Find the optical drive data cable (Proliant N40L)

Proliant N40L is provided with a data cable to the DVD player that I need to install my system? As far as I know, mine is not.  I consulted the slot in DVD player and found the power wire, but no cable (IDE motherboard) data.

If I buy one, where is a good place to find a?

Hello

Proliant N40L does not use the EIDE interface.

It uses the standard SATA. When you buy a SATA DVD to install, buy a SATA cable at the same time. They are inexpensive.

  • HP Pavilion 15-e073ca: 2nd HARD drive cart, replace the optical drive for HP Pavilion e073ca 15 Notebook PC & Windows 10

    Hello!

I intend to add an SSD in my two years 15-e073ca HP Pavilion Notebook PC. I found some sites that I can remove the optical drive and put a second drive using a caddy adapter in the optical drive Bay. I found that some people on the forum did it successfully, but nothing on my PC model. I want to know if he could work with my product.

In other words, there is my plan:

1 remove the real disk HDD hard bay and replace it with the new SSD.

    2. remove the optical drive and replace it with the adapter caddy containing my old HDD.

    3. do a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD, using a recovery USB stick made with my system Windows 10 real (which has been updated from Windows 8.1).

I plan to purchase the following parts:

    1 - a HDD / SSD cart adapter for HP Pavilion 15 (model OBHD9-SATA-SATA-BU9), of NewmodeUS (http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=583)

    2 - a SSD 128 GB (article SDSSDHP - 128G), SanDisk (http://www.sandisk.com/products/ssd/sata/ultra-plus/?capacity=128gb)

I have a few questions before I buy parts:

1 - the two drives (my old HDD and the new SSD) are recognized by the motherboard / BIOS and the operating system (Windows, 10)? Is there a limit to a unique HARD/SSD disk drive on the computer?

2 - the height of the SSD is 7mm, and it seems that my old HDD is 9.5 mm in height (model WDC WD10JPVT-60A1YT0). It would cause no problem (I need to add spacers)?

3 - these parts work together and with my computer (size, compatibility)? You can expect any problems with this upgrade?

4 - clean install Windows 10 quote, because I intend to install it on a different drive than the one I used to create the key USB recovery flash? I have never done a clean install of Windows before.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

    Haghe

Your plan is perfect. The SSD to will of 7 mm that always come back fine it just will be lower in the caddy. The holes and SATA connections are in the same place as a hard drive of 9.5 mm. You can use a spacer (many SSD include one in the box) but not really necessary.

Installing SSD for Windows 10 the way you expect is not really "own", that he will again introduce files and programs, in my opinion and certainly drivers. Whatever it is, it works perfectly and activates the old installation has been enabled.

The hard disk in the optical adapter will not be bootable and will transfer the data a bit slower than a drive in the main compartment, but will still be usable for most cases. If you need fast input/output like Photoshop or video editing move the job file to the first SSD. Alternatively, you may wish to consider documents and photos and other migration on the HARD drive to keep the 128 GB SSD to fill. You can right-click on these files and select 'place' and move them. After the back if you need some help with that.

    Enjoy.

  • Dell Vostro 430 sometimes breaks down and does not find the hard drive in the bios

So I have this old - ish Dell Vostro 430, intel cpu, windows 7 hard disk sata 250 GB, 4 GB of ram.

Update BIOS to the latest version 2.4.0

In certain exceptional circumstances, this PC sometimes crashes in windows, it is restarted, and then when he comes back it does not find the hard drive as a gift. He is not seen in the bios and does not start.

To fix, I have to unplug the power cable, wait a few seconds, plug in, reboot the computer and it starts normally, load windows and everything.

So far, I have tried to paginate on another hard disk, reinstall the Windows operating system from scratch, and same thing happens from time to time.

It is difficult to find the cause of the problem, because this happens very rarely.

Sometimes, when the pc is turned on for the first time in the morning, the hard drive is not found by the bios and we reappear at the same trick (disconnect the power cable) to take him back.

