Fixation of the BONE after replacing the motherboard

Hello

Pavillion A1712N with Vista Home Premium edition had video dead. After researching it and try less costly alternatives, I ordered a new motherboard with PN even. Noticed it was slightly different from the original when he got here - number of USB ports and the lack of some media different ports at the rear. At the start of the OS is not "like and reboots after flashing a blue screen." The troubleshooting script cannot fix and gives the error that it cannot repair the system.

We called HP support and after chastizing us for not having HP do the work, they don't offer any suggestions. I think I need to boot from the original Vista CD and do a repair of the operating system (as we used to do with XP and NT), but I've never done this with Vista. Is this the way to go, or am I headed in the wrong direction?

Most likely, you need to restore the complete system. That would eliminate all user data such as documents and images.

I can do a system restore to before the replacement motherboard without problem?

    Hi DannyRS,

Because you are replacing hardware on your computer, you will need to reinstall the operating system. Make sure that you all have a complete backup of your important data before you make these changes.

  • After replacing my motherboard in my HP system, Windows will not be activated.

Activating a computer you already enabled...

I have a hp motherboard went blewy, when I reinstalled another motherboard with all the same stuff he told me that I had to activate windows, wouldn't let me open a session and can not get telephone service to make his case either, it's hp that came with it installed and worked upward until the MB went up in smoke... can you please help?

    Hello

The system is HP, and very probably the OS is OEM. As the motherboard has been replaced the operating system sees this as a new system. You will need to buy a new copy of Windows or contact HP for the media.

  • How can I fix Windows XP OEM after replacing my motherboard computers?

Replaced mother on board, how can I do a repair (the Win XP OEM retail box) of Win XP installation?

original title: how to install Win xp oem retail repair?

You can try to boot from the installation CD and select the repair option.  License of the OEM version is however considered as not valid once you replace the motherboard, unless it is the same brand and model as the original, then I wish you good luck!

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • Satellite Pro P100: How to recover BONES after replacing HARD drive

    Hello

I bought a satellite Pro P100, and I want to change my hard drive
I have the CD restored, but I think that this will not work with a new hard drive!
What can I do to recover my windows?

    Sorry for my englich!

    Thank you

    Hey Phillipe,

Your recovery CD works on what hard drive install you in your laptop. Are the only factors affecting the hard disk of your choice: -.

    1. compatibility of the BIOS (should not be a problem with the P100 model)
This model mainly old laptop impact where the BIOS could not recognize larger drives.

    2 form factor
You should make sure that the disc you choose has the same physical dimensions as your
    existing drive.

    3 speed
Disks hard more quickly improve access times so check out 5400 and 7200 RPM. (there may be a problem
with the generation of heat so 5400 RPM is probably better than 7200)

The are no problem with Windows licenses as the license applies to the operating system itself and not on the hard disk on which it is installed.

    Kind regards

  • HP ENVY 17-3290NR: wrong information after replacing the motherboard

    Hello
I have a problem after replacing my motherboard because the old stop working
I had a new HP spare parts for my HP ENVY 17-3290NR after installation I realized that in hp say assistance:
HP pavilion dm3 instead of hp envy, series and product number say 123456789
so I can't use my drive recovery or the app by default because I've read that I must retatoo the motherboard, but hp do not provide me with dmifit or something similar, then what can do? I call the tech support of hp and they just told me to go back to that motherboard despite the part is correct, he's simply wrong information

so, how can I change the information on the bios?

I retattooed my motherboard using dmifit and now everything works fine

  • XP Home OEM locked fixation after replacing the motherboard

I am repairing a HP Pavilion with XP home SP3 locked to the motherboard fried as a favor to a friend.  My friend insists on XP and wants / needs to preserve installed programs & data on the disk (which is always good when tested elsewhere).  He has some company reprogramming s/w radio, which only works on XP.  We know that it will buy a commercial version.  I can't find what really works, said http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292607 that it can be upgraded to XP Pro (that he would) but which covers only SP1.  My proposed seller says House cannot be upgraded to Pro without a complete reinstallation and did not oem home home retail.  XP Mode under W7 pro is not an option, if the serial port-> time of radio is not quite right, expensive business radios becomes expensive bricks and it will not run the risk as it will be with XP on new MB/CPU.  There current image backups, but they are always blocked, of course.  The drive passes the test of the provider (in another machine, of course).

Can XP Home SP3 OEM evolve into XP Pro SP3 without a reinstall (i.e. reformatting & install)?  Can XP Home SP3 OEM be 'upgraded' to XP Home SP3 detail without having to reinstall?  Is there a better way (with XP) to solve this problem?

    Thank you!

Final result: after the installation of the new motherboard, the installation of XP Pro SP3 retail disc does not recognize the installed XP home SP3, said that he was not an operating system on the partition and did not offer an option to upgrade.  The software provider was right, and the article cited above wrong, at least for SP3-> SP3 on this particular configuration.

Then, I started from the original hard disk and attempted an activation of the phone, which didn't.  The robovoice said of trying to update the license key, that I made using one on the COA, then try activation phone even once.

It worked.  There are more drivers to dl and install, but the box still works with a new MB and dual core CPU without a reinstall or OS update.

So despite all the stories about tattooed motherboards and cannot reactivate XP if they are replaced, the real recovery was relatively simple.

