For consoles Virtual Center and VM user level access

All,

Is it possible to provide a user with access to the virtual Center and don't have rights to access a particular SMV console... ??

This is because the server is in a DMZ and no network management is provided.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Nels

You use VMware permission.

First to create Windows user (may be a local user on VC or a user AD).

Then on your virtual machine (in the authorization tab) add a role (e.g. VM user).

  • Installation of SQL Server for the virtual Center Server

    Hi all

    We bought 16 x 2 for ESX server CPU licenses.  So, I will prepare a database of virtual server of the Management Center 16 guests. As SQL Server 2005 Express is installed during installation of Virtual Center Server but VMware is recommended for use only for 5 guests.

    So I would like to prepare a database of SQL for VC server, please help me how to make the database to the virtual Center Server. Are there special tables, configuration, permissions. I have no experience with databases then how should I go with it. Is there a guide for it. The ESX Server installation guide explains only create ODBC connections.

    Please help me with this I would be very obliged.

    I know that the procedure is restrited 2 steps (1 and 2) on page 68, but you need to install and configure SQL Server for your business standard (I guess asking the C: or D: and data/newspapers on E :). I'm not going to explain better how to install SQL Server on a server. For the SQL Server database:

    • Step 1: you create a database storing the files on the right disk (with at least 30 GB) with a default database size to the size defined by the "Calculator" (value of + 15% on the line of your choice statistical level).

    • Step 2: On your Microsoft SQL Server, create a user of SQL Server database with the database rights of operator (DBO). The default database for the DBO User is that you defined in step 1. Make sure the database user has a role of sysadmin server or the role of database db_ownerfixed on the VirtualCenter database and the MSDB database. The role db_owner on the MSDB database is required for the installation and upgradeonly. This role can be removed after installation or upgrade process iscompleted.

    The user must be created for your standard business as service account (password never expires) with a long and complex password.

    Other steps in the document are for the ODBC connection.

    Creating the tables is made during the installation of VC. Nothing to do. A characteristic is not to stop the SQL Server agent because some tasks are scheduled in the database to 'compact' statistics.

    For the record, the database is upgraded when installing patches VC creating of new tables, updating of data type or...

  • Unable to access role to change the settings for the virtual Center

    Hi all

    I recently created two new roles to restrict the Active Directory in Virtual Center security group and the Resource Pool. I cloned VM Administrator role and tweaked so that this group can view full data center while being only able to create/delete the virtual machines in the resource pool. However, I can't work on what permission setting would completely restrict the role of access and changes to the "vCenter Server Settings" on the home page.

    Can someone please help?

    Virtual Center: 4.0.0 (Build: 208111)

    Thank you

    Fadi

    That sounds right.  roles and rights spread from host/cluster view for the sake of server configurations.

    If you set the role to the next level in vCenter 4 (which is the name/IP of your vCenter), they will have access to it.

    You can define a low level (data center), then define non-role or nothing at the top level.  you will need to place this permission/role on each object in the data center, you have for each of these connections.

    Kind regards

    Yes.  Follow best practices in manual and separate the DB app.  Put it on the same server are a bad idea.  Other than that, it's an operation simple pretty seemless as long as you follow the instructions.

  • DUN connection Bluetooth for Pocket PC, Vista and the user rights restricted

    Hallo,

    I managed to establish a DUN connection to my smartphone WM5 Pocket QTEK 9100 Bluetooth-based and the Toshiba Stack, latest version. My laptop is an X 200 - 21 d with Vista Home Premium.

    Everything works although I do not change the Vista user to a user with restricted rights, for the user with the Bluetooth utility administrator rights has created a new DUN connection and a new modem with a virtual COM port. The user with restricted rights is not allowed to set up a new connection, but it is necessary to connect to the smartphone with the Bluetooth utility. On the administrative account the option button to allow the connection to call other users is disabled and grayed out, so there is sort now open it up to other users.

    How can I set up a Bluetooth DUN connection for a user with restricted rights?

    Thank you in advance!

    If the user restricted use the same DUN like the Admin Setup?

    If Yes, then you can use "Bluetooth-> custom Mode settings". This allows you to
    Select the "Standard 33600 Modem" from the list that has been set up before
    the admin. So every ONE that has been configured by the administrator can be used by the
    User restricted with this method. Restricted users cannot install hardware, so
    If the administrator has not installed a modem, then also the restricted user cannot use it.

