Free iNodes on filesystem ESXi

What is the impact of not having enough free inodes on my filesystem esxi?

How this problem is corrected?

How often should I check for this condition?

Not having enough free inodes can result in ESXi host appears disconnected from the vcenter. Duncan Epping has a post related to the inode.

    Hello

Yes, you can install vCenter license-free, since it will take place for the 60-day trial. I free ESXI host cannot be managed by vCenter, if it will not mimic your production http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1018275 plant

  • ESXi 4U1 - partition root out of space, no free inodes

    Hello guys,.

After update of our vCenter 4.0 Update 2, one of our servers has shown as disconnected in vCenter. All of our guests had their agents vCenter updated and reconfigured HA, but this one fails.

After checking the related KBs of VMware, I noticed that the host a-126 M left in the / partition and executing stat f / it shows that I gave a negative amount of inodes.

All the other guests have the exact same hardware and config (we use the host profiles).

I tried to check in/tmp/vmware-root/var/cores and those that are empty. I also tried to restart the services with services.sh restart. I tried to uninstall the agent, vpxa with the .sh provided without result.

The last thing for me to try is to reboot the host, but this is currently not an option (cannot evacuate VMS running on another host) and I would consider it as a last resort.

Any ideas why / filled or watch a negative value as available? How can I clean the partition?

    Thanks in advance.

Sylogs are normally stored on the partition from scratch. Not on the root partition.

    I can't ghettoVCB.sh to run on free ESXi v4.1.

How can I solve this please?

In case someone else gets the same problem - I finally worked it out.  ESXi 4.1 update 3 do not have the latest version of ghettoVCB.sh.  I guess the version of bash in the console busybox is old and does not support the syntax of some of the improvements made to the script.

I managed to get an older version of the MKSbackup script and it works fine.

  • Reinstall the free version of VMware ESXi

    Hello world

It probably is really stupid question, we have a spare Dell break and it has the free version of ESXi installed on it... can I re - install the free version and win another 60 days with her trail?

Any information would be greatly appreciated...

    Hello world

Finally managed to re - install the ESXi, down from GParted live disk and deleted volumes and reinstalled ESXi ESXi again... There must be an easier way to do this, can not believe the ESXi installer doesn't have an option to format hard disks and reinstall from scratch once again... surely, Miss me something here that is, once someone has installed ESXi There is no easy way for someone else to come along and reinstall the software to access all the features for 60 days...   Sounds crazy

  • Console free hypervisor-based Web ESXi 5.5

I just downloaded the free version of ESXi 5.5 to begin to evaluate against the 5.1. Reading, VMware is moving to a web console only, with the native client only for "emergency access" to the host (why everyone goes to web consoles? they tend to be more problematic than native consoles...).

With the free version, how are you supposed to get the Web Console? It is referred to as the download saying vSphere client: "Note: vSphere Web Client can be installed using the installer of the vCenter server ', but it is not available when you sign up for the free version." So if you have the free version, which is the right way to get the web client, and what you're supposed to install on? If the web console will now be required to access the new features of the hypervisor, maybe VMware should consider providing unit vCenter with the free version, the paid options disabled, of course.

I think that this topic is covered in the KB article:

Changing the settings of the virtual machine fails with the error: you cannot use the vSphere client to change the settings of the virtual version 10 or higher machines (2061336)

  • free license of VMware ESXi 4.1

I downloaded and installed ESXi installable iso 4.2 file, then installed. Later, I downloaded and installed the VIclient 4.1, when I login to my account at vmware, I see a key for ESXi 4.1, but I can't find is it possible to install/assign the key or on the server or the vclient, I always use the licnese assessment. Although the site indicates clearly that ESXi is free, and customer vShere can be used for free to manage a single server to the time, but I can not just replace the evaluation with the free license.

