  You changed the resolution to a setting that your monitor is unable to cope with. You should first try a loading in the "last known good configuration" and if it does not, then you should do a safe mode system restore back before you changed the resolution settings. MCDST

  The error you see on the SIM not supported is indicative of the device being locked to another carrier SIM card that you provide to. I suggest you check that with your friend and see if this device has been locked to another carrier. Could be called Apple, but all they could do was tell you what carrier of the device is locked to Apple do not unlock phones. Once find you the carrier, you need to contact and see if provide unlocking services, and if they do, see if you qualify to unlock. Once again, your best first call is to the friend you bought it from.

  It turned out that ActiveX controls on the form (specifically the Microsoft Common Controls 6.0 Toolbar), caused the failure.

They said that I need to plug one end of the IR Blaster cable that shipped with the computer in a slot in the back of my computer (they told me which slot). They said so to run the IR all the way cable to my cable box and the other end of the cable to my cable box of band. They said it was necessary to be able to use my Microsoft Remote to instruct the box to change channels (cable IR stuck on the box). I told her that I did not use the Microsoft Remote, I could change the channel with my U-verse remote (that I preferred to use anyway). He said that it took the cable on the band decoder in order to remove the error message and the installation of Windows Media Center.
