  Hello. Thanks for all the posts on this topic. I have the same problem, as described by the op. But, while I use Avast, I have NOT the add-on from Astromenda which has been mentioned. However, I have the SB installed toolbar, and it has been recently updated, 29/12. I suspect that it is the culprit, if this problem is in fact not caused by an update of Firefox (my tiles have recently been reset on new tabs, and I suspect that Firefox for this problem).

  I am ready to remove the toolbar from the SB, but prefer to keep it (Yes, I admit I'm stupid) If this annoying 'new window = 2 tabs with 'new tab' at the top' would just leave.

  Even if the value of reg from irandom Adobe was of no use to me, I spent some time going through one machine which worked and which didn't... and I fixed it!

  After having done that, Acrobat really remembers its size and its location on my screen!  Both when launching a PDF itself or by the icon of the program.  Finally, I can come back to life.

  What is a pop-up or is it your homepage?

  If it's something from the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base How to set the home pagearticle. There are the steps in this article to reset your preferences on the default home page. I would try everything first to clear all strangeness. If it works, you can try to set your homepage again to your personal preferences.

  If this does not work, you should look the article How to fix preferences that will not save.

  If this isn't your homepage has changed, I'll try from Firefox Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode.   My first recommendation is that each of you get your own e-mail account. They are free. If you decide not to do this, change to POP3 instead of IMAP Gmail settings. If you connect to Gmail via your browser, go to the settings, then transfer and POP/IMAP. Change to activate the POP protocol for all messages.