When it crashes when using inside Windows, it seems that the reason is the computer can't find the hard drive.

Such computer is out of warranty.

It would be nice to just throw this computer because it is still fine for the work it has to do, + I have Windows and Office OEM license on it, as well as many other software that I have to reinstall etc.etc.

No idea what I could troubleshoot?

Maybe change the motherboard? How can I buy a new motherboard for an out of warranty Dell?

While possibly keeping all the OEM licenses (Windows 7 and Office 2007).

The CURIOUS reader is fixed with a screw at the bottom of the unit. Then, turn the computer over and remove one screw an optical disk drive.
The second screw is hidden under the keyboard. That's why this screw must be removed also. And then disconnect you should be able to pull-out of the optical drive.

  • put the HARD drive in the optical drive stock

    Hi all

I'm sorry if this is redundant, but I couldn't find the answer to any where or through telephone Support from Lenovo.

I received the W530 with stock 500 GB HARD drive, but I want to replace it with the Pro of 840 Samsung SSD and put the HARD drive in the optical drive. I just restore the image from HARD disc for my SSD orginal (now in the original HARD drive box).

At first I thought that I just leave the HARD drive in the original Bay and use the optical drive for the SSD, but since I use the SSD for the OS, and I want to use the DVD player sometimes, I thought I should put the SSD in original HDD bay and the HARD disk in the optical drive.

I'm sure I've read that a lot of people did it with success, but I do not know much about computers and have never done nothing wise hardwear. I tried to put the HARD drive in the caddy Newmode U.S. optical drive, but it wouldn't fit (the screw on the caddy heads are too big). I think it's because the HARD drive still has the metal casing on it. I am worried, however, that if I remove the caddy, it voids my warranty, and above all, I am wanting to make sure it is the correct and safe way to the stock HARD drive in the optical drive.

I put the rails HARD original on the SSD drive rubber because it is in which Bay but you have no other rails to the HARD drive in the case of the optical drive, and I don't even think he would fit in.

So, it's OK to remove the carriage on the stock of HARD drive and put it in the optical drive without any kind of rails or protection (but attach it to the optical drive with the supplied screws caddy)? I think that's what I have to do anyway with the SSd, if she had to go into the optical drive.

I am also an upgrade of RAM, but the keyboard under the bottom access RAM screw is stripped, so I can't remove the original RAM (it is under keyboard) and use the optimal 0 and DIMM slot installation 1. Any ideas?

Thanks for your time, and once again, sorry if this is very basic.

Change hard drives and memory do not void the warranty.

The DSS must be installed exactly as the original HARD drive was, with rails caddy and rubber.

The HARD drive in DVD case must be inserted with the 4 screws with the caddy, nothing else.

To remove the stripped screw, you must use the small (jeweller preference) needle clamp with extreme caution, or slowly drop the screw head to create a new location. The second option is more dangerous because it produces small deposits of metal. If you can't do it yourself, ajeweller could do this easily for you.

    Good luck!

  • Can I replace the optical drive of the ENVY 15 t-k000 with a hard drive?

    Hello!!

    I just got the HP ENVY 15 t-k000 http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/G0T95AV?HP-ENVY-15t

Can I replace the optical drive with an SSD (for example, Seagate 600 240 G)? Thank you!

I saw there are several videos helping to remove the top cover and replace the optical drive. But it does not expressly say that the optical drive can be replaced by a hard drive.

    Thank you very much!

    Best,

    siriusblackp

Yes you can. Here's the part you have to do with. Just remove the optical drive, add a hard disk in one of these adapters and replace it for the optical drive:

    https://www.jacobsparts.com/items/HDDBAY-02/

You may also need to swap the façade of the old optical disc to make the installation of good look.

