Firefox hangs at any page at random

For about two weeks, Firefox crashes on my end from 30 minutes to an hour of navigation.
It is not a Web site where it crashes. It may hang on a page load, while scrolling or
even when I just read the page without user intervention.

I desperately searched the problem to find the cause. So far, I did
the following things to prevent Firefox from crashing (also read on forums):

  • Reinstalled Windows 7 to a new beginning
  • A hardware memory have scan to see if it was defective
  • Did analyze a hard disk
  • Disabled, all extensions and plugins
  • Disabled firefox sync
  • Firefox is the only program running

On a few crashes, I still have some addons or sync enabled, but on my last accident, I disabled everything.
I can't find a specific action or to accidents.

My system:

  • Motherboard ASUS P6X58D-E
  • Kingston HyperX Triple Channel 6 GB PC3-12800 1600 MHz, 9, Non - ECC, set of 3
  • Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB, 7200 RPM, 32 MB, S - ATA II/300
  • Intel Core i7 950 / 3.06 GHz processor
  • 2 x Sapphire RADEON HD 6870 (sli)
  • Windows 7 (64-bit)

Until the accident happens, Firefox has never crashed on me. I hope you can help me
I like Firefox, but for now I have to use Chrome.

hour, thank you tibler for pointing me in the right direction. The problem seems to be the latest ATI drivers with 2 graphics cards. CCC 12.8.

I uninstalled the drivers and installed the previous version 12.6:
http://support.AMD.com/us/gpudownload/Windows/previous/12/pages/Radeon.aspx?OS=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064-bit%20Edition & Rev = 12.6

I reinstalled all the addons, enabled synchronization and activated the hardware acceleration. It's been about an hour now, and Firefox is still completely stable!

Thanks for the help

  • Firefox hangs at random, even with all extensions disabled and new profile, but not in safe mode

From about 2 weeks ago, Firefox has been crashing. Accidents is seemingly random, but normally occurs when several pages/tabs are opened. In addition, all observed accidents occurred in the middle of some operations of the user. If I leave it just opened (and responsible), he would never crash even after a long period.

Also, accidents happen even once all extensions are disabled manually. However, it seems not to happen in Mode without failure.

After each accident, in the crash report dialog box, the 'Détails' report would not respond. However I can open reports using the command about: crashes.

Before the accident would happen, sometimes evil-following behaviors may be observed:

    • Firefox fails to render characters CJK, their view as a rather square boxes
    • Ideogram IME(Namely Google Pinyin, an IME for Simplified Chinese) is no longer can be enabled in Firefox, on a Web page element, or on the UI of Firefox itself (i.e. the address bar or the search bar)

The following has been tried but no luck:

    • Disable all extensions manually
    • Start a new profile
    • Reset Firefox
    • Uninstall/reinstall Firefox
    • Beta version of FX, 14 to 15, and then to 16

  • I just installed firefox and it does not load any page

I just installed firefox on my mac, and it does not load any page at all!

    Hi robertoberlin,

Could you give me some additional information, and I'll try to help.

    • Do the pages in safari/workload?
    • What is the error you get?
    • What type of connection are you on? WiFi? At home? In a school / University?
  • Firefox don't support not any page after some time.

I'm having a problem with firefox while surfing after a while. For example, during the first 15 minutes, there is no problem, after a while firefox does not load any page, I have to close and reopen again to make it work. While firefox does not load, I can use other browsers as usual. It just don't load not any page at all, but the program itself is so I can close it with the X button. What could be the problem, I'm using firefox last.

  • Is it possible to start Firefox without having to open any page, not even a blank page?

Just curious. Is possible to start Firefox 4.0.1 without opening any page, not even a blank page?

No, you can hide the tab, if there is only one tab open, but it's not good to do.

Perhaps if you explain why you don't want a blank tab, maybe we could have a nicer-sounding answer, if the answer is still no.

What I don't like in Firefox 4, which is a blank tab ("" subject: vacuum "") presents itself as 'New tab' which is incorrect, once you do another thing the former title on the tab before 4.0 was more correct and it was in parens so he showed better as "(sans titre) ' on the close tabs and is correct, because it has no title."

Yes, it's normal. You want to disable that? There are a couple of settings related to resume your previous session after a crash:

    (A) resume automatically, but if Firefox crashes twice in a row, displays a list of windows and tabs and let me choose. (default)

    (B) does not resume automatically, always show the list of windows and tabs and let me choose; (I recommend this approach) or

    (C) never automatically resume and do not display the list.

Switching to B or C requires a visit to Firefox about: config preferences editor.

    (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (2) in the search above the list box, type or paste sess and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    For "B":

    Double-click the browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes preference from 1 to 0 (that's a zero).

    For "C":

Double-click on browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash preference to change its value from true to false.

  • Firefox hangs frequently on Windows 8.1

Firefox has been suspended at apparently random times since I got my laptop Windows 8.1, who owns an i7, 8 GB of RAM and Intel HD 4600 Graphics.

Hanging itself lasts anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes, and it usually freezes all other programs as well. It can happen at any time, regardless of the memory usage - when I open a new tab, when I type in the search bar, when I click on a bookmark, etc.

This does not work on my Linux Mint partition, nor on my Windows 7 computer. In view of this fact and my laptop specs, I doubt that it's a hardware problem. My best guess is that one of my plugins/extensions is at the origin, which I believe have been met in the troubleshooting information.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

Can you try disabling the hardware acceleration?

    1. Click the menu button

      then select Options.

    2. In the window of Firefox Options (or preferences), click on the Advanced tab, and then select general.
    3. You will find in the list of parameters, the checkbox use hardware acceleration when available . Clear this check box.
    4. Now restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Another possibility is that the database of places, which stores the history and bookmarks, is corrupt. I saw the following extension recommended as a way to correct, but I don't know how (or if it's running on Mac):

I want out of the MSN homepage in IE and I was wondering if a homepage is available in Firefox? I can't seem to find anything that could answer this question, but I'm not well versed in the use of the computer.
Probably a thing of the age.

Firefox and IE are web browsers. You can set any page you want the home page in Firefox, or leave the field blank. The default homepage in Firefox is Subject: Home

  • At startup, Firefox hangs and does not respond.

Occasionally, he will ask to open in safe mode, but most of the time that it just hangs. I think it has something to do with the profile because it works fine on the other account that is on the same computer. The only thing I did before she started to act up was have it delete my browsing history after his stop. Is there a way to save only the bookmarks, and delete the rest of the profile?

This also works on Mac, so make sure you select the correct OS and Firefox version via the dial up.

  • Firefox hangs for a while when the download window appears

Whenever I have start a file download (regardless of its size), Firefox hangs for a few seconds, sometimes more. I deleted the downloads.sqlite file and it helped for a few days but it started happening again. I deleted new downloads.sqlite but this time it would not help. I even installed the add-on DownThemAll as suggested some people, but it happens with it also.

I use Firefox for 7-8 years now and never had any problems that cannot be solved, but this more a few more freezes or crashes from time to time starts to be annoying. I have all the major browsers installed because of my job, but kept FF as a default, but I'm starting to consider a switch after all these years.

Can someone suggest a soluton? And I do not consider disabling the pop-up downloads a solution.
