Firefox latest version (7.0.1) is detected as obsolete

Each time that a website tries to detect which version of Firefox that I use, he seems to believe that I use an older version. The thing is, I always have to keep it up to date. Feedback from Mozilla even tool at input.mozilla.com says:

  • "Oh!" So, you want to offer us feedback on Firefox. Thank you, but you need to be on the latest version. To do this, simply go to our download page and install/update to the latest version of Firefox! »

I just tried to update manually by downloading the 7.0.1 installer and it works. The problem still exists. I use Firefox 7.0.1 on Windows 7 64 bit.

Your UserAgent indicates that you use Firefox 3.6.3, no Firefox 7.0.1.

Just installed Firefox latest version (26), now cannot move tabs. (Had problems with session restore, too, with 21.0.)

    Ideato, HughHyatt, PeaceByJesus, jscher2000, nameany2,.

Thank you all for your kind contributions, thoughts, questions and answers!

Regarding the tab move the question, which itself resolved after a few reboots, with no further action taken by me. Thank God!

nameany2 is correct; most people know many things to try.

But every once in a while an obscure answer will appear on this forum that I would not have thought, thank you all.

I think it is Adobe Flash which crashes my browser. I don't have no tendency to grow by opening several tabs. (Flash is notorious, and I get tired of 'update', more of what updates are marketing ploys.) This thread is not about this, but I hope it's useful to others with this problem.

Good work, everyone. I appreciate the work you put in!

  • I need to update my firefox latest version

I'm not a technical person. I tried to update firefox due to a pop-up message on my old version. I followed the instructions to click on Firefox Help, then select about firefox. Then, I was ready to install it and restart. But then he asked me to go to Mozilla.org to update the old version and now I'm stuck! Frustrated! and I'd like to talk to someone on the phone to guide me through the update.

In General, when you install a new version of Firefox, the installer detects your existing settings and use them to implement the new version. When you upgrade rarely (that would be about a year of releases), maybe sometimes there are glitches in the process. Therefore, I suggest making a backup of your Firefox profile folder (the folder of personal settings) first. This article offers suggestions on backup: back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox.

Yes it is an intentional security patch. You will need to follow the link to an html page, in my view, allowing you to work around the problem. Something as simple as a file with the following text

       <a href="/path/to/saved/extension.xpi">click me to install</a>

    • Windows/Mac: choose Help > restart with disabled modules
    • Linux: run firefox-safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens fine with no problems, it is probably one of your extensions that is causing the problem. You can reactivate your modules one by one until you find the one that is causing the problem to be re-activated.

  • Behavior of toolbar button broken in WYSIWYG in the latest version of Firefox desktop

We use a WYSIWYG editor for adding and editing the content of some Web sites that support us. With the latest update of Firefox, toolbar buttons to clean up the contents of the Clipboard as RTF or plain in gray text when the cursor is placed inside the editable text box. This bug is not exposed in any other browser and does not appear in the previous version of Firefox.

    ---

    MORE INFORMATION

    • Toolbar buttons do not disappear when the page is loaded; they can still be clicked to clean up the contents of the Clipboard until the cursor is placed inside the editable text box. While this will not break our editing experience if we could be guaranteed that our site editors have always been paste content into the empty text boxes, we cannot make that assumption. Therefore, the ability to place the cursor within the editable region before clicking on the toolbar buttons is essential and the disappearance of the buttons is a bug.
    • Listed above, this behavior has been isolated as being only present in the Firefox browser, and only on the latest version of Firefox. Is attached a screenshot of the correct behavior, toolbar buttons disappear not when you click on the area of editable text in Google Chrome.
    • When there are several areas of WYSIWYG text on one page, they are the object independently of the other. That is, clicking in grays only editable text one area on the buttons of the toolbar for this particular text box, and others remain clickable until the cursor is placed within their respective areas of editable text. Clicking outside an editable text area does not "restore" buttons to a clickable state. Once they dimmed, they seem to stay like that, unless and until the page is reloaded.
    • Other buttons on the toolbar, such as those to insert/remove the hyperlinks, or make the text bold or italic, are not affected by this bug.
    • Error was replicated on OSX Yosemite, El Capitan of OSX and Windows 7 Enterprise

Wow, you have a lot of scripts on this page... I see the behavior that you see, test on Windows. (By the way, I had to use HTTP instead of HTTPS.)

