Foglight monitoring

Hi all

I put applications based on 'PHP', 'Click to View', 'MySQL', 'SAP', 'DataStage' to watch.

Foglight supports followed for these applications?

What is the level of parameters foglight can capture if he does?

Please suggest some articles on how to implement these app using foglight.

Need help on this matter as soon as POSSIBLE.

  • PS_App could not be found in foglight monitor agent areas

    Hi all

We have configured the monitor agent PS App for Peoplesoft-Windows machine monitoring. We gave the home path and the path of smoking in the properties of the Agent and the cartridge is 5.6.2.1 we use.

the agent is unable to find the areas for the host, especially for Windows machines.

Please suggest some troubleshooting steps to resolve this problem.

    Thank you best regards &,.

Gokuinath, I recommend put you foglight agent manager that is associated with the agent of PeopleSoft application in debug mode. With the debug mode, we can see in file of newspaper on what additional information the agent.

The command below will activate the debug mode without having to restart a foglight agent manager:

    fglam.exe - set-global-debug-level 1

You must disable and re-enable the peoplesoft application agent that you have worked.

To do additional debugging, we see the files of fglam newspapers and the foglight peoplesoft agent logs

  • Foglight monitoring Exchange - error

    Hi all

In Exchange for monitoring configuraion, initial stage itself am getting the error below, we are unable to find the exchange server.

Access error in the ISTEST.com with the supplied user name and password: javax.naming.CommunicationException: ISTEST.com:389 [Root exception is java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect]

I have attached the snapshot for your reference.

The most important thing with the exchange agent follows the prerequisites, they are under "System requirements" in the release notes http://edocs.quest.com/foglight/567/files/CartridgeForExchange_5632_ReleaseNotes.html

Given that most of the problems that we saw had not all the conditions in place pre, I recommend from release notes.

We all need, otherwise the installation will fail with all sorts of errors

    .

If you think that you have followed all of the pre conditions and will still have problems there is a diagnostic tool

    http://eDOCS.quest.com/Foglight/567/files/RemoteAccessDiagnostics_Guide.PDF

Make sure that you run the tool on the computer you want to monitor, and you choose the option for a unique/local server test, the diagnostics tool will specify what is missing in the prerequisites.

  • Foglight - monitor a file

    All,

I need monitor a single log file. I need to measure growth over time. If she stops to grow for 30 minutes or more, then it should alarm. What would be the best way to handle this?

    Thank you

I wrote a custom agent that is currently the following measures:

    echo filename. String.ID = $file

the echo of lastaccess: seconds = $LASTACCESS

    echo user. StringObservation.Obs = $OWNER

    the echo Group. StringObservation.Obs = $GROUP

    accessto the echo. StringObservation.Obs = $ACCESS

I also have a project that requires the supervision of a file size.

This custom agent must be updated to support the file size.

I'll definitely have built this until next Friday.

The agent has an entry for a specific file name, so you won't need to reverse engineer all xml files. (It's funny:-D))

If I'm done with it, I'll post to this topic.

Please note, there will be two cartridges. One is for Linux (bash required) and one for Windows (Powershell 2.0 required).

Maybe they are suitable for your monitoring needs.

  • Foglight monitoring Windows services

the majority of our servers are running on VM, vFoglight is very convenient on the system and monitoring of resources. But if I have to watch the top and to the bottom of the application processes, without having to install any agent. Any suggestions?

Yes, you need an agent for each host that you want to monitor the services, but these agents can run remotely, which means that you can have multiple agents on a single host FglAM WindowsHost.

Foglight comes with lots of rules out of the box for a large number of items.

If the element is there, and the data is there, the rule kicked in and verify the information (that's the idea behind DATA driven rules).

If the item or data are not there, there is no reason to run the rule.

  • Then Foglight to monitor a log file specific for the string "error"?

    Hello

I was wondering if there is way for Foglight monitor a specific log on a server.

For example, in the path below, we want to be alerted each time that the word ""Error"appears in the"FinancialReporting0.log"

    D:\mw\epm\domains\EPMSystem\servers\FinancialReporting0\logs\FinancialReporting0.log

An error in the log file example may look like this:

    java.lang.OutofMemoryError:getNewTla

Is this something Foglight is able to do and if so how?

    Thank you

    Tony

I know for sure a capacity similar Logfilter will become available in the future. You can check with the management on a release date. You can do this by opening a case of pension.

  • In a tool such as Foglight events about APM-driven alerts

    Hi all

Our company is currently having an internal debate whether Foglight can replace IBM Netcool Omnibus.  I had a conference call with Gartner last week to discuss the surveillance as a whole and one gentlemen on the phone said that "Foglight can replace Omnibus' which has left me a bit confused because I know that we have had these discussions with Dell, who said that they are not a replacement for Netcool Omnibus. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and I couldn't get their probe on this statement.

We currently use the functionality of Netcool Omnibus in 5 ways that are:

    Event command line injection

There is a binary called postzmsg which is drawn from the command line with parameters that contain the severity, summary, on call group and so on.