    The Admin can pre-install a modem with Bluetooth stack installation.
    This is useful if the restricted user should be able to configure a DUN connection
    with the advanced modem settings which are not used by the administrator.

    This should be possible if the file "as.ini" has a line "MODEMINST = 1".

  • Virtual Center and Virtual Machines do feed not on after outage

    Hello-

    Over the weekend, we had a power outage in our data center which resulted in the loss of power to our HP blades that make up our ESX cluster.  Power was restored after a few minutes, and fed up ESX Server, VirtualCenter, which works as a virtual machine, does not, no has yet no virtual machines.

    Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might have happened?   For storage, we have an HP EVA SAN fiber.

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated-

    Steve

    Hello.

    If electricity is cut to the complete chassis, and all went down at the same time?  "If so, you might want to look into the Virtual Machine start/stop" settings for your hosts and see if the settings are configured the way that you expect to be.

  • How can I get the number of disks for a virtual machine and PAHO are / s of a disc?

    Hi all

    I would like to know if there is a command that returns the number of disks having a virtual machine.

    and also if there is no command to obtain and change the number of the IOPS / disk s.

    Thanks in advance

    Carlos

    It will give you hard drives attached

    Get - VM | Hard drive

    It will give you count

    Get - vm | Select name, @{N = "TotalHDD"; E={($_ | (Get-harddisk).count}}

    It is possible to retrieve the number of the IOPS / disk s, but what do you mean by editing.

  • C# using Single SignOn (SSPI) for the virtual center of 2.5.0.119598

    I'm trying to use authentication using SSPI to work in my application c# passthru. Here is a snippet of code I am getting down to work.

    Returns a reference to VMware.Vim.SessionManager

    VMware.Vim.VimClient vimClient = new VMware.Vim.VimClient ();

    vimClient.Connect ("10.x.x.x," CommunicationProtocol.Https, 443);

    ServiceInstance ManagedObjectReference = new ManagedObjectReference();

    serviceInstance.Type = "ServiceInstance."

    serviceInstance.Value = "ServiceInstance."

    Sm SessionManager = new SessionManager (vimClient, serviceInstance);

    SM. LoginBySSPI (ct_b64, null);

    I get an exception when trying to call this method LoginBySSPI

    I'm not sure that it is a correct approach, but I would really like to be able to connect using single signon in my c# code, but not having much success.

    It works very well using PowerShell, but I want to be able to do it directly by using c# without using PS pipeline.

    Any suggesstions welcome.

    Thank you

    Hello

    It is normal to get this exception in the first inning. If you look at the documentation for the SDK this exception means: lifted during the authentication SSPI to negotiate.

    Scott wrote, in his position, you must call LoginBySSPI again with the return of the token to the server:

             SspiHelper ch = new SspiHelper();
             byte[] ct = null;
             byte[] st = null;
             bool cc = true;

             // Get the base64 token for the current Windows logon session.
             ch.InitializeClient(out ct, st, out cc);

             string ct_b64 = Convert.ToBase64String(ct);

             VMware.Vim.VimClient vimClient = new VMware.Vim.VimClient();
             vimClient.Connect("10.xx.xx.xx", CommunicationProtocol.Https, 443);
             SessionManager sm = new SessionManager(vimClient, vimClient.ServiceContent.SessionManager);

             bool serverNotReady = true;
             while (serverNotReady) {
                try {

                   sm.LoginBySSPI(ct_b64, "en");
                   serverNotReady = false;
                } catch (VMware.Vim.VimException ex) {
                   if (ex.MethodFault is SSPIChallenge) {
                      ct_b64 = ((SSPIChallenge) ex.MethodFault).Base64Token;
                   } else {
                      throw;
                   }
                }
             }

    Note that you can get the error returned by the server of VI of the VimException MethodFault property

  • For TMS Win2008 Server and SQL Server client access licenses?

    Where, I read that the TMSXE interface requires a CAL on the Exchange Server.  What I can't seem to locate is all information about client access licenses how are required to Win2008 R2 Server Standard Edition and SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard.  Is there a reference document that I'm missing with this information.  It seems that according to Microsofts definitions, you might need a CAL by user device and/or managed web that connects to the web interface.

    Can someone clarify the situation?

    Hello world

    So should put the closure of this thread, I have now clarified what follows when it comes to TMS and MS licenses:

    Users and administrators to connect to TMS authenticate AD, the server that hosts the TMS must be allowed to support authenticated connections. Don't authenticate TMS Managed/configure with AD devices via the web server. As a result, and as managed devices does not authenticate against IIS with AD login, these types of connections don't require licenses. Only users who connect to the Web site would be.

    The issue of Exchange and SQL are similar, that is, authenticated connections how are made?

    Of MSDS, all connections to SQL server use the same authenticated account, by default uses a SQL login.  Web site users are not authenticated to SQL Server. Therefore, and in the case of an external SQL Server, this would be equal to one.

    When communicating with Exchange, all connections are through a unique service account. Created for managed systems the mailboxes are not connected by users or MSDS for normal operation. As a result, and as with an external SQL Server, this would be also equal to one.

    Hope that clarifies completely now

    Dale

  • Virtual Server Center and HP team NIC

    I have a 2 small facilities ESX I maintain.

    One is Vsphere 4.0 and the other is 3.5u3. Both facilities have 1 physical HP 360 that contain the virtual Center and the database. We use vcb for a backup.

    The consultants who originally installed these says we should not use cards NETWORK HP pool, but never gave a definitive answer why.

    If he is allowed to use the card NETWORK HP partner to the VC Server?

    Thank you

    Jeremy

    We use the collection of NETWORK adapters and have for years and had no problems at all. (It's on physical Windows servers) - maybe they get confused physical servers and virtual machines?

  • Upgrade virtual Center 2.02 VC 2.5 on the new server. Upgrade ESX 3.02 ESX Server 3.5. and add the new ESX Server.

    Hello

    We are due to upgrade our VMWare environment. ESX 3.02 x servers virtual Center 2.02 and 3.  We have new material on which to install Virtual Center and we are also adding a new ESX Server.

    I read various guides for virtual center upgrade and watched questions on the forum, but can not see everything that relates to the way I thought to do. I want to install Virtual Center 2.5 on the new server and I would refer her to the current virtual cenre database.  Is this supported?

    I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

    Would this work.

    What is the best way to upgrade the virtual center of new material and a new Version?

    Thank you for all the advice that can be offered.

    Kind regards.

    Yes, it is an upgrade that is supported.  Don't forget there will be an upgrade for your DB schema and it may take some time.  Just make sure that you have a good backup of your DB before you start.

    I then install ESX 3.5 on my new ESX Server and add it to the virtual Center. Then I would start the upgrade / rebuild other servers using VMotion to migrate all VM the next server to be rebuilt on the new server running ESX 3.5.

    I agree entirely, I drive rebuild is the way to go.

    Upgrade to the current version using the .iso image file.  Don't forget the license server, which is a standalone update and are located in the folder /vpx of the vCenter .iso

    Upgrade path:

    1 vCenter

    2 ESX

    3 VMware Guest Tools

  • Distinguish between readers in Windows and own to lead assignment in Virtual center

    Good day to all,

    I have a few records that I want to remove a guest, what is the best way to ensure that I am deleting the good player in VC. For example if I have three labels of 150 GB with windows such as d:\ e:\ and f:\ and I want to delete e:\ how can ensure me that I am deleting the right in the CR?

    Any help will be appreciated

    Concerning

    David

    Hello and welcome to the forums.

    First go into "Change settings" for the virtual machine and select a drive as a "Hard disk 1.»  Identify the 'virtual device node' - it should be something like "SCSI (0:1) HDD 1.»  Repeat this step for each disc and record the information for each.

    Then go to Windows and launch the Device Manager.  Explore the "drives" and then get the properties for the first disc. In the "Général" tab, you should see a line similar to "Bus n ° 0, Id, target 1, LUN 0" - save this information and then select 'Volumes' tab. ""  At the bottom of this screen, choose the button "fill."  This will show you which volumes are on this drive.  Repeat for each drive.  The key is to match the number of buses and the Id of the target with what was shown in 'Change settings' for the virtual machine.

    SCSI (0:1) HDD 1 = Bus number 0, Target Id 1

    Good luck!