Edit: No errors appear in the browser Console to indicate a problem when clicking in the editing area, so disabling seems to be design in the editor, perhaps caused by a detection or object/property/method version detection problem.

  • Each update of firefox is not compatible with the latest version of Java (including 90% of the internet use), how can it be fixed right NOW so I can use firefox?

I don't like updates of firefox, trying to be more and better than the competition, I get it. However, each update is incompatible with Java 100% and where people who work together and makes these updates are not aware, the world wide web all use Java. Why would anyone want to use firefox, when they can't even use the internet?

JavaScript is not Java, as said and JavaScript is part of Firefox, so nothing to update.

  • What is the latest version of Firefox which can run unsigned module?

I downloaded the latest version of the installer of Firefox offline and it will not run an add-on unsigned vital. I have an older version of Firefox (42.0) who execute him. What is the latest version of Firefox without verifying signature of the add-on? Thank you.

42 of Firefox is the latest version of Firefox which has been made public. If you run a generation later, it's probably either every night, beta or Dev edition. If you have an add-on unsigned, you run in these editions, you can disable the requirement by setting xpinstall.signatures.required to false in: config.

  • Why can't Norton Identity Safe compatibility be integrated into the latest versions of Firefox? IE seems not to have problems with it.

Firefox constantly asks me to upgrade to the latest version, which is not a problem as long as the new generation is compatible with applications that I serve throughout and rely on every day. I use the 40.0.3 version and it wants me to update to 41.0.2. If the Norton Identity Safe toolbar work with my current version of Firefox, what is the compatibility issue with a newer version of Firefox? IE does not appear to have this problem of update... which makes me consider the switch back to IE as my default browser. I rely on the Identity Safe to take care of my connection problems, and there is no need to deal with problems of incompatibility. I know I'm not alone in finding this aggravation with updates. (I use Win7 Home Premium, 64-bit).

Sorry, this is a change in the types of code Add - ons are allowed to include. It was supposed to change in Firefox 40, but at the request of vendors such as Symantec, it was postponed to 41 of Firefox. I don't think this change will flip over. Norton is working on a new version, but I understand that it takes longer than expected.

Here's what I suggest for users who need Norton password security features:

Instead of freezing your Firefox on a non secure version, consider using the Extended Support Release (ESR). It is designed for businesses that require a cycle time longer between changes to the features, but anyone can use it. ESR is currently based on Firefox 38. It will get updates of security over the coming months, but not to get new features, so changes in Firefox 41 concerning the compatibility of the add-on will not be out for a good time.

Norton is likely to continue to support the ESR until the new toolbar update is finished, maybe next month. After that, I don't know what they will do because normally they don't take over a small range of versions.

If you decide to try it, here's how I suggest to install:

    Clean reinstall it

We use this name, but it isn't about deleting your settings, this is to ensure that the program, files are clean (not incompatible, corrupt or exotic code files). As described below, this process does not disrupt your existing settings. Don't uninstall NOT Firefox, that does not need.

    (A) download a fresh Installer for Firefox 38.3.0esr of https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ in an ideal location. (Scroll down your preferred language).

    (B) the release of Firefox (if any).

    (C) simply rename the program folder, either:

    (Windows 64-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx41

    (Windows 32-bit folder names)

    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

    TO

    C:\Program Files\Fx41

    (D) run the installer downloaded to (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

    Success?

Note: Some plugins can only exist in the old folder. If it is missing something essential, present in these files:

    • \Fx41\Plugins
    • \Fx41\browser\plugins
