FN key issue...

Is it possible to lock the fn on a dv5-2034? How?

I really want to block so I can't press it before you can use the f keys.

You can disable the feature by disabling "Action keys Mode" in the BIOS...

I have a laptop (DV6206us) and recently started having some keyboard key issues. For example G, H, BACKSPACE, scroll keys and some other don't type/work in a hurry. The keyboard itself has had a cover transparent latex that I installed the keys because I bought it to protect from spills, dust, etc... After taking a closer look, I noticed that if I press a certain area/s around the keyboard keys are working. But as soon as I release the pressure of the particular region the keys stop working.

This is an easy fix? Something I can do myself? If this is not the case, what would be the approximate cost for the repair or replacement of the keyboard?

I suspect that my son (15mos) is at fault. I have a few times caught using my laptop as a step back bag, while the laptop was in the bag. The backpack offers a padding on all sides. But I think that the pressure of him standing / use it as a step caused the keyboard key issues.

The problem has been resolved with just open up the laptop and fixing the connector loose keyboard cable I found.

    Hello

I got my hard drive replaced by HP on May 25, 2015 as the laptop is in period of warratny and installed Windows 7 but now I see that my webcam, the volume keys and the brightness keys do not work.  My laptop comes with Windows 8, but I felt uncomfortable to use and therefore installed windows 7.  Could someone guide me why am I faced with these issues.

Is this because the drivers installed not for Windows 7, webcam, sound keys and brightness keys to do a few other glitches.  However, please provide me with a link to drivers for the same.

HP does not support books for consumption by 32-bit operating systems, and they will not support of software provide the warranty for any other operating system that came with your laptop.

  • Re: Function keys issue in Toshiba M50DA103 with Linux

    Hi all

I bought this Toshiba M50DA103 to eventually eliminate the pre-installed Windows 8 and install my flavor of Linux on it instead. However, there is a problem annoying with the function keys, a problem that appeared after I installed Ubuntu Linux. The function keys appear to all foires (the key which is supposed to increase the brightness suspends the computer instead, and so on.)

First of all, I thought that this could be a problem with Ubuntu only, but then I tried to boot Fedora, and the problem is always the same. That being said, it could be a matter of core, or a problem of hardware compatibility.

Could you please give me some ideas on what I can do to fix it? In fact, I have discussed this matter with the Ubuntu forums guys, but could not reach a solution.

    Please help, if possible.

    Thank you.

    Hello

I tried to understand the situation of the hotkey and belive it works like this:

The kernel has a certain driver, toshiba_acpi, who handles the events from the keyboard shortcut key.
The driver is for a reason any confused about the layout of shortcut keys.
I think that most of the distros uses the same driver for the kernel, so it won't do much good to exchange for another.

You mention the unit suspended when it is supposed to reduce the brightness.
This is how was the plu layout of Toshiba - FN + F3 = standby, hibernation = FN + F4.

So what is happening is that the driver react the "old way".

I reached out to the maintainer of the pilot to ask questions about how it works.
Don't expect miracles or even any improvement at all.
But if we are lucky, we can find the roommate of changes.

  • Satellite C660 hot-key issue

Hi I was recently provided a C660 Satellite for my further education, even though I believe in my haste to get configured how I want to set up my computers, I might of disabled the shortcuts keyboard reading everything on this forum I found I will need to grow once again allow the TOSHIBA Button Support to run in the beginning but no matter how hard I try to find on msconfig, it seems more to be there, anyone have any ideas on where I could find it on the C drive?

Although one of the strangest things I've noticed this problem is that the volume buttons still work perfectly, it's just the rest of them.

    EDIT

Just to know I think I solved my problem to the other people there, here is the process I used to solve the problem of the access key.

Start menu--> write msconfig in the search box on vista or windows 7 (if you use XP box, type this information in the Run dialog box)--> will start--> get KeNotify Application and select it to run at the beginning.

There you have it seems to solve my problem, so I hope that it helps out you.

  • Portege Z930 - FN keys issue - showing no no menu on screen

    Hello

I have toshiba portege Z930 and my function keys worked until I installed YAC (yet another cleanser) to get rid of some malware, which worked, but the problem is that even after uninstalation, function keys is broken:

FN + y/z which should highlith the keyboard does not work (I have installed what is called the "function key" for now, that works as well with the FN 1, 3 FN, FN 4 and 3 + 4 to volume)

but others simply does not work:
    FN + ESC (mute)
    FN + F2 (eco mode)
    FN + F5 (control switch)
    FN + F8 (wifi/bluetooth switch
    FN + F9 - 12

Could someone point me to good drivers for this? Thank you very much
    Karolina

    What Windows system is installed?
In the case of Windows 7, you need to install Toshiba Value added Package
In the case of 8.1 to win, you need to install the Toshiba system parameters.

But be careful: some FN key features depends on the 3rd software. For example, you will not be able to use the FN + F2 if eco mode ECO Utility isn't installed.

But why n t give you the OS at the beginning point of time until you have used the cleaning tool?

  • Tecra A11 - space keyboard key issue

Just wonder, if someone with an A11 has similar problems or my keyboard needs to be replaced.

When I type, very often the space key is not accepted. Very annoying when you type without looking at the text of all time.

    Hello

I m not Tecra A11 owner but on my other laptops Toshiba, I have never had a problem with the keyboard. Each key will be recognized properly if I press on it.

