Foglight APM - JMX monitoring

Hello

I'm new to Foglight for Java application, monitoring, please bear with me in case I have posted this requirement in the wrong forum and tell me please right forum.

I have obligation to use the JMX Foglight cartridge, aggregate the MBean attributes in different objects MBean and return the details in tabular mode. Can you please suggest how can I do this... ?

Thank you

Sunder

It probably depends on the data itself.

The JMX agent is the mechanism for this information.

With Foglight, there are different ways to build custom dashboards to display data.

-The easiest way is to drag and drop dashboards, you can drag node that contains items beneath him and choose to create a table

Then choose what you want to display

You can also drag and drop metric and view as a table or list

-The second way requires more knowledge of the Foglight Web Part infrastructure, in some cases people take courses to get that knowledge, in some cases, they get professional services Dell to help with it and in some cases they follow this tutorial and then join the courage of things.

Hope this helps

  • What is the difference between Foglight JavaEE and Foglight JMX monitoring?

    Hello

    I have a plan to monitor the 6.1.0.17 WebSphere Application Server (32 bit) and 7.0.0.5 (64-bit)

    But I understand not all Foglight for JavaEE and Foglight for JMX.

    Foglight for JavaEE or Foglight for JMX is able to monitor WebSphere?

    What is the difference between Foglight JavaEE and Foglight JMX monitoring?

    Thanks in advance

    Jeans

    Just to add to the excellent answers already posted.

    We have 2 agents which allows you to monitor Java:

    1. a JavaEE agent that runs inside the JAVA virtual machine and the information of both JMX and instrumentation.

    This Agent will give you JMX information like information of JVM (use of the bunch, son etc.), of the Application and server availability information and other information of JMX/PMI (connections pools, pools of ejb, servlets, jsp, JCA and more).

    Java EE & # 039agent also gives you information of the instrumentation - RFA count and response time, exceptional output and timeout information, distribution of queries (App/DB, component technology, server, application failure), object tracking, transaction flow and stransactional between servers and data sources) and ask traces (the ability to see the trees of the RFA at the method level to know where things are slow/stuck).

    2 JMX agent is running outside the JVM but can run on the same computer or on a remote computer, this agent requires access active, JMX. This agent gives you information JVM, availability server/applications, as well as some data as the application server published using JMX (pools of connections, JCA, EJB, servlets, etc.). The JMX agent also gives you the ability to see a list of the mbeans, get the data they expose (javaEE agent gets only a predefined list (same list that is used as a template for the application servers in the JMX agent)).

    Hope this helps

  • How to monitor oc4j 9.0.3/4 & JDK 1.3 using the JMX cartridge.

    Hello world!

    I want to follow the oc4j 9.0.4 on windows server 2003 using JMX. But the jdk 1.3 does not support the connection of jmx.

    What could I do?

    Thank you!

    As you note, JDK 1.3 does not JMX support, so you can use the JMX monitoring agent.

    Similarly, JDK 1.3 is too old to be supported by the Java agent.

    Older versions of Java JDK 1.3 are "not updated with the latest security patches and are not recommended for production use." http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/Java/javasebusiness/downloads/Java-archive-downloads-javase13-419413.html

    You can monitor older versions of OC4J using:

    -Agent infrastructure for monitoring the use of process and OC4J resources on the host

    -LogFilter officer monitor the application log file

    -End user agents to control the specific transactions synthetically or any site web sessions passively

  • Foglight 5.6.10 and Foglight NMS

    A copy of this question that was posted on the Foglight APM forum for NMS people respond

    http://communities.quest.com/message/93787

    "

    Hello

    We use 5.6.10 Foglight to monitor our production environment (VMware, Oracle, MS SQL, EMC Storage) and some time ago, has also decided to try Foglight NMS for just a few critical devices (UPS in the server room and some basic switches) and integrate it with Foglight.

    But now it seems that the product is EOL.

    So my questions are:

    1. I remember the product was free up to 100 devices, it's always like that? I've heard of representative commercial, changed up to 100 ports instead of devices... Even if it is true, I am still below, sostill want to use it.

