FireWire 800, USB 3.0

I have an older iMac that has a Firewire 800 port and no USB 3.0.

I would like to use the Firewire 800 port and convert it into a USB 3.0 with some sort of connection.

This way I can take advantage of the most recent items USB 3.0...

Is this possible?

doubt firewire800 is slower then usb3, but many usb3 devices would probably work with just more slow usb2

  • Slow down the FireWire 800 Port

I'm rocking an iMac 2011 2.5 with 16 GB of RAM, running 10.11. Recently, I came to realize that my firewire drives are not as fast running they have on other Macs. I have two drives of Garland, a LaCie 2Big Triple and a G-Drive, both using Firewire 800. On two drives, I have a maximum of 60 MB/sec in reading, 40 MB/s write - tested using BlackMagic and AJA. I tried all the logical steps: swapping different cables, test drives individually [instead of Garland], reformat them and test again, all with the same result. I even tried to turn off FileVault on my internal drive, although I can't imagine why it would make a difference. These same readers have been tested in the same configuration with a 2011 MacBook Pro 13 ", also running El Capitan and saw regular speeds of 75 MB/s read, 70 MB/s in writing.

Anyone have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer.

Once more, here are the technical specifications of the equipment involved:

    • Mid 2011 iMac 21.5 ", i5 Quad 2.5 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB HARD drive. Running OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan.
    • G - Drive 5th generation, with Hitachi 7200 RPM 2 TB drive. formatted in HFS +, connected via FW800
    • LaCie 2Big Triple, with two 1 TB drives in a striped RAID.

    Only for small problems.

In OS X system prefs, under the energy saver, try to uncheck "put hard drives to sleep as much as possible."

In addition, try to set your display to sleep, but not your computer to sleep, to see if the car and transfer speeds pick up.

Make sure that you have no other devices FW 400 slower chained, as optical drives FW400 external, slower.

Connections by default FW protocols all speeds of data transfer for the slower speed of the FW Protocol devices.

    Good luck!

I borrowed a camcorder tape Sony that has an IEEE 1394 (ilink Sony) and eager to download video from my iMac.

You want a Thunderbolt Apple FireWire adapter. Here is a link (to the US store):

  • How can I recover data when the firewire and USB ports do not work?

My MacBook Pro has been flooded by water, and no ports work. Anyone know how I can get information on the new system or hard drive and my computer?   The cost of repairs to the machine is $ 800, so I'm going to buy a new.

Remove the hard drive in an external enclosure supporting USB or Firewire. Connect to another computer to retrieve your data. This requires that the player was not damaged.

  • FireWire and USB connectors

I have PC HP Pavilion Elite e9300z equipped of a 1394 connector. Anyone know if it's a 1394 or 1394b (Firewire 400 or 800) compatible?

If I want to add a USB 3.0 card, where should I use and what type of power connector would be used with this PC - Molex or SATA?

    Thank you very much.

I have not found a decent picture of food on the HP site, but I found this site that has the power of HP original adduction (part 5188-2859) for this device.

Food seems to molex and SATA power connectors, so it really depends on what is available in the system.  SATA is more recent, but either we could work as a long time that what you add support.  Just in case you don't know, white connectors are molex and the black connectors are connectors to SATA power.

The motherboard should look like this once it is open.

The three short PCI express x 1 slots is the crack you up when you add an extension like a USB card.

It seems that the firewire port is 1394 a.

Here are the full specifications of the motherboard if you need.

    Hello

If the USB Port is damaged, you will need to take the computer to a reputable computer repair shop to replace.

If the system is still under warranty, the manufacturer should be able to replace it.

  • "the creation of the video preview failed" to DV (firewire) and USB webcam camera

Device Manager reports the two devices "working properly", but all attempts to use their failure any software I use.  The error varies with the software package.  Trying to get a preview of the video via "My Computer" results in the error "the creation of the video preview failed".

Devices used for work several months ago but I don't remember exactly when they stopped working.  A Service Pack or some other Windows Update update may have caused the problem (not sure).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[My system: Windows XP (Media Center Edition), Service Pack 3, Dell Dimension, Intel Core 2, 1 GB of RAM]

Nevermind, it works now.  For those who have the same problem, here's what I did to remedy.

    1. take DirectShowSpy.dll of Roman Ryltsov http://alax.info/blog/777 and at the command prompt, type "regsvr32 DirectShowSpy.dll" to save it.  (In fact, I used a previous incarnation, also by Roman Ryltsov, called FilterGraphSpy.dll that I had downloaded previously).

2 - try to use your webcam or your DV camera again.  If it works, you can uninstall DirectShowSpy.dll by typing "regsvr32 /u DirectShowSpy.dll".  My camera and webcam continued to work properly after I uninstalled it FilterGraphSpy.dll.

That's all.  Although I did some DirectShow programming, I don't know the reasons detailed why this would clearly be this specific problem.  Roman could.  Good luck.

  • How can I create a backup of my Macbook in Mavericks dmg?

    Hello

I send my white Macbook (mid-2010) for the repair and I want to have a backup copy dmg to all of the hard drive until I have everything removed.

I can do it using disk utility in Mavericks? If not, is there another way to do a backup dmg please?

I already backed up with Time Machine, but I don't know if that would transfer all to the Macbook or another, and I would like to find a dmg file easier.

I don't think that having enough storage first put to El captain.

If you have a separate hard disk or an unused partition of drive of sufficient size, make a clone bootable from the computer as it is. CarbonCopyCloner to use and you can make a clone of your entire system bootable. This clone can be used to boot from, and once booted from it, you can reverse-clone the back of the system.

You can get CCC here - https://bombich.com

I use a FireWire 800 USB external drive bus-powered or to clone my MacBook Pro.  Last night I replaced the drive in this computer with a new SSD drive, booted from the clone, clone that system punt return for the SSD and just that easy, my MBP is exactly he had been immediately.

  • What is the fastest connection that I can use for a new external SSD for my MBP late 2008?

That IS the question. I want a new external SSD for my MBP late 2008.

What is the fastest connection type that works?

'External' and 'SSD' could be a problem.  SSDS are different animals of disks spinny.  Some will say that you need not trim on SSD (TRIM is a management tool to move only the ' opportunity' bytes in a block when the block of data is moved), but definitely TRIM does not work on USB or Firewire.  Not sure if the TRIM works on Thunderbolt connected readers as it does on disks SATA-path, however.

Speed included between slower and faster, however: USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800, USB 3.0, love at first sight.

  • storage of complete Mac

My macbook pro is full. My iCloud save as it is said that your Mac of storage is full. How can I fix it? I don't want to optimize the images I'm afraid that I won't get the photos full resolution back.

What is the best way to solve this problem? I really want to keep all my photos if possible, or is there a way to archive them?

How much space you currently have on your MBP?  If you let it do too low the MBP will freeze and not be able to start.  It is strongly recommended that one maintain a minimum of 109-15 GB of free space to facilitate application and optimal system performance.

Get an external hard drive, format the OS X Extended (journaled), whose property value is ignored

and copy these files that are rarely used or are in need of it.  You can either get a kind of 'office' self powered hard drive or a bus powered DHM like these: OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro FireWire 800 + USB 3.0/2.0 USB 3.0/2.0.

One possibility would be to put your photo on the EHD library and have a second, smaller trip on your MBP library.  Photos can be copied between libraries and their metadata (keywords, titles, descriptions, faces, places) with the paid version of PowerPhotos.

But what you do not clear a minimum of 10 GB of space free as soon as POSSIBLE!
