  My Lenovo G510, with Qualcomm Atheros AR8172/8176/8178 Fast Ethernet Controller, almost constantly completely freezes when downloading via ethernet on Linux. In Windows 7, it works perfectly, so it's not a hardware problem. I tried various Linux distributions, 32 and 64-bit (Ubuntu 14.10, 14.04, Linux Mint Debian Edition, Fedora 20 etc.) -all behave in the same way.   Update the bios to Version 79CN50WW (V3.09) solved the problem. Now it works perfectly.

  I don't know about you, but the update to the bios may need to be executed under Windows 8 or 8.1. I ran under 8.1.
