Firewall wireless

Hello people,

Until last week, I network my 3 computers using Ethernet wiring wiring, where the hub / modem has a built-in hardware firewall. In this scenario, I was fine with the own Windows Firewall. Now, my computers are networked using a 2.4 GHz Wireless N group adapter.

My question is this: do I need a firewall "stronger" more "robust" than Windows own firewall, as I don't have the built-in hardware firewall? If I have a firewall 'better', any suggestions / recommendations? Currently, I use Panda free Antivirus and am very happy to stay with them, even if their firewall is available in the paid version. I also use and do Beta testing for, Zemana anti-malware and Anti-Keylogger applications.

Any help appreciated.

Kind regards

Techno BearPup

The usual configuration goes like this:

Modem - router - Access Point/Switch

The router is your hardware firewall. Your computers are always behind him if connected by cable or wireless.

    Hello

Your 2 wire wireless mode, is actually a Modem/Router combo.

I hope that your Prosafe device is connected as a switch with an Access Point.

If it is connected as a second router you have independent networks that will not work against the second router NAT doble and thustwo.

You can try to disable the Windows Firewall:

If you have installed the new Norton protection, I don't think that you need more Windows Firewall.

  • Windows firewall stops when a wireless connection is established.

Windows firewall stops when a wireless connection is established during the start-up or wakup or manually connected via wireless.  The firewall can be activated manually after wireless connection is established.  Firewall survives boot and reactivation if computer connected to the router via ethernet (cable).

OS is 32-bit Vista Home Premium, SP2.  The platform is Acer A4720Z dual-core Intel laptop.  Wireless adapter is integrated Atheros AR5007EG - Atheros 7.70.396 driver (whidh is current & compatible Microsoft version).

Current virus/firewall is MSE and MS Firewall.  No firewall problem until the installation of Security Essentials.  Previous virus/firewall was Mcafee SecurityCenter Suite that uninstalled cleanly via the Remove Mcafee (MCPR.exe) utility.

All the relevant ideas welcome. Thank you.

Go to network and sharing Center and then choose manage wireless network and try to remove this Wireless if it is there and try to add it again if you want. Try to upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials and also check for update for Windows. Also, run the full system scan and remove potential threats. • WIRELESS and wired LAN do not know each other

My internet provider installed a new cable modem, without capacity WIFI because I have an airport extreme base WIFI (with cable Express extensions).  Speed and quality are OK, wireless and wired, but there seems to be a wall of China between WIFI and wired (LAN): devices that are connected via a cable to my LAN are not visible from the wireless network and vice versa.  Airport extreme is not 'Bridge' mode ("because not of wireless on the new modem capability".)

No idea of the reasons for this?  Thank you very much

Sounds like the configuration of the device. With the airport devices it can operate as a device on the network or another firewall as its own network. I think that it is way jumpered to activate, this will allow you to configure the wireless on the airport, but your current router will do the DNS/DHCP and will be a single network.

Now that you have configured as two routers on an independent network as there is no bridge.

  • Try to install the adapter wireless network on s5503w

Can need help, someone tell me the solution for my problem on the Pavilion Slimline s5503w wireless network adapter?

It has an operating system of windows 7, works in 64-bit, 3 GB of RAM, proc AMD140 to 2700 mhz. Have you tried three different suppliers of network adapters wireless Rosewill RNX-N180PCe pci Express 1, TP-Link TL WN781ND pci express 1

and now finally, Netgear WG111v3. I just want to get the wireless desktop. I have a wireless G of Linksys WRT54G Router, D-Link print server currently works wireless. I have Zone Alarm Firewall and Avira AntiVir Personal Antivirus.

Yes, windows update is turned on and it's all good. The problem is once the driver software is loaded, then the hardware is installed. Windows never displays the wireless network adapter on any able to pick up a wireless transmitters. The error I get is: an unexpected error has occurred.   Seek to deepen, I read that he was saying that Windows could not set the IP address.

This would indicate that my software driver wireless network adapter did not work. Yes, I have installed internet access and it indicated on the Internet site, that the cd was the most recent driver so no additional download was necessary, use the cd to install the driver. In addition, went to the Windows 7 compatibility page and the netgear WG 111v3 that my current card is authorized for 64 bit. So, where should I go from here? Oh, yes the s5503w recognizes the hardware in the device mgr. He sees the driver software, it's like something is blocking the final stages of obtaining information IP/MAC of the wireless network adapter.

    Hello:

I would say that there is a problem with the 3rd party firewall.

I had the same network Netgear USB v2 card no less, and it works well with my setup of W7 64 bit on my HP PC.

I recommend you uninstall or disable the ZoneAlarm firewall.

W7 features of a firewall, your router WRT54G has a hardware firewall. I had one of those too, but moved to the E2000. I assume that your wireless network is secured in some way.  I think that this is your problem.