  • Reclassification of ESXi 3.5 u4 free on USB to ESXi free 4.0 on USB

    Hi people:

If I'm looking to upgrade ESXi 3.5 u4 free on a key USB to ESXi 4.0 is the process as simple as install ESXi 4.0 on a different USB via the Installer (I saw that he now allows to install directly on a USB key) and then restart with the new USB?  The new version will find all virtual machines and configuration data that is on the hard drive of the target system?  Obviously I would need to backup my VMs and other things in the data store, first of all, just in case something went wrong, but I wanted to check it would be the general way to do.  Also, I know that I have to re - enable SSH and copy on the SSH keys and others of version 3.5, but I was really interested whether the new version on a USB would be the store of data on hard drives without difficulty.  Finally, once done can I revert to the version 3.5 (by reversing the USB key), or version 4.0 makes a sort of changes in the data that are not compatible with 3.5 store?

    mudtoe

The data store will not be a problem, but the upgrade of equipment would be. If you do not convert to version 7 of material, you should be fine.

  • Free license for Esxi 6.0 Cisco custom ISO

    Dear all,

Is it possible to get the free license for Esxi 6.0 custom cisco ISO? or what can I use standard 6.0 for Cisco 6.0installation custom Esxi Esxi free license key?

I could find the free license only for Esxi 6.0 standard image customized Cisco.

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the community,

Cisco and other hardware providers offer ESXi images customized to support their equipment. However, the customization is made by adding/replacement drivers and tools. The base is still the same original VMware image. There is no specific license provider.

  • Can I have a free server backup or extra esxi 5.5, as a backup to my other server host free esxi 5.5?

    Hello.

I have a server free single esxi 5.5, operation of the virtual machine from one storage device shared iSCSI.

Where it breaks down, can I have a free host of alternative esxi 5.5 manually that lights up, and start the virtual machine to this shared storage server? Sort of a manual of high availability?

Yes, it should work, assuming that the ESXi version is the same (i.e. hardware version of the virtual machine is supported by the two hosts).

As long as you don't try marketing the virtual machine of these two hosts at the same time, you should be fine in a VMware perspective.

However, please keep in mind that - according to the physical hardware - it might be possible that, for example, Windows requires a reactivation.

  • No more free ESXi?

    Hello!

I thought the ESXi Hypervisor was free, so I downloaded ESXi 5 and installed on a server rack-HP-.

The only way to manage a guest operating system is to install the vSphere Client and he says it's only a test 60 days.

I thought maybe it is the customer who is on triel vSphere, but when I look at the ESXi, he also says "trial".

Y at - it a sort of free ESXi or should I buy?

Without the vSphere Client, how to manage comments-OX? In CLI?

    RS

It is only valid for vCenter.

You must follow the instructions for a stand-alone article KB André related license host:

To allow a standalone ESXi 5.x (vSphere Hypervisor):

    1. Connect to the ESXi host with vSphere Client.
    2. Click the Configuration tab.
    3. Click licensed features in software.
    4. Click change in the appearance under the license tab.
    5. Select assign a new license key at this host.
    6. Press enter and enter the license key.

  • Migrating from 5.0.0 free ESXi / ESX 4.1.0 a local database to bought ESXi 4.1.0 with SAN

We currently have four host servers.  Two host servers are the free version of VMware ESXi 5.0.0 and ESX 4.1.0.  I have two hosts in a cluster, obviously with the version under license and running VMWare VCenter ESXi 4.1.0 running.

All of these guests have all (vmdk files etc.) data stored locally on the host servers.  I'll be migrating to a new SAN and buy under license of VMware.

I need to move the virtual hosts free version VMware servers (5.0.0 ESXi / ESX 4.1.0) to the cluster host ESXi 4.1.0 under license.  I can export the folder containing all the files and import it on the cluster license.  Once records are there, how can I activate the servers of records and pull up?

I have to get off these hosts old existing virtual servers on the new servers which we you place your order.

In this case I the new environment configuration and then for example use VMware Converter to migrate (V2V, with the virtual machine is turned off) the virtual machine of the former hosts in the vCenter Server environment allowing you to select the target storage.
