  I've seen a ton of articles discussing the decision to Adobe for renaming Flex Builder to "Flash Builder" for version 4.0 and wanted to see what you all think.

  Personally, I agree with a lot of blog comments that it's a bad move.

  Flex apps are not Flash applications (fortunately), they just happen to run into the same runtime (Flash Player). AIR applications are not Flash apps as well.

  I still think that Flex will succeed, but you all are eagerly working in Flash Builder 4?

  I hope Flex continues to succeed despite this movement.

  Honestly, I don't think that it has nothing to do with 'big picture '. It's just a strategy of marketing at low cost. I don't really like it it is called until they maintain Flex in there and don't start messing around with it (in the negative sense). If they do go crazy and decide (one day) to Flex up-side-down so I'm sure they will lose a big chunk of the existing community.

  All these changes are wrapped up in a pretty box, called: "the image of the greatest", but in reality, they only create more confusion. Instead of focusing on marketing (which is of course an aspect important also, but still, I think that they really are not planning these releases seriously) and other things that didn't matter to the people who are making money with the help of technologies provided by Adobe and at the same time, they bring money to Adobe by buying licenses and do free advertising often enough , they must work on the debugger and the things that we finally get a mature IDE for development (just to compare Visual Studio with Flex Builder - in that rhythm, when do you think that Adobe will be able to get an IDE as mature than Visual Studio and effectively?). If he sees no cela (or can't understand there is a huge need of a more effective and more mature IDE) and they will continue to put more effort into the marketing side rather than actually focusing on the needs of developers, so they're going to lose a lot in the long run.

  I'm really curious to see how the new constructor behaves (and I really hope that when they said: we will make the most efficient compiler, fix the bugs and stuff like that, they meant really; because if the new version of the generator will be just a 'brilliant on the body even old dress' with 2-3 minor corrections here and there) then I'll be very disappointed).

  Just my 5 cents.

  EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the guys at Adobe are not putting the effort in the IDE, but I think that the marketing aspects are more important that to really make the IDE works as it should. Too many releases, too many changes of names, too much nonsense that would not have the same important if they make serious measures with the IDE and reach a more decent level (I don't want to even mention the tools to draw UML diagrams for AS/Flex/AIR applications are almost nonexistent, and those that exist are a really poor quality).

  I don't know if this is the right forum to post this problem, but here goes.

  I've been developing an application using Flex Builder 3. Today, I met a strange problem. When I use a table variable in an Actionscript class, the compiler detects more errors against the class definition. I have only encountur this behavior with the Array class. Other classes of higher level, seem to work. F.i. I can insert the following text in a function:

  var a: Array = [1, 2, 3];

  var i: a.Len;

  After construction, I get no error. When I run the application, the variable I is set to 0.

  I tried to clean up the existing project. I created a new project in flex from scratch. The problem remains.

  I did not have any updates lately, f.i. flash player, java,... the development environment has not changed as far as I know.

  Can someone give some advice about this problem? Thank you.

  The table is a dynamic class, as an object, which means that it is perfeclty happy to return values for properties that have never put. These values will be "undefined", which, when converted to an integer, turn into 0. This is the kind of unfortunate behavior, but there is no way to get around.

  I don't know where else to ask this question. I developed in Flex until now using the open source FlashDevelop (Windows only).

  Now I'll have to develop on a Mac and want to buy Flex Builder. On the purchase page, it shows «platform - Win/Mac» What is this means that it contains the software for both Mac and Windows platforms? Or does that mean the Eclipse plugin that can work with Eclipse on Mac and Win?

  I also know that the Flex Builder 4 is in its Beta phase. It will be released soon? Should I make the purchase during the last version came out?

• How better to organize Flex Builder projects within a source code control system?

  I'm working on a team of average size of a company product developers who will use Flex on the front-end, remote access services for Java objects on the server, etc.

  Right now, I just created a sample application with a Flex Builder in Eclipse project and the use of WTP.

  I'm looking for advice or suggestions on the best way to organize a large Flex/Java project for the team with subversion, etc.

  Is it wise to record all of the Flex Builder project (i.e. files properties etc..)?  Our development environments will be identical, because they will be the virtual computer images.

  I did a lot of research and found a few bites, but I thought I'd see if I could get feedback from other people who have experience with this or are organizing their code source etc.

  1. Yes. Note that once Java and Flex in the same project, I first had to create a Java project, and then something like Flex Project Nature > add Flex Project Nature. Try to do the reverse (start with a Flex project and add the Java code) worked for me.

