Problem - when I try to update Windows Update (manual and automatic) I get the error code 80070490
I tried - system restore, download and pay for 'RegCure' and following the instructions on the Microsoft forum without success.
The computer was shipped with a recovery disc that has no installation to 'fix '.

Please make understandable instructions for a non-techie!Thank you
There is an article on this issue in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3ben-us%3B958044&x=10&y=4So I think that you need to reinstall the computer with the recovery disc.

Error code 80070490 searching Windows updates
original title: Code error 80070490
Hi all
I have this Windows Update icon in my tray on the right saying I need to update my computer, which is good, but every time I have try I get
"Windows could not search for new updates"
"Error Found."
"Code 80070490 - updated window has met an unknown error"
So I do not use Windows Live One Care, I use AVG Virus Protection, and it is up to date!
Help, please!
Hi ONTLLs,
The error you receive occurs if there is corruption in the manifest of component maintenance base. The only way to fix this is to do a "repair" of Windows Vista installation.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/958044/en-us
The 'repair' installation (upgrade on-site) will not affect your installed programs or data. Just make sure that you are already connected to your computer when you start the installation. Do not boot from the DVD.If the installation does not start automatically when you insert the DVD, run setup.exe from your DVD player.
- When the Setup program starts and the install now screen, click install now.
- Note When you receive the important Get updates for installation message, click go online.
- Click upgrade when the which type of installation you want? appears
Please let us know if this solves the problem for you.

My windows xp tried to upgrade with the 3.5 framework - net framework 3.5 SP1 update family (KB951847) x 86 since 07/08/09. History shows that he has failed every time. He also tried to install service pack 2 (KB948465) since 07/08/09 and has failed each attempt. When I try to check new updates, it says "windows has not can find new updates" with an error code 80070490. When I try to upgrade with the framework 3.5 service pack 1, it says "some updates were not installed" with an error code of 80070673. History shows that all other updates have been installed successfully. Please let me know what I need to do to fix this problem.

You will need to fix the OS before trying to fix the rest of your problems. If the OS is unstable, then nothing else will matter. Make sure you have backups up-to-date of all your personal stuff and know where the product keys etc in case you should reinstall. That your OS is stable/fixed you can follow instructions from PA Bear re updates of the framework.

Error code 80070490 while search/checking the Windows updates.
IHaving tried to solve a recent problem that occurs with Windows Update (error Code 80070490) I read and try different things that have been suggested on this forum. It appears after trying the SFC, there are a few problems with the registry that cannot be resolved automatically. I tried the automatic Microsoft difficulty he 50202 but that does not solve it. I tried a system restore, but there is no restore point before the update I managed successfully to do (31 October 2009). So finally, I tried the repair facility that suggest the majority of people. I've had this laptop since February 2009, and Vista was preinstalled. I have the DVD of resettlement for Vista Home Premium 32 BIT and have not added anything about myself, but when I try to do the upgrade to install it says it is disabled and that he needs at least a current version or the more recent than the version I am running. I don't see how it can be less common because it is the version that I've been running for 9 months and the DVD that I was sent with the laptop. I am now on the ideas and suggestions...
Fraser,
Well restoring factory would correct any problems if they are strictly related to software. If you do a normal upgrade to Windows 7 and the problems you are currently experiencing are the question within the registry, then it is likely that they could remain after the upgrade. Now, if you perform a Custom Installation upgrade press she will move to your current Windows directory to a new folder (Windows.old) and then it will install properly. Of course, with this option, you will need to reinstall your applications.
If you buy a copy of Windows 7 in another country just make sure that you get the correct language and that it is a valid copy. (Also check the version of Windows.) You shouldn't have any problems once you get back. Here are some links with information about Windows 7 and upgrade considerations.I hope this helps.