    2. How do we get for free (up to the limit of devices/ports), but the license permanent?

    Concerning

    Jack Stys'

    1. There are no longer free licenses available. It sometimes ends in 2012.

    Is this possible? Which agent would be used?

    It's quite possible with Foglight APM components, particularly with the devices of the APM. They allow you to only look at captured http (s) network traffice use network sniffing technology.

    Http (s) sniff can run either physical or virtual (i.e. on the VLANs).

  • WebMethods followed with Foglight

    Has anyone tried monitoring WebMethods using Foglight? I have the cartridge J2EE deployed and FxM setup on one side of the WebServices and are capable of producing statistics, but WebMethod is the Web service consumer and I wonder what I have to do in order to control that?

    I think to deploy J2EE cartridge and also cover the traffic on the probe of FxM WebMethod?

    Anything else that I'm missing here?

    Thank you

    AJ Aslam

    Hi AJ,.

    Your approach to the use of FxM to monitor web services and the perspective of the user to WebMethods and agent traffic Foglight Java to monitor the JVM WebMethods is good. You can also use the LogFilter agent to monitor the log files of WebMethods, recorder Tranaction Foglight to monitor the application of synthetically and AppMonitor to monitor the process of WebMethods from the point of view of the BONE.

    You can add the following snippet to the startup script WebMethods to integrate with the configuration of X-Agent Java cartridge (assuming Unix):

    WebMethods.sh

    # Integration of quest Foglight Java agent

    JAVA_HOME = ${JAVA_DIR}

    QUEST_DEPLOYMENT_DIRECTORY = / opt/Quest_Software/Foglight_Agent_Manager/agents/JavaEE

    If [f ' $QUEST_DEPLOYMENT_DIRECTORY/integrate.sh '] then

    QUEST_JAVA_ENV_OPTS = X-AGENT:. : JAVA_RUN

    PERFORMASURE_OPTIONS = "-Dquest.agent.appserverinfo = WMintegration_$ {HOST}": Generic:3.1.2:Integration ""

    . "$QUEST_DEPLOYMENT_DIRECTORY/integrate.sh".

    on the other

    echo agent Java EE not activated

    FI

    This block should ba added just before the line that starts the WebMethods server:

    #... to perform integration server

    ${JAVA_RUN} {JAVA_D64} - DWM_HOME = ${WM_HOME} - classpath ${CLASSPATH} ${IS_PROXY_MAIN} ${IS_DIR}/bin/ini.cnf,

    The other thing you need to do is exclude the instrumentation WebMethods infrastructure classes by adding configuration exclude attached to the JAVA_AGENT_HOME/config/agent-override/instrumentation.config. Note that this configuration has not been thoroughly tested, but should provide a good starting point.

  • JMX with custom keystore

    How can I use the JMX monitors, if I have a custom SSL key file?   Using JConsole follow these steps:

    JConsole - J - Djavax .net .ssl .trustStore = trust.jks

    But how to translate this in terms FMS/JMX?

    Please advise - thx - pd

    Heh - after some screwing around with other settings - I ended up doing the following (which works)...

    1. On the host target of the agent, using keytool, use the 'importkeystore' option to move the private key from the keystore trust.jks to the cacerts file in the/jre/lib/security/cacerts of (I had 2 JRE I did both to ensure): keytool importkeystore-srckeystore sslKeyStore - destkeystore /jre/1.6.0.21/jre/lib/security/cacerts (this will prompt you for password cacerts file - changeit and your source keystore password if it needs a).
    2. Restart the instance of FGLAM to pick up the new SSL key to use JMX SSL.
    3. A new JMX agent with a single installation connection string: service: jmx:rmi://xxx.xxx.com/jndi/rmi://xxx.xxx.com:8686/jmxrmi
    4. Once connected (YES!) and then build your server model as you wish

    Thought this might help someone else uses SSL for JMX (usual safety requirement) and monitoring of the FMS

    Hi Rachel,

    You can take a look at this:

    There are other ways to accomplish alert forwarding too. The easiest would be to create a simple rule that fires when other rules, and have the action on this rule makes the transfer of fire alarm.

  • Distribution rules and registry variables between vFoglight facilities

    Hello!

