I was told that Microsoft offers a free upgade to Windows Vista to Windows 7. Is this true? Thank you
No, it is not true. There was a free upgrade offered by PC factory last year, but these offers to upgrade expired many months ago.

If you find any information on how to get the upgrade, contact the PC manufacturer if you purchased an eligible PC. It is very important that you keep the form that comes with your PC purchase. Hello
There is a free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 for computers and software purchased in a certain amount of time, but which offer finished at the end of January 2010.
Before you spend your money, you should see if your computer is capable of running Windows 7.
Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your PC is ready for Windows 7. It scans your hardware, devices, programs for known compatibility issues installed, you gives advice on how to fix any problems found and recommends what to do before upgrade you.

where can I get a free copy of windows vista edition Home premium? I tried to restore my laptop without success. I think I need a copy of the installation disc so that I can reinstall it with my current product key
Hello
There's a photo guide based on the recovery of your model here...
http://www.Sony-Asia.com/support/tutorial/381906/product/VGN-fz18g
If you cannot use this method because what did your friend, your options are...
- Pay Sony for media recovery
- A base Windows installation followed by installing specific Sony drivers and software from their Web site.
If you walk down the road of the latter, I would say that, if possible, before you begin reinstalling Windows you download at least the Ethernet drivers and wireless and save in, for example, a USB key. Start your drivers to search for them (and other) here...
http://www.Sony-Asia.com/support/product/VGN-fz18g/FAQ
.. everything will be difficult to download if drivers that allow access to the internet are not native to a new installation of Windows.
Your principled stand against Sony charges for media recovery is, in my opinion, wrong. As I already said twice...
If Sony did not provide recovery media that they have provided the means to create them
If you lost or do not burn them and messed up your recovery partition, it's not for lack of Sony.
My serious recommendation is to accept a fee of Sony for the recovery media. It will make life much simpler for you. For this reason alone, it is probably useful tax, especially considering that you're obviously not a user advanced. Otherwise, why ask the help of a friend and ask for help on this forum?
I suspect that the links I've seen on this website are actually only valid for Windows 7 media images. If you do not buy the recovery media and go with an iso image download Vista Home Premium, I have to warn about the following...
- The legality of this is, at best, questionable
- If it's not genuine Microsoft media you might end by in an even bigger mess (if it works at all)

Is there a free Windows 7 upgrade if I already bought Windows Vista?
original title: Hello,.Why should I buy a new copy of win7. When I have already paid for win vista Home premium? to upgrade because you guys can't stand anmore... I shouldn't get a free upgrade from vista to win7...? I don't want to be feel obliged to pay just that my computer will function normally.
Thank you. I really need feedback - or I missunderstood - should I use same win vista edition Home premium... to install the upgrade - sorry - to win7?There was actually a free upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista, however, he offered a few years back (June 26, 2009 to January 10, 2010). In this case, for you to be able to upgrade to Windows 7, you would need a Windows 7 Upgrade disk.
However, you really do not need to upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista is supported until 10/04/2012. You can refer to the link below for more information.

Windows Vista SP1 laptop computer upgraded to Windows 8.1 / 10 Windows
Hello!
A long time ago (7 years probably) supplied with Windows Vista Home Basic x 86, we bought a laptop Toshiba Portege M800. I plan to upgrade to Windows 8/8.1/10, but I don't know if it will work. Here are my specs.
Hello
We cannot tell you that you can definitely improve 8.1 or 10.
We provide only the information on the system requirements. Then, it is yours for a search.
And they're both done with a clean installation (no upgrade path) and they are not free.
Do the following before upgrade you to Windows 8.1.
Check if the manufacturer of your computer/laptop has Windows 8 drivers available for your model.
If this is not available, Windows 8/8.1 not install and work properly for you.
There is a lot of information in this first link from Microsoft:
Download and run the Windows Upgrade Assistant 8.1 of to see if your machine is compatible Windows 8.1 and read the update for Windows 8.1: FAQ here

"8.1 for Windows system requirements.

Yes, it is said that in the title. I want to reinstall them and upgrade. If I buy and download the upgrade windows 7 will there be an option to wipe the hard drive and delete the partitions?
Hi NoahFrank,
No, you will not get an option to erase hard disk or delete partitions during the upgrade of your operating system. However, you will get this option during custom installation.
Formatting your hard drive during a custom installation of Windows 7 permanently erases everything on the partition that you put in the form, including your files, settings and programs.
