  • Lack of folders/files-System Restore - more missing files/folders

    Hello!

I would appreciate help to find my files and folders missing if possible.

I am running windows Vista version 6.0, service Pack2.

I started windows and noticed that 5 of my office files are missing, and all files contained in. A search for the names of document and file returned nothing (even with advanced search options). One of the missing records was called "term 1". I created a new folder and tried to change the name in term 1. A popup told me this (office) file contained already a folder named "term 1" - I wanted to merge these files? I was puzzled, because I could see is no longer the original record of the term 1. I clicked 'Yes' in the hope that a merger would result in a visible folder 1 term, but now two records have disappeared. After some intensive research, I couldn't find the files/folders that were missing. I must point out that not all the files/folders disappeared.

I restored my computer to a previous checkpoint (since 2 days after a windows update). After the reboot, I got a message that the restore has failed. I remembered that this can occur because of an AV, so I disabled Norton. At this point, all of my files and folders Office disappeared, apart from the default windows desktop icons. A search gave no results. I tried to cancel the restoration, which has been a success, but none of the files/folders not returned. I then tried to do a restore to a control point from before the update of windows. This succeeded, but more folders/files have disappeared. Ouch. I can still access those appearing in the Panel of my 'recent articles', but when I try re - record, I get a warning of "the file is read-only / Normal doc.

What have I done? Can we do anything to restore my files? Curiously, a few random documents and most of the settings are still intact. I noticed that my quick launch buttons are gone if it means something.

    Any help/direction would be wonderful.

    Thanks in advance,

    Meegss

  • Double folders/files

In windows Explorer, I have a main "Documents" folder and another document folder under the main folder "downloads". In addition, under the 'C' drive 'users folder it is a same set of folders/files. It is using too much memory. What I can, (and if so, how) delete one or even two of these back up files? Remove a single subfolder in a group seems to automatically remove the same subfolder in the other two groups. Obviously, I don't want to lose the data of all three locaations.

    Hi Kat Alexni L,.

Method 1: Run the fixit available in the links below and check if that makes a difference-Worth to try

Diagnose and repair Windows files and folders problems automatically
Difficulty of broken desktop shortcuts and common system maintenance tasks

Note: FixIt would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular area.

Method 2: Start the computer in safe mode, and then check. To do this, follow the steps below:

Access Advanced Startup menu options by turning on your computer and pressing the button F8 continuously until Windows starts. In the advanced startup options select Safe Mode

    Startup options (including safe mode)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

This could be an activity of the virus,

Method 3: Run Microsoft Security scanner (MSS) to any threat and try to correct

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: Infected files can be deleted from your computer; There is a chance of data loss.

  • Why are all my folders/files in the same display format? Win. 7

A few days ago I had some folders/files in the "Détails" view, then I could get into this folder and the files/folders would be to "large icons". For some reason, all my folders/files turned to mode «Détails» If I changed the view of the "Large icons" folder, it would change just return to the 'Details' when I returned to the folder. I changed it if all folders/files are now to "Large icons", but it was so much easier having separate folders contain separate views. How can I return it to that?

I use Windows 7 Home Premium.

This article basically talks about about how take a point of view and copy to other folders, but it also explains how to do the opposite.  This also explains why the libraries do not allow this (which means that you can never have seen separate if you go to a library).

Looking for the location of your catalog in the menu help > system information. It's all the folder containing the database file catalog.pse14db.

It's easy to synchronize your catalog...

    But...

Even if the media folder tree has the same structure, which does not work and all your files will be displayed as "offline" in the catalog synchronized. The reason is that the catalogue in computer stores the location of the media files by the full path AND the identification of the drive (internal serial number). The synchronized catalog will not find files on computer B.

So, what would be your choice?

-Store your multimedia files on an external drive and plug it alternately on both computers. No need to synchronize media files; You can even save the catalog on the external drive, no need to synchronize the catalog folder either. Downside: who does not act as a backup. You can use your sync as a simple backup to restore in the drive of origin if necessary.

-According to John R Ellis, you can assign the same serial number for both drives.

psedbtool (database of the elements of Photoshop tool)

I have not tested this, but it should work.

-The good old method of backup and restore, forgetting the 'sync' is slow, but much more secure (you have two copies over a backup). The HUGE advantage is that you can easily migrate to another computer and still another version of elements, even another OS.

-My own solution requires some fiddling with the sqlite database and a good understanding of the structure of the database. I have syncs media and catalog or via Synctoy Windows files on an external drive. I create a copy of the catalog I have change in sqlite to point to the serial number of the external drive. The catalogue of the external drive and media are available to any computer with the same version of elements. The advantage of the 'synctoy' method is that it is much easier and faster than an incremental backup in the Organizer.

  • but lost folders/files can be seen in the profile

I lost files from my local server where I email storage. Use pop and it created a new file pop.xxx - 1. on my computer to store mail that I spent. The last having appeared at the beginning of the month, but does not contain links to all the previous records. How to get back the files/folders to add to them?

    Pointer to the file names.

SDB tells Thunderbird folder contains sub folder. It contains in fact as well.
MSF files are index in the mail folder. It also stores the Tags, but it's main purpose is as an index.
Files without extensions are the real mail.