I wouldn't use this for one SSD. An SSD belonged to the main disk space to enjoy the speed. The drive into the optical drive adapter will not be bootable and it will be not given quite as fast as the main hard drive transfer speeds. So if you have a drive in this card, a big (1 TB) and slow (5400 RPM) drive would be preferable. It will be purely for storage and it is still fast enough to see the video of for example but if you are doing video editing I would try not to edit videos from the optical drive Bay. Move them to the fastest reader first.

  • Vista 64 Bit Home Premium does not start when a disc is in the optical drive

I tried to understand this for a long time, but I thought I might as well ask for help.  I use Vista 64 - bit Home Edition Premium and the problem I have is that I cannot restart my machine if a disc is in the optical drive. Specifically, if I have a DVD or Bluray disc in the optical drive (IE a BD - ROM drive). When I restart my computer and a disk is present, the startup process is going past the initial windows screen, but that's how far it goes. My desktop (I don't have a password to connect). Initially, I thought it was a matter of priority to boot but the boot process starts from the hard drive but stops at half way through. Then, I went into the BIOS and removed the optical drive completely from the boot priority list.  But there is no change in behavior. The process stops with the only thing visible on the splash screen is a black screen and the hard drive light flashes and goes out from time to time.  I use this computer as my Home Theater PC and sometimes I have to restart my machine when a movie DVD or a Bluray movie is in the optical drive. I would appreciate any response that can help me solve this problem...

    Thanks in advance...

There may be something wrong with the files on your hard disk.  We will try to update to see if it helps:

Do a startup repair, boot from the disk Installation of Windows Vista genuine (or one that you can borrow from someone) or a recovery disc.  Here is the procedure: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html.  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

If you do not have a floppy disk, you can make a bootable recovery disk by using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD.

If this does not resolve the problem, try the following:

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps (I believe you need a disc for Installation of Vista to do that, even if some Installtion OEM disc might work, but probably not all the recovery discs).

    1. put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

    2. press a key when you are prompted.

    3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

    4. click on repair your computer.

    5. click on the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

    6. in the System Recovery Options dialog box, click command prompt.

    7. type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.

Note If rebuilding the BCD does not resolve the startup problem, you can export and delete the BCD, and then run this option again. In doing so, you ensure that the BCD is completely rebuilt. To do this, type the following commands at the command prompt Windows RE:

    ·        bcdedit/export C:\BCD_Backup

    ·        c:

    ·        Boot CD

    ·        BCD attrib s h - r

    ·        Ren c:\boot\bcd BCD.old

    Bootrec /RebuildBcd

If this does not work, or if you do not have the disk, try EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 and see if that works and does everything well.  Make sure what you are doing or you could mess up your boot files and you'd be in a lot of trouble.

I don't know if the problem is even caused by startup files (but it is possible if it is not the BIOS), but you'd better check and if the procedures are followed to the letter as stated there is no harm in trying.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • Mac OS 10.5 Hello cannot find the printer driver for P1606dn connected via a wired network.

I tried to connect my HP Laserjet Pro P1606dn to my PowerMac G5 running Mac OS 10.5.8.  I have connected the priner to my LAN via the Ethernet cables and Switch 8 port NetGear.  I then properly installed printer driver from the CD provided on the Mac and went into system preferences / Print & Fax to add the printer to the list of the connected printers.  Click on the button «+»  The HP P106dn was listed in the table (kind = Hello).

I chose this entry in the table, and the dialog box immediately went into action: the pullodwn "to Print using" listed the message 'Please select a printer or driver model' greyed and a spinning wheel called 'Search for new drivers' appeared underneath.  The dialog box search but never find the printer driver (I waited for 20 minutes without success).  I installed some other HP printers in this way on this machine with no problems, for example, HP Color Laserjet 2605dn.  Why this method does not work with this printer?

I was able to connect to this printer with other (Intel) Macs in my house through this arrangement of LAN.  Is the printer driver for the Intel Macs only?

I disconnected the printer from the local network and connected directly to my Mac with a USB cable.  The same process, and I was able to connect to this printer.  Successfully print a document page.  Although it gives me a work-around for Mac G5, I need to share this printer with other Macs in my household.