  2. it's been great. Franck Wolff, the lead developer, has been very sensitive on their forum (even with stupid questions that were actually my fault). He added that some requested features for as3 Enums, and overall we were pretty happy. We do not actually use the fanciful granite features (other than his actionscript generator gas3 of objects for the AMF client-side); We use it mostly just because we moved to her before the Blaze. However, we have no intention to the flame.

  3. Yes, throw us just jars of granite in our war, although maybe this isn't the right thing for everyone. We have a heavy enough demand, so we can dominate the server simply assume.   You don't need BEA Workshop or IBM Rational Software. I think it means that you can install the plugin eclipse/BEA Workshop on top of Flex Builder/IBM Rational Software.

  If you choose to Flex Builder standalone, then you have even eclipse. If you choose Flex Builder Plug-ins you need eclipse.

• Flex Builder 3 plugin question extracted Installer

  I downloaded the Flex Builder 3 for Windows plugin today and tried to run in. The InstallerAnyWhere has a popup saying "Please select another location to extract the installer to" but anywhere on my system file I select it still maintains the same question. Only option is to cancel the installation at this point. Anyone know when this will be fixed?

  It seems that our corporate firewall corrupts the download. I have access toa version someone downloaded home and that worked correctly.

  Hi, I'm new to flex (basically a Java programmer). I have a few questions. I'm using Flex Builder 3.
  
  (1) what is the difference between the class Action Script and the file Script of action?
  (2) when a class Action Script generated, I think flex builder puts in cache even after that I have to delete the file. So how to remove the cache too.

  They may have the same name, but it is not advisable, because you tend to run into this kind of problem. The question is scope. Your error takes place on this line:

  loginMaster = new LoginMaster;

  It is really important to remember here that every MXML file is pre-compiled in a class ActionScript and MXML components are referenced by the rest of the system in exactly in the same way that classes ActionScript - because they are, in fact, the ActionScript classes.

  So when you say "new LoginMaster", the compiler must find a class named LoginMaster. At this point, the compiler is not aware of what classes began its life as a component MXML; they are now all classes. If the compiler will pick up the LoginMaster definition that has a scope - the closest at hand - which, because you actually write this line within the MXML LoginMaster component class, solves the component class itself, not your other class in a different package, which also happens to share the same name.

  There are ways around this, but I have to recommend not to have classes AND MXML components with the same name, or you find yourself continually encountering difficult to diagnose such problems. If you have just renamed your class AS something like LoginMasterModel, or LoginMasterView MXML component, these problems could disappear. Your code will be also much easier for others to understand in the future.

  Has anyone met Flex Builder 2 suspension while starting up? I reboot my system every night until I get home there are a lot of days when I start to Flex Builder 2 the next morning and I get the 'Progress information' dialog box where it says "load project...". «and «Analyze a project...» "but he's right there with a few bars on the progress bar and new bars never appear.

  Hello

  Flex is not form part of the Creative Suite as it is a complete development platform and not a platform for design. Its for developers only if it does not form a part of the Creative Suite. What I've heard, is that Adobe will come out with Flex Builder 3 last part of this year or next year. Don't worry, Flex is a great thing, and with Apollo coming out, I don't think Adobe will soon cease it.

• Flex Builder 3: Start browser error

  Of course, I'm running Vista, which is probably the culprit here, but I don't have a lot of options. When I click on the thumb, debug and, or preference/browser buttons, I get a dialog box titled "Windows - No Disk" error and the message says "Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 parameters 0x75AD023C 0x84C3A86C 0x75AD023C 0x75AD023C. Buttons to cancel, Try Again & continue just redisplay the error dialog box. The only option is to put an end to that time to Flex 3.
  
  I do not have Flex Builder 2 loaded, and I always use it. I can provide a list of HijackThis if requested.

  After a bit of searching on Google, I managed to find an answer that worked for me. I have all the letters associated with my removable drives and power off reassigned (I tried to restart but the resolution came the next morning after power back on).

• Console works do not flex builder 2 and 3

  even since I installed flex builder 2, I've not been able to get get output in the console window. I posted about this before, but has received no response. so I just installed FB3 and I have the same problem. the only way to get my tracing instructions in the console window is double-clicked, or open the file - debug.swf. I am running windows vista.

  I think that your debug version of flash is not installed correctly. Try to uninstall the flash player then reinstalling the flash player DEBUG version.

  I have configured my Flex Build Path (in the flex project properties) in this way:

  Unfortunately, these files are created in these ways:

  D:\project\bin\projectPackage\Main-debug.swf

  So I just moved my main application file to the directory of classes ( D:\project\src\classes\Main.mxml instead of D:\project\src\classes\projectPackage\Main.mxml), and it's much better this way! :