    Syslog monitoring
Omnibus has a probe called syslog that we use for monitoring Oracle database log files and trigger events in Omnibus if specific events are found in the newspaper.  This is done in real time.

    SNMP traps
Omnibus currently listening to breaks SNMP of some of our products like CA Autosys and cypress trees of the ASG.

    E-mail

Omnibus was an electronic probe that monitors a specific e-mail (Google) for specifically formatted e-mail account and then turns them into an Omnibus event.  We use usually this method as a last resort because it is dependent on the e-mail.

    Automation of self-correction
Omnibus contains what is called "Actions".  We can search for specific events, and then take corrective action with Automation in Omnibus to fix what caused the event. An example of this would be with our product CA Autosys.  Omnibus search specifically for events 'pulse' every 5 minutes. These heartbeats are sent directly by a job in Autosys which in turn proves Autosys is running.  If Omnibus does not see the heart beat, she considers as inactive Autosys and run scripts which then try to restart Autosys save.  Omnibus then reports if this attempt succeeded or failed and worsens the severity according to its conclusions.

Please keep in mind that all of these methods are with an event-driven approach rather than a performance-based approach.

I really need to have a clear picture on whether and how the Foglight can cope with the event focused on issues.

I asked Dell technical support who said the follow-up:

You may be able to use a script agent to meet your needs. The script agent could return data to the FMS and you could have a rule that fires based on the data returned. You would be responsible to creating the script used by the agent. There is a "Builiding Script Agents" section under the "Customizing Your Environment with Tooling | Building Script Agents" in the Foglight Administration and Configuration guide.

Has anyone had experience with this? What was the result? Do you use today? Advantages vs disadvantages?

If anyone has the source code example that it would be really appreciated! I am also very interested in hearing other thoughts which have Foglight and another tool such as Omnibus or other tools and how they use with Foglight or if they withdrew these tools after having long Foglight.

Thanks to you all! Looking forward to your answers!

    Larry Roberts

    Larry,

Foglight can be configured to monitor the applications where an out of the box cartridge (module) was not developed and delivered with the product. There are several ways to customize Foglight.

    Event command line injection

Looks like you want to send alarms foglight via a command line program. It is feasible because there are available with Foglight APIs to create alarms.

    Syslog monitoring

Foglight monitoring logs with the logfilter agent. You can set the strings that need to be searched (when a log file is updated by your applications), then specify the corresponding string (based on regular expressions) is a warning, critcal or a fatal alert.

For monitoring of log files from the database, which is available with the cartridges of the database (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Sybase) delivered with Foglight.

    SNMP traps

Foglight can receive (out of the box) SNMP traps and convert them to Foglight alarms.

    E-mail

I study further on this request. Basically, it takes an e-mail player that puts the emails in a log file that will read the Foglight LogFilter agent and search for error conditions.

Automation of self-correction Foglight rules have actions that can be performed in the cases where the rule detects specific conditions as the processor high as a basic example and then run the scripts commands, scripts remotely, send SNMP traps, invoke a JavaEE trace, etc. A custom agent could be developed to run your heartbeat AutoSys and then search for an answer to a file or stdout and update a Foglight table that is being tested in a rule.

  • Foglight - Manager of managers or more specialized?

    Good afternoon

We're just is getting ready to implement Foglight and I had questions regarding if mainly on door Foglight monitoring the performance or if Foglight is considered what the industry calls a 'Manager of managers' and so far I have not been able to find a clear answer on this. We would however get to a window unique globally within our area of surveillance. Most of the packages followed are more specialized packages.

That being said, Foglight envisages not only a pack, but also a 'Manager of managers' monitoring of the performance or Foglight is a more specialized tool for the end user experience and performance within our area of surveillance monitoring? If in fact it is considered to be a "Manager of managers", anyone integrates Foglight for products such as...

    IBM Netcool Omnibus

    SolarWinds

    Access

    And much more...

Y at - it support for these tools and Foglight connectors?  I see that Quest has partnered with Netcool/Omnibus in the past...

    http://www.quest.com/newsroom/news-releases-show.aspx?ContentId=378

I guess that this partnership has been advanced due to the fact that each specialize in your own areas supervisory? We have two Omnibus and now Foglight.

How Quest sees the role of these products such as Netcool/Omnibus and Foglight?

With online research them I found it seems that in most cases that both products are integrated with one another more so to replace another.

Which would be a correct statement?

If Foglight is not considered a 'Manager of managers', quest has a specific product that's who would incorporate such packages as Foglight and Netcool/Omnibus?

In this search on the web site of search I found a product called Operations Manager who seemed to do this thing though, it may be that Foglight can do that as well.

I hope that some of you in the community can comment on that.

    Thank you!

    Larry

Foglight has been in development since 1997 and has been proven as a business application and solution operating in environments of large and small performance monitoring. You can review the foglight documentation to determine the robustness of the ability of observation in edocs.quest.com

Anyone is able to change the values of the ASP for the command line (or groovy), I want to change a large number of selected agents.

A previous post talks about using asp: together, but looking at the option of the command cmd - fglcmd.sh there isn't like asp: together.