I guess than your Tecra A11 is fairly new so it of still under warranty. Please contact the nearest authorized service provider. Guys can replace the keyboard because there is no unique key.
But don t you worry not about it, it is covered by the warranty. :)

  • Key issues of a recovery/key - Lenovo Y50

    Hello.

I have a few questions about one of the keys.

My laptop came with windows installed 8.1, and all drivers installed - to make sure that I've updated all the drivers via the Lenovo Web site and my via the website of nvidia graphics card driver.

    1. nothing happens when I press on the button recovery, when my computer is on - is this normal? Will not it pop up with a few options to restore or something? At least it should open the one touch application, right? When I press on it when the computer is off, it starts up with a BIOS screen with multiple options - everything as I thought it would be, so I guess that works very well.

    2. I did a a key backup through the application of a single key, I recorded it on my SSD drive since it is the only drive I have currently, although my SSD is great of 256 GB, I have also a small drive called "LENOVO", which contains the drivers etc, but it is 25 GB of big - I read somewhere that this disc has been lying for the backup of a key , but my current backup fills with 50 GB twice the capacity of the disk D: - is anyway I can make it smaller, or should I just get rid of the D: drive? In this case, how?

My one key application is Version 8.1.0.2619

I thank you for your time and have a nice day!

    Cheers - Simon

When you are connected to Windows, press ANY BUTTON will do nothing.

To start under Recovery there are options in the control panel or the Menu of charms. or as you did stop and press the NOVO button.

The D: contains the drivers for Lenovo, is NOT the recovery partition. The recovery partitions are hidden and cannot be seen in Control Panel > administrative tools > disk management

To make the best use of one key you create a recovery drive/USB disk.

It is not a backup of the system, but it is a recovery disk and must fit in a 16 GB USB key.

  • Product key issue.

I had Windows with my laptop. I have the product key on the back. My laptop is broken, so I no longer use Windows on it. Can I use the license on another PC?

    Hello

No.; You can't use it on another PC.

If the computer/laptop comes with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.) or is licensed to OEM System Builders, that the product key that came with the computer/laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) and the license OEM System Builders are related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when machine who dies.

Only retail Operating System license that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

    See you soon.

  • OEM Windows XP or the key issues

    Hello

Recently, I dug up a lenovo thinkpad t61. He was missing a hard drive, but I ordered a new one. The COA is still intact. I was wondering if I could reuse this COST to install XP and then upgrade to a newer version, such as 7 or 8. All other parts are OEM, except the HARD drive. If I could reuse this COST and upgrade, that appropriate measures would be updated from XP to 7/8. 1

If you can return the hard disk that you ordered a refund, it would be the best option.

Yes, you could install XP... If you have the installation media of XP for the same (family/professional edition) version as the license key on the certificate of authenticity.  You will need to download all XP Lenovo drivers and install them.  Next, you will need to download and install the necessary service packs and updates critical post-sp3... and then you you would end up with a non supported (since April 2014) and increasingly vulnerable system.

System specifications for the minimum system requirements for Windows 7 and Windows 8 T61... but

There is no way to direct upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 (or 8).  It takes a "clean install".  If you had installed Windows XP, you would be eligible to purchase a version upgrade of Windows 7 - but these days, which would be extremely difficult to find, at least at the initial price.  In addition, it is not at all clear that Windows 7 drivers are available for all components of the T61.  You can see the page linked above.  If the drivers are available, see this article--> http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/seven-perfectly-legal-ways-to-get-windows-7-cheap-or-even-free/1533

The story is similar for Windows 8.   Apparently some people were successfully Windows 8 on some T61s--> https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/T61-and-Windows-8-compatibility/td-p/909565

I suggest you check the Lenovo Forum for advice and suggestions.

  • Windows XP Home Product Key issues

I'm in a jam of sorts.  I have a Dell laptop which has crushed and need to reinstall XP Home.  The problem is that I can't find my XP Home CD that came with my Dell.  I have a CD Windows XP Home from a walkway all-in-one who is dead and is now trashed.  I ran the installation worked fine all except for the start of the Activation.  He said the incorrect product key.  I used a tool recommended on another site to save the old product key upward, but nothing seems to work - the old key from the Dell CD or one of my gateway.  I don't know what to do at this point?

If you have an OEM version of Windows XP, product key sticker should be placed on the computer/laptop tower by the retailer. Note that Microsoft will not be able to help you with an OEM version.

    Contact Dell to discuss it.

  • Reformatting and reinstallation of Windows XP SP1. (Product key issue)

Hello people on the Microsoft answers forums!

Dell Diemension 4550 Uncle started recently to behave non normal way. I found that the only solution to repair the computer after numerus charge calls to make sure the problem is to reformat and reinstall the operating system. Currently, on the computer's operating system is Windows XP Home Edition SP3. I have the original Windows installation disc supplied with the computer. (Windows XP Home Edition SP1) That's my big question that I hope can be answered. If I reinstall the operating system and then re - activate using the same product key, Microsoft will allow me to activate Windows again? I hope so because I can't afford to buy a new set of Windows XP software. Please let me know what's going to happen if I try to reinstall Windows! Thanks to you all!

That works perfectly.  You can re - install and re - activate it many times on the same computer using the same product key.

The only potential problem would happen if you replaced a significant part of the hardware of the computer, such as the motherboard.

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.
