mail application, you can check out the link below:

  • How do you get the e-mail links to use outlook instead of the windows mail app?

I have Outlook (part of office 365) and Windows 8 - but when I click on any 'email' link it uses windows Messaging. In older versions, it would bring the outlook dialog.  Is it possible to change this?

Because you have Outlook, I suppose you want to do all the stuff "e-mail associated" with Outlook.  If so:

    • Go to the start screen
    • Start typing "Default programs" without the quotes
    • Select "Default programs" when it comes to the top
    • Select "Set your default programs"
    • Search for "Outlook (office computer)" in the list on the left
    • Select "Set this program as default"

If for some reason the last step does not work, you can try to replace this step with these:

    • Select "Choose default program"
    • Place a check next to "MAILTO URL: mailto" and save it
  • Cannot open attachments on windows mail files.

It's very similar problems as hthrrnd question on 24 June 2013. For some reason I can't open all attachments on the files in my windows mail.

This just started yesterday (August 5), I tried a system restore but I can't do what he is unable to perform the restore.

The version of IE is Vista Home

Can you help me with some of the other instructions.

    1: how to run WMUtil

2: How can I deactivate AVG

    3: How do I restart

    Thank you

    John Gifford

You are is Windows Vista Home version. Open Internet Explorer and click Help | Everything. You get the error message is a known problem with IE8, although I thought that was patched.

1: Download the zip file. Right-click | Extract all. Click on the result and run it. You will see buttons for compact and repair the database.

2: click the icon in the Notification area to open the program. You will need to look around, after that, as I'm not familiar with the details about moy.

3: click Start, and then stop. When the computer is turned off completely, press the power button to restart.
