Frozen to the advanced Vista Start Menu

I have a Dell Inspiron E 1705 with Widows Vista.  When I turned on my laptop is said that he had to check the hard drive, unless I hit a press any key to jump.  I have the laptop to go forward and while checking the disc, it becomes disconnected and power loss.  Anyway, whenever I turn it on, the Advanced menu now appears but any option I have chosen results in a black screen appears with the laptop, do a small humming noise as if he works on the subject, but nothing seems to happen.  I bought a Windows Vista recovery disk and it allowed me to copy all the files on a hard drive, but I can't get Vista to run.  I would like to reinstall Vista, but I do not have the installation diskettes.  I don't know what to do.

Hello

Use the Dell Diagnostics Options, including the F12 a (step 3).

http://support.Dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/KCS/document?docid=DSN_343119&isLegacy=true

And IF the hard drive is OK, here's how to reinstall Vista from the recovery Partition.

See you soon.

So, I turned on my computer today and clicked on the start menu, I expanded the tab all programs and was shocked to see that it was empty. I don't know how to get to the Defrag disk or cleaning disc or one of these things without it. Help, please!

A plus for you to try.

    It still happens today. Yes?

Why not do a system restore.

Choose 2 days ago, or a date then your list of all the programs worked as your restore point.

    Original title: Vista Start Menu

Hi, this is my first post, so I hope someone can help.

I recently did a load of hole of updates on my pc of the friends, running Vista Home ultimate.

Since I did, when I click on the start menu, the left side is empty and it wasn't like this before.

Does anyone have ideas, what may be the problem?

I would propose a system restore or a malware scan.

    Someone else had this problem?

    > When I press the touch pad to select something sometimes the Vista start menu comes up

I think it is nothing unusual, because the area touchpad or corners can be configured to randomly.
I recommend that you check the touchpad configuration and if you want to disable some annoying features or elements.

The configuration of the touchpad should be found in the control panel-> mouse-> properties or advanced control.
I do not exactly remember the way where to find these options.

  • Vista Start Menu problems

This is similar to the problems of others on the Vista Start Menu and the taskbar. I looked at the answer, tried to do, but it is already on the "'Start Menu" look, with the "Classic Start Menu" unchecked. "

He remains in the classic style. Even the scrollbars, windows and Microsoft Paint Program file have a look outdated. In fact, everything, but my Google Chrome browser is outdated, even if the scroll bar is white and square.

I love my computer and what she looked like before. This has happened after that my laptop has suffered a systematic update. I leave my laptop rest and waited to reconnect. The first I noticed was the Start Menu obsolete, white square and unpleasant. Another thing I noticed, it was a bubble of a word on a system event Notification. I don't know if it plays a role in this dilemma.

I want just the Start Menu of Vista to look like a Vista Start menu.

    Hi MLD1990,

Step 1: start by checking the event notification to know what could have happened.

    See the links below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/open-Event-Viewer

Step 2: this could also be a problem with the themes, you can try to change to a different theme (Vista's Aero theme) and then check out.

For more information, see the links below:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-desktop-theme

Step 3: you can also check the recently installed updates to know what could be the cause.

    Hope this information is useful.

    Hello

    1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?

Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1:

I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.

    a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
    b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
    c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
    Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    Explorer.exe

    d. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.

    Step 2:

Test the issue in a new user account.

  • How to remove the search box in the Windows 7 Start Menu?

I'm a guy from keyboard. Encoder, mudder. Therefore, I prefer my Start menu for user-friendly keyboard, which includes the removal of the search box as the focus of pigs. I can't find this option in the control panel to the taskbar and Start Menu. I lack, or it is impossible to get the classic Windows, looking for the start menu?

I forgot on the thing... If you want to remove the search box, try this: start > Control Panel > programs > Turn Windows features or disable > uncheck Windows Search

    ...

I said that you can press Tab... wrong... you must press SHIFT + Tab.

    ...

About to express my opinion - there is a simple reason why I do this. Some time ago, someone asked how to remove the search box, and it received no response for a few days. After that, I found this option, how to remove... When I said on this subject after a few days, I heard that this person used to this new feature of Windows and now it will keep it. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong... this system differ only from XP... so we have to try to learn something new and check after a few days we don't like this solution more than the previous.

    ...

I wonder why write you in commentary edition which has pasted the link almost not worth it. You will get exactly the same behavior of Menu start as in Windows XP. I thought that you, like this old solution... "Pinning just something that mimics the classic style"... No... you have clicked on the first link... you should read more prudent. There was also another. But even if you have selected the first solution with menu PIN... I guess you don't know that you can run all the pinned programs by pressing the Windows key + number... for example, WinKey + 1, so that each action is made without a mouse.

My Start menu does not open when I click on it. It also won't work when I press the windows button. The only way to get the start menu to open is to change the menu to Classic view. Help, please!

You can restore the start menu original, default settings.

    2. click on the tab Start Menu and then click Customize.

    3. in the Customize the Start Menu dialog box, click use the default settings, and then click OK.

If this does not work, you can create a new user account and see if it helps.

    3. click on create a new account.

4 type the name that you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click create an account.

Icons or shortcuts should be in this folder:

If they do not exist, just recreate them. Click on file/new/shortcut and the disk cleanup are a path to:
