• Under Format/paragraph - how I set default text?

  Whenever I create a message to send, after the first line of text, hit enter to jump a line, which is the double spaces. I then go to Format/paragraph and change 'Paragraph' in 'body text '. I want to "Body text" and single-spaced to be the default. Thank you.

  There is a setting for this in the dialog box Options (Preferences) of Thunderbird. In this dialog box, click the icon for the Composition, there is a checkbox in the HTML section for what the Enter key (create paragraph vs create line break).

  Help!

  I am trying to automate the search text in a file FM11 and CE marking with a specific paragraph tag. Once it is, I want to be able to search for the same string again and delete it. The research will include wildcard characters. I'm moving Word files on and bring with manual numbering of paragraphs. Thus, when they arrive, they "2.3.4.5" before paragraphs for example. I want to search all of the numbers at the beginning of paragraphs, tag all those with the appropriate para format (starting a catalog) and then remove the manual numbering.

  At this time do us it manually, using find/replace and by using wildcard search strings to find (such as '\P[1-9]*.*.*.*[0-9]', which will find all the para numbering at the beginning of a paragraph 4-digit), then using the change option to paste to paste in a paragraph of the catalog tag. Then we repeat the same search and delete the text, leaving only the tag para to the number format. It works very well, but errors can occur if the search string in set incorrectly or if the numbers are not deleted (in this case, it is found on the next search and re-labeled incorrectly).   I guess right here because I've never done this before, but... In my view, there is definitely something wrong with your mission to find the property values. The way you wrote, you are trying to assign two properties to a single table space. That's why you need to remove these two lines to make him find work, because they are replacing the FindText property apparently. Here is my proposal for how it should be:

• Format paragraph import woes...

  I may be a little rusty (nearly three years of strength of MS Wording, yuck) and a beginner with FM 9, so this can be quite my own stupidity, but:

  I have implemented a model document with paragraph styles, templates, etc. When I import the styles in other documents, I noticed that my topic paragraphs lose their automatic dialing properties (the box is unchecked, deleted from building blocks) as well as predefined settings tab. Paragraph font properties and master pages in contrast to import correctly.

  I tried to work around this problem, many shots, for example copying text into the document model, erasing all formats before import, removing any formatting of the text prior to import... Even when I paste the text in the model formats change suddenly no (obvious) reason. I need to focus on the translation and don't have time to track down the gremlins - someone out there with a clue formatting?

  Is your version of 9 fully patched?

  When I pull down the menu from the paragraph formats I see a LARGE number of them scroll down beyond my screen.  God forbid I would never choose one that begins with a letter at the end of the alphabet.  Reference to files helps a catalog window but I have looked everywhere for this mythical thing and can't find it.  If I don't find this catalogue, I can remove all of the tags that I don't need this one document without losing them permanently for all documents?  Can I set preferences for a list of new documents some of my favorites without dealing with this huge list heavy every time?

  Using FM 9.0.

  Hi, Paul:

  Paragraph, character and table format definitions are stored in each file.

  To remove the paragraph or character format catalog formats, open the catalog with the Format > paragraphs > catalogue or Format > characters > catalog, click Delete * to open the Delete dialog box, select a format by clicking on a name visible format, by navigating through the list with the arrow keys, or by typing the first letter of the name of the shape. Repeatedly typing the same initials moves in formats that start with that letter. Click on delete to 'name' the format selected for deletion. You cannot select multiple formats in the list shift + click or Ctrl + click. Click Finish to perform the actual deletion, or Cancel if you change your mind.

  Another way to open the delete format dialog box is by clicking on the delete option that appears by clicking the commands button in the paragraph, character and Table designers.

  To make sure that you do not lose the formats that you can use at another time, save a copy of the file with a descriptive name, such as "AllFormatsInTheKnownUniverse.fm." You can remove all content to do the cleaning in the file, without losing the formats. You can import a file formats to another, or a file to multiple files in a book. Google search for "framemaker import formats" without quotation marks for more information on the Adobe, using FrameMaker forums and other sources.

  * Please note that by pressing DEL to open the dialog box delete does not delete the format selected in the catalog.

  A way to eliminate all formats not used of a catalog is to use the file > utilities > create and apply Formats. WARNING: it is dangerous; Read up on it in help, and then save a copy of your file before using. You will find names of unknown format in the catalog that it creates, such as mapping Table Title and a few others; they have points of master and reference Pages.

  Better and safer that create and apply Formats are great inexpensive tools for the maintenance of the catalogues of paragraph and character of siliconprairiesoftware.com format.