    We are responsible for a number of clients vFoglight facilities. I wonder if there is a more automated way to manage rules vFoglight & variables of register (RV) (alarms). Many of the default rulesettings are questionable. I am looking for a solution where you can pack all your custom rules and RV and then deploy these settings on other facilities at vFoglight.

    I looked through the vFoglight 6.7 guide http://us-downloads.quest.com/Repository/support.quest.com/vFoglight/6.7/Documentation/Management%20Server/vFoglight_CommandLineReference.pdf command-line Reference

    There, on page 119, I found the command of the utility configexport (export or import of a monitoring policy). I already said that if you only keep the changes you made in for example in the rules, you could distribute these through differrent vFoglight facilities, is this correct? Is there someone who has created a script for this in the community?

    I learned that the best practices for managing individual and variable registry rules must copy each rule and RV in the user interface and then configure the new rule with the new RV in the rule editor.

    To do this is a very repetitive task. Is it possible to automate this supported/not supported? Also is it possible to distribute these customized rules & RV between vFoglight facilities, it automate still further?

    Thanks in advance!

    Edit

    I had implemented a policy of control of the commandlline with the command:

    fglcmd.bat - usr foglight - pwd - srv - port 443 ssl - cmd - util:configexport f strategy. XML

    When I imported a strategy later. XML where I had deleted all the content with the exception of I reign with the command

    fglcmd.bat - usr foglight - pwd - srv - port 443 ssl - cmd - f policynew.xml util:configimport

    The rule has been changed!

    If (@event.isSet("report/errorMessage")) {}
    Return @event.get("report/errorMessage");
    } else {}
    Return 'Report' + @event.get("report/reportName") + ' run on ' + @event.get("report/dateRun") + 'is fixed. This IS a TEST 20121114 Erik Alm«;»
    }

    The only question is

    1. If I delete all content instead of 1 rule as above nothing has changed

    2. If a problem arises due to an import of strategy 'bad', it can be solved with an import of the backup strategy?

    3. is it possible/safe to distribute the policy like this setting, change the multiple rules/RVs in vFoglight different facilities? With other words, you I configfile change rulesetting in several facilities? (If they are of course the version of fms even)

    4. If the rule/RV is not created/copied before that, these rules/RVs are created?

    5. anyone done this before and created a script that they would like to share?

    Thanks again!

    Erik Alm

    Edit 2

    It seems that it is possible to import new rules and have them appear in the management dashboard with the possibility of enableling rule the. A bug is interesting that they disappear from the new data management dashboard, but are visible in the dashboard management legacy rule.

    1 - does anyone know if the existing rule management dashboard will be removed anytime soon?

    I learned that there is a specific effect is called fglIDE cartridge. I have installed and tested in our product environment. It certainly has a great feature, and we could really use it.

    My respects to Stefan Marx to develop it!

    But I wonder that will be included in the Foglight APM Solution?

    Of http://fglide.apmcentral.org/downloads/

    Disclaimer

    This software is provided as Freeware tools and is not part of the APM Foglight Solution or shipping. It it is not officially supported but if you have any concerns or Questions please use the Foglight community to post these or fill a Github issue

    Or Quest Software has a similar solution that is supported?

  • The service status

    Hello.

    Could you help me to understand two things:

    1. how to show the severity of service conditions (no alarm filter)? For example I service - ServiceASClient with four components (1,2,3,4). When even one of the constituents have a critical status, my service is in critical condition, but in this case I should show only warning for my service state. And only when all components of four in critical condition, then show the critical State for the entire service.

    2. how to use a custom rule to set service status

    Thank you

    Hello Nikolay

    I think that what you do reference is essentially 'clustered' services - if one of the four groups is down, the service level availability is not affected as the other three are still functional, but if four are declining, the availability of level of service is affected.

    Take a look at Foglight - system availability (http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/f/4788/t/19561856), excellent how Services and levels of Service (http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-apm/b/apm-blog/archive/2012/04/20/how-services-and-service-levels-work) and levels of Service (http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/performance-monitoring/foglight-administrators/f/4788/t/19561320).

    This can be difficult to get your head around, but persevere!

    I hope that's what you're looking for