I went on the HP download site and downloaded the latest driver for this printer, re-installed the printer driver on Mac and repeat the steps for the arrangement of LAN (above) complete the connection via the Print & Fax dialog box.  The result was the same: spinning wheel looking for a printer driver are not.

I don't know what else to do, or why this facility will not work.  I would much appreciate it if someone could give an explanation for this or any suggestions as to what can be done?

    Ed

I'm sorry to get back to you on this so late.  I was OOT Sunday all day.

Ok. So, here is what happened.  As I mentioned at the end of my last post, I was in the process of resetting my printing system, repair disk permissions, then restarting.   Reset the printing system wiped out all my printers in the "Printers" pane in the "Print & Fax" system preferences dialog window  I moved forward and fix permissions of the drive on my system disk.  A number of authorities have been repaired, but nothing that I could decipher impression related ro.  Finally, I restarted my Mac and went directly to the dialog box print & Telec.

As the printers pane was still empty, I'm gone before adding the simplest of my printers (LaserWriter 360 connected via AppleTalk) who has always been correctly added to the list printers in the past.  No chance!  WAITED a few minutes everything is was "Looking for new drivers.".  I tried the Color Laserjet 2605dn.  No luck.  Then the Laserjet P1606dn.  No luck.

Thus, this way of solution did not work, and now I was without any driver associated with one of my connected printers.  I decided that I had no choice to rebuild the operating system.  I started my DVD of Installation OS 10.5.4 to rebuild my system (without reformatting my HARD drive).  Once which was finished, I've immediately went to the Print & Fax dialog box and tried to add in each of my printers.  In a few seconds the LaserWriter was added successfully, then the HP Color Laserjet 2605dn, and FINALLY, the Laserjet P1606dn.  Thus, it appeared that my upgrade to OS 10.5.8 was at the origin of the problem.

I proceed with Sofware Update to restore the computer to OS 10.5.8 and again once, went to the dialog box Print & Fax to experiment with the addition of each of the printers again.  Stopping before the acceptance of each 'Add', I could find quickly and successfully the drivers for each of the connected printers.  So, it doesn't seem to be a problem with OS 10.5.8 find printer drivers.

After reflection, I concluded that the problem must have appeared during the upgrade to OS 10.4.11 OS 10.5.4, but it remained hidden until I tried to add these new printers to the list of printers.

I appreciate the reference to the last download Laserjet full feature software.   Since I was able to solve the problem without it, I mind not do the download.

I want to thank you for patiently stay with me during the last two weeks, your advice and comments.  Just having someone to "talk" about it, it was reassuring and useful that I went along to apply each suggestion to the problem.  I tried to solve this problem several times on my own before that, the search of the forums, and I hesitated to participate actively – to reach out.  I'm feeling very different about it now.  Once again, thanks a lot.

  • cannot find the folder "program data".

original title: New Data - Program for Windows 7

I just bought a new computer with windows 7.  I am trying to install programs, for example, installing a program to C:\program data\Quantum.  I go to 'my computer' and can not find the folder "program data".  Is it possible that windows is hide it?

    Sandy

    Hi Sandy

The program data file replaced the all users in previous versions of Windows.

Open Windows Explorer. Click on organize / folders and Search Options / View tab.

Select the option Show hidden files, folders and drives, and then click apply/OK.

Navigate to C:\Users. In this folder, you will see a folder named all users with a shortcut arrow or the layering of padlock. It is a symlink pointing to the ProgramData folder. Right-click on the folder and select properties to see this data.

Your programs are not currently installed just for the ProgramData folder. This folder is used to allow any user (for all users) access to an installed program that allows any user to operate this program.

Many times, when you install a program, you will see an option to install the program for the current user only, or to install for all users.

Another way, you can see it is to click on the Start button, right-click on all programs, and select open all users. This will open Windows Explorer to the

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu folder.