  • Windows 7 Home Basic will be activated not after the replacement of the motherboard has failed

    Hello

My cousin has a copy available from Win7 Home Basic SP1 64-bit, which is an OEM pack and geographically limited in India.
Recently, the desktop motherboard has developed a fault and it was replaced by the seller that it was under warranty (so assuming that to be the same brand and model of origin).
After the replacement, he receives a prompt from time to time that the version of Windows is not genuine and a new product key must be purchased which means buying a new copy of Windows altogether.
I tried to help him with his number and did some research on the microsoft Web site. I tried reactivate using the same product key, but get the message that the hardware has changed and the same key cannot be used. I also tried to use the phone activation method - but after entering all numbers of 9 series a message is read on that there is a technical error and the appeal is terminated. (But he does not say why the version of Windows cannot be enabled)
I came across the following post which seems to suggest that the same product key can be used as long the motherboard is replaced for a foul and the brand and the model have not changed.

I would like to know if there is a way to validate the Windows version now. We are concerned that both the computer and the BONES are authentic copies and licensed and it is not just that we need to get a new product key. I would like to know if there is a phone number or address of Microsoft office in India or abroad with which we can express our concerns.
    Thank you

  • ProDesk 400 MT of G1: Problems after the replaced the motherboard

My motherboard was replaced under warranty and reinstalled OS. so needless to say I'll have to reinstall many things.  How to find the name of the network card?  There is no name that appears in the Manager of devices or any other place that I have watched.  On the inside of the computer, there are just a number: DC4A3E442418.  I need the driver.

I found one driver on driver recovery DVD.  This PC back together after a new motherboard and reinstalling the operating system is worse that my experience reformat a PC.

  • Want to 800-060: reactivation after replacing the motherboard

I bought a HP Envy 800-060 with Windows 8 pre - install Amazon in July of 2013. It was an incredible computer since that time, and when the free update of Windows 8 for Windows 10, I did immediately released. Recently, however, the motherboard has failed on the computer. It would not stay same POSITION, and after much troubleshooting, I finally decided to replace the motherboard. Now that the computer is running again, I guess that the motherboard change was sufficient for the operating system to think that it is no longer enabled. I was never provided with a key of Activation of OS (Win8 has been pre-installed), and Microsoft has suggested that I contact HP to find the original key. I've looked everywhere on the chassis and inside the tower for a valid Windows activation key, nothing helps. I tried to find a phone number to call for support, but my product is outside the guarantee. I don't need advice or troubleshooting tips (so I don't pay the $59.99), all I need is my activation key valid Windows based on my serial number of the product. Anyone know the best way to achieve HP with this problem and have it is resolved?

    Thanks in advance!

The unfortunate, is that your original product key has been incorporated in the firmware original by HP motherboard UEFI when the PC was built.  There is no way to recover this key now.

HP retains no record of keys to individualized product corresponding to individual computers, so they won't be able to provide you with the original key - and they are under no obligation to provide you with a SECOND key, that you didn't do the replacement of HP hardware.

With the product now being out of warranty, it's really call HP or not you upload support - and the experience I have had with older equipment-, they do that, there's just no way around IDs.

HP customer support is really the only way you have to get support.  If they don't help you for free, because your PC is out of warranty, there is nothing we can do about it on this forum.

  • Touchsmart 320 computer: Activation of Windows 7 after the replacement of the motherboard

After that my PC has failed because the motherboard has been damaged by an electric shock, I replaced the motherboard in a Service of HP to the Chile. When I got back my PC it works fine, but after 1 week, it begins to show a message that says I need activate Windows 7. When I try to activate, it asks me the product key, but there is no place to find. After a few days it will lock up and I could ' t use more. I pick up the PC with recovery system and works very well the first days but again is asking me to activate Windows 7. Where can I get activation key for my Windows 7 original product? I want to continue to use my PC normally.

    Thank you.

    Greetings,

There should be a Microsoft COA 25 character sticker attached to your system.

Try the product on the certificate of Authenticity number.

You will need to contact HP for the service if there is no COA sticker.

It seems that HP did not tattoo the BIOS on the new motherboard with the correct information to auto activate the operating system.

  • Pavilion p6-2133w: upgrade Windows 10 Pro activation after replacing the processor and motherboard

I upgraded a Pavilion P6 W10 Pro in September. Everything was going well until the motherboard and processor failed. When I replaced the hardware I am prompted to activate Windows - I have the product key for Windows 7 Home Prem OA office machine that does not work for W10 Pro. I don't know how W10 Pro ran six months and support MS insists I do decline to W10. Two questions.

1 how W10 differ from the W10 Pro?
    2. How is this W10 Pro could have been improved in Windows 7 Home Prem OA? Looks like a decoy on the BONE.

    Greetings,

The replacement of the mother/CPU card can be extra monkey wrench in this situation.

You cannot use a key of Win 7 Home on Win 10 Pro.

You will need to install Win 10 and then move on to Win 10 Pro. Win 10 going to Win 10 percent if you had an activated copy of win 10 Pro.

    1. other features such as BitLocker and domain join.

    2. I have no idea how you've gone from Win 7 Home win 10 Pro. Were you a BETA-Tester (Windows Insider program)? I upgraded from Win 7 to win 10 Pro, because I was a BETA-Tester,

I just did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro but ignored the input of the product key. Windows activated, but not right away.