  The table format catalog is visible in the table designer (Table > table designer.)

• Import format PDF (bookmarks) from one doc to another

  I have belileve the instructions in the user manual are incorrect.  Import formats PDF (bookmark definitions) to a doc to another (or a book) does not work.

  What is the help file say?

• in FrameMaker 10, how can I return the paragraph catalog Panel?

  Somehow when fiddling around in the frame, I managed to remove the paragraph catalog Panel and he disappeared forever. It is not reduced, it's just... gone. • Problems with paragraph styles in CS4?

  Let me start by saying that I recently switched from Quark, so I'm really a newbie in InDesign. I was watching videos as much as possible, but can't seem to find the answers to questions like that.

  I've been taking the old brochures that have been created in ID3 and sticky type and pictures in a new format that has been created in ID4. The new format has already created with the update fonts and other formatting paragraph styles as well.

  When I circulate in all the new type and click the style sheet, it does not change the correct font type and size, but there is in the paragraph of formats that are not updated. For example: the whole paragraph (according to the applied style) should be the book of Gotham, but even after you apply the style to it, part of it remains "BOLD" Gotham. He has been "BOLD" in the previous version of the document, but must be regular in this one.

  I can think of a few possibilities, but the I would like to write specific instructions vary from one case to another. The find/replace menu is invaluable here.   I have xml files in which paging is set using an attribute. The value of this attribute must be read and applied to the paragraph format in FrameMaker when importing xml files. I guess it must be educated according to the rules of reading writing. But how?

  To control the format paragraph with an attribute, apply format rules in ESD rather than read/write rules. You cannot copy a value to attribute to a property value, but can test specific attribute values and set a property accordingly. For example, if you have a widow named attribute and know sure that value never exceeds 10, laboriously have a rule such as:

  1. If the context is: [widow = "1"]

  Paging properties

  Widows and orphans lines: 1

  Otherwise, if the context is [widow = '2']

  Paging properties

  Widows and orphans lines: 2

  ...

  Otherwise, if the context is [widow = "10"]

  I run FrameMaker unstructured 12 and FrameMaker 11 (for use with only the heritage project files) on a Win7 PC. The chapters in my FM11 file book for guide increment a new product user normally in FM11, but something bad, after you save the formatted FM 12 FM 11 project files.
  The book file includes:
  -Product Guide Cover.fm
  -Product GuideTOC.fm
  -Product GuideLOF.fm (list of Figures)
  -Product GuideLOT.fm (list of Tables)
  -Product GuideContent.fm (chapters 1-10) - book files dialing properties: Chapter 1 (digital)
  -Product GuideIX.fm (Index) (Chapter 11) - book files dialing properties: Chapter 2 (digital)
  
  Note: The chapter headings (e.g. 1 - Introduction, 2 - Specifications and so on) in the product GuideContent.fm and GuideIX.fm files are in the format paragraph Designer like: (the Auto-Numbering Format enabled) H: < n + > \t
  However, when I update the book, the Index seems formatted as Chapter 1 instead of Chapter 11. It seems that the conversion to FM 12 messed autodial in the product file GuideIX.fm, so that the only way to increment the value would be to manually update the building blocks in the file to H: IX.fm \t H: < n + > < n = 11 > \t (which I do not). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  Hi Ran,

  It's for anyone finding the subject, given that you and I come to chat with a screen sharing...

  After watching your files, the "chapter number" are really only section numbers, with all 10 of them in the same file FM. That means that really impossible to use the <$chapnum>for many of them and the index.

  In most cases, you would be still able to use the Fm 5.0 manually counting technique paragraphs title with an indicator of the series and the counter (e.g. H:), but you also have a number of positions within blocks of text not included in the stream.

  This seems to be your address update index position correctly.

  So, the only way to get the appropriate index number is to control it manually. You have at least 3 choices:

  1. Enter it manually
  2. Manually enter the AutoNumber box for the index
  3. Enter it manually in the numbering section of the dialing properties tab.

  However, all these things are extra bandages on top of your existing bandages, and I prefer to see the problems resolved instead of the 3 'Hacks' I have provided.

  For the sake of closure, please check the question if this seems to be specific for you.

• FM 11: Import are new model existing Doc?

  We have updated our FM11 models to include a new font. Is it possible to import new police model to an existing doc to change the paragraph to the new font tags? Using import > format > paragraph Formats of the model in a chapter in the existing doc file doesn't seem to work.

  FM only stores references to the police in the catalogues. Have you checked the catalogs to see what tags use to the police defintiions after import? If these have not changed, then your import fails.