Did you know that you can get a free antivirus/antispyware software from Microsoft that works just great?

    Here is the link:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/PC-security/MSE.aspx

I think that it would cause less problems with my installation of other free software system. I have yet to be disappointed.

  • Of the wired wireless

I have a new dv7 in transit. This will be my first experience with the radio.

I currently have an Ethernet wired home linking two desktop computers and two printers via a netgear router with VPN and hardware firewall to the internet via a modem cable. The two existing computers are running Windows XP SP2, will lead the new laptop Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I was told that the systems should have no problem of communication between them as a peer network.

Clearly, I can simple cable the new computer to the existing network, but would like to have freedom of movement for the laptop offered over a wireless connection. The new laptop will be wireless "N".

I'm looking for are suggestions, or links to other sites, to connect wireless to wired network. The existing network is running well so I prefer to leave the router existing in place if possible. Can someone suggest a simple gateway (read inexpensive) to the existing router? Or, the router will have to be replaced to ensure a reliable and secure?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might be able to offer.

dv7t-1000CTO Vista Home Premium (32 bit)
    DV6-1350us Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

Thanks again for your response. Looks like I might as well have an "N" router to take advantage of the ability of "N" of the new computer laptop to good quality. I was lucky enough to have set up the network with minimum conflict, I guess I can do it again. I made some superficial point access material prices and found that it is just cheaper than a good router minimumly.

Hey people, trying to make my old laptop back to semi in working order.  Did a fresh install of Vista, but the wireless card for some reason any will not access the internet, says "local use." Internet works as the other computers in the House are connected on the wireless and when I connect the ethernet, features of connectivity cord.  Crossed and uninstalled/reinstalled the driver.  I have no special security here, just the windows firewall, which I disabled the thought that he could block, but it was not the question.  Other ideas you can come up with that would be great.  I have also included the hardware ID for my wireless card.  Pilots have been taken off this site from hp for my computer model as well.

You need to install a driver update... the problem is probably your router is too new for the old driver wireless deal.

  • NB510-108 problem with wireless and lan controller

    Help, please!
(answer in German would be nice, ill try English first tho)

I installed ubuntu 12.04 on my toshiba NB510-108 (PLL72E-00R011GR) and then I was not able to go online via wlan or lan same kable.
After some effort to install the drivers through ubuntu I have installed windows 7 starter edition back but now windows does not install the ethernet / wireless drivers realtek or atheros network device.
so I tried to install all the drivers wireless by http://toshiba-asia.com/sg/support/drivers/ but now when I try to run these drivers after loading them down windows 7 cannot install correctly, it says that there is a compatibility issue. I tried to run these drivers in compatibility mode for win xp sp1 and win vista sp1 without success.

Also, I installed all the drivers for my model of http://de.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=DE here with some of them have been properly installed and even when I get my system to a point where I find the two network devices work as 'good' in my windows Device Manager, the following problem occurs again:

I can't find any of my netbook WiFi network (wlan is enabled via fn + f8) no matter what type of router I try to connect. other laptops have about no problem connecting to routers so that can't be the issue. When I click on the windows just below the wlan troubleshooting info it only says no problem could be identified (the system is in German, so please excuse my translation)

In the information system components and devices of problem the pnp for the ethernetcontroller said pci\ven_1969 & DEV_1090 & SUBSYS... and for the networkcontroller: PCI\VEN_10EC & DEV_8176 & SUBSYS...
If it is useful. I also wanted to put my dxdiag online file, but this extends the limit to 3000 characters.

Someone here could help me please? It would be really nice

    Hello

I m wondering why you have the same problems of connection using WLan and LAN.
I mean its not really necessary to configure anything to get a connection to the local network works.
The router must support, and DHCP must be enabled in order to assign the IP address automatically.

I recommend that you check the TCP/IP settings in your network WLan and LAN connections.
In TCP/IPv4, you can view the properties. The INVESTIGATION period and all other options should be set to assign automatically. You should also disable/uninstall the TCP/IPv6 and must use TCP/IPv4

By the way: you have an antivirus and firewall software installed? If so, remember that the two don't affect the WLan/LAN connection.

On the occasion of the installation wireless worked. However, every time there is an update to Windows or the DSL router is restarted the printer converts fax only or is not at all.  In 20 years I never found such a little messy feature.  Latest version of the software downloaded to the printer HP (full version), uninstalled all HP printer software, run Registry eval and cleaned up all references to the HP printer.  Restarted PC and printer.  With the help of the installation on the PC window I have reset default and then set up wireless for my LAN wireless option.  He finds an IP address on the local network.

When I ran Setup complete, concludes that the starting unit to address IP and then dish moved.  A cut a firewall protection and virus.  Good God!  I can't believe that HP could not do better than that!