Before you attempt a restore from a backup that will very likely lose something. Check that your anti-virus does not have the file in quarantine is. Pretty common that they scan with new definitions and find something for 6 months which is not a risk.

Regarding your mozbackup. To facilitate the work with it, change the ZIP file extension. then you can use it as any other Zip file. (windows will be opened like a folder in Explorer) The file you are looking for will be in exactly the same relative position in the Zip that mozbackup maintains the structure of the profile folder.

  • Change ITunes library folders files?

I want to use my folder of mp3 of network for the iTunes sync Apple device but I'm afraid that it will modify the files or folders (I currently use the copy on my laptop).

ITunes changes one of the files or folders?

    D to hinges,

Go to Edit > Preferences > advanced and make sure that the keep... and copy... are both disabled.  This will cause iTunes to use the existing copies of audio files without change or move anything.

Also, do not use the services cloud that may interfere with your library, namely music Apple or iTunes game.

As a precaution, make a backup before you start.

The range of the file IO has a function to perform an MD5 on a file.  If you want to detect the validity of a set of files, what happens if you had a list of files and md5s and then conducted an audit to see if all the files have the MD5 expected.  Of course, you will need to take a line of well known file-based and MD5s.

    Hi Oniebeme,

    • Exactly when you receive the above errors?

    Step 1

You can run the checker system files (SFC Scan) on your computer and check if it helps you to fix the aid and support question. System File Checker analyzes all immediately protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions. This command may require access to the Windows installation source files. Follow the steps below to scan SFC on your computer.

    one.

Click Start and run, type sfc/scannow, and then click OK.

    b.

Once the scan is complete, restart the computer.
Note You will need the Microsoft Windows installation CD if the scanning utility cannot find the necessary system files.

Access the link below to learn more about Scan SFC.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747

    Step 2

If scan running SFC does not help, you can create a new user account and check if it works fine without error on the user account. If the new user profile on the computer works fine, copy data from the user of the old account to the new.

You can access the link below and follow the steps in the article to create a new user account and copy the data to the new account.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/811151

    Step 3

This behavior can also occur if the computer is infected with the Virus. I would recommend torun a virus online scan.

Access the link below and check if your computer is infected with the virus and delete the same.

    http://safety.live.com

If the steps above do not help, you may need to contact the Champagne and Dell technical support if you can get a Windows XP installation disc.

  • Folders, files and programs from a folder called 'research', can I get back them?

I found a folder named "research." I looked at it and saw that can be found just about everything I downloaded. Movies, etc. I started to delete some and realized that I should not delete. Tried to recover - no chance. Half my office has disappeared, and lots of folders and files and programs are gone, I'm in a mess. Any suggestions, other than a.38?

I really hope that someone can help you. I'm at my wits end, thinking that I can't do anything. I need help. Is there anyone out there?

Also a 38 a clean reinstall is your best option.

Sometimes to try to solve the problems takes longer than a reinstall.

In addition, a resettlement gets rid of questions that your computer has.

You should have a factory restore the image on your hard drive.

With the factory restore, it is quick and easy.

If you don't factory nor manual reinstall consider buying Service Packs.

    http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/bb738089

This page will display the SP1 of Vista, under the heading: order a DVD of Windows Vista SP1, click on your region and then select your country and will take you to a page where you can buy the SP1 and SP2

Save the link and it's also for others to read this post wishing to purchase Service Packs for Vista as long download time saved and you can use them download are a problem or you reinstall your operating system.

If you later reinstall OS and you install the drivers manually install the Service Packs right after OS reinstalled before installing any drivers. You can first install the drivers but it is better Service Packs first as sometimes when you install a Service Pack after the drivers, you can find some drivers do not work and you have to reinstall these drivers.

For people using the original image, your drivers are already installed then install Service Packs just after the factory restore before installing applications or devices or download Windows updates.

Service Packs using immediately also save hundreds of download of the updates of Windows first of all that all updates to the top until the release of Service Packs are included.

  • How can I move (not simply copy) folders/files to an internal hard drive to another hard drive internal?

I just finished the construction of a new office with 2 internal hard drives: a Crucial SSD of 128 MB and a 1 TB Samsung HDD. I loaded my programs commonly used on the SSD more fast and Windows 7 (64-bit) and to use a lot more big HARD drive to store data and programs less commonly used. • Deleting VMware and all that it has associated delete folders/files Mac OS and volume virtual... correct?

    Hello world

I used the trial of VM for a bit, ran 10.8 Mac on my machine 10.9. I used CleanApp to remove the VMware application and everything that it has combined the files/folders. Wondering if this technique also removes the Mac OS that has been installed on a virtual computer and removes the virtual volume? I think I lost a lot of free space on my SSD.

    Thank you!

    John

I found this post of disk space missing after uninstalling VMware Fusion 6 and the suggested disk inventory X installed. The app found the Mac OS folder that contains the file 21 GB + virtual Disk.vmdk and the rest. (I totally forgot this file and location when I installed everything first.) Trashed the entire folder and appear to regain space lost to SSD, but I think that there are even more is lost.

The kind of wave removes the above folder that contains the virtual file Disk.vmdk below article.
