Frustrated by Windows 7 and. DBX files

Why my Windows 7 can't open .dbx on an old hard drive that comes from a computer that is running Windows XP and Outlook 6? The transfer does NOT work. I should find someone who is still under Windows XP. I could so see my e-mail address?

Copy the Outlook Express folder to the desktop of the new machine. In Windows Live Mail, point to this folder and import. The records must show under storage folders in WLMail. I do not use WLMail, so if you have any questions after importation, please discuss in the forum WLMail.

I have windows xp and you can't play a mp4 file.  All ideas/solutions?

There are many types of mp4 files, you need to know which codec made those you want to play and then install the codec for it.

If it came from a camera, you can find the disk contains the codec you need, or can help ensure that you have the latest version of quicktime.

Otherwise, use avicodec to find out what it is, then look for the manufacturer of the codec, I recommend to install the codec packs.

  • Windows 7 and xp file sharing: accessible files, others not

I have a desktop Windows 7 (Ultimate x 64) which share several folders to other computers, mainly under XP (Home). This is pretty typical and I'm not having any problem setting this up, it was already setup and works well so far.

However, I recently added a new sharing folder of the Windows 7 computer. What I find is that some of the files in the folder are accessible, and some are not. It is unusual because generally I see that the file is accessible, it is not, but never a few things inside. I would say half the files are accessible, and half are not.

When you try to access some files, I get the message: "file not found". Yet, I see all these files when displaying the list in Explorer directories. This could be the cause?

I tried to remove the share on the Windows 7 computer and recreate from scratch. By doing this, it fixes some of the files that were previously inaccessible, so they become accessible, but other files are inaccessible.

Solving the problems of shared folders

Open the Troubleshoot shared folders utility by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooting, and then click Troubleshooting. Under network and Internet, click access shared files and folders on other computers.

You did a backup before starting to update?  If so we can help restore you.

From the looks of it (the 3 windows.old files) you have tried this at least 3 times.

Is there something in the windows of old files?

  • Problems with Windows search and PDF files

Server 2008 R2, the client is Windows 7.  I store invoices in digital format PDF in one hand.  The server took to the index folder and its contents, added the last addition to Adobe pdf, but if I search documents for words I know are there, nothing is found.  In another post, it was suggested to ensure that the system was in the full access permissions list.  I have the server to remove and rebuild the search index, everything has not helped.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have this problem on my own.  Do NOT access through dfs.  Go directly to the server.  In our case, \\harry.com\AR\invoices won't work not, but \\Apollo\AR\invoices doesn't.  It's as simple as that.

  • Windows patches and version files system web site

    Hello

As I'm troubleshooting various problems, I want to know if the current version of a file system on my system has been patched already by a hotfix.

I'm pretty convinced I used such a site [Microsoft if I remember correctly] a few months ago.

I enter the name of the dll and obtain different versions / the latest available at the time.

Can someone remind me of the address of this site [or if it is a must in my mind]?

    Thanks in advance

    Bruno

I'm not familiar with a reverse like this search.  But if you know the hotfix KB number, you can open the properties of that Web site and lists the versions of the DLL that it could have installed, which you can compare to your own computer to see if you are updated.

  • Windows Server 2008 and CHM files

    HR 7, HTML

Accompaniment of the victim has a customer you are trying to view .chm files in Windows Server 2008. They went ahead and tried the registry fix from the 'normal' to view chm on a network files, but that does not solve the issue.

My understanding is that chm files cannot be seen at all in Windows Server, but thought I would check - is it possible to view chm files in Windows Server 2008?

    Thank you

    -Jeff

    Jeff,

I don't think that something has changed in Windows 2008 and .chm files are certainly visible in this version of Windows. However, it may be that the customer needs to tinker with the security settings in Internet Explorer to make the visible distance .chm files. See this article for more details:

To ensure that correct registry changes are made, the customer could try making them with free HHReg utility. It is available here:

  • Access to the OE 6 dbx file recovery

I just opened OE6 and noticed that over a third of my local files dbx are missing.  They appear in the box of identities, however.  This happened after OE my files compressed the previous night.  I also just learned that the OE has a 2G file size limit.  My total files 3.1 G, but this has never been a problem in the past.  OS is XP.  Can someone give me some gudance?  Thank you.  Mary

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :
    http://www.insideoe.com/FAQs/why.htm#compact

    Recovery methods:

If you are running XP/SP3, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Note: If you have new messages in the folder you are go restore, move them to a folder first created user, or they will be lost. They can be moved once the old posts have been restored.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently.

  • Lost emails and local files

During the use of Microsoft Outlook Express, an arisen window which I think has suggested compaction emails in order to free space disk. If it's connected I don't know, but then, I lost all the contents of the Inbox, Outbox, sent, drafts, sent messages and deleted items and all local folders other than those that start with the letters A, B and C & - someone help me as to how I can locate the missing files and emails or have they been permanently deleted?

I think as the backup of your e-mail (not not to mention your entire system), is a better solution than to wait for something to happen. No operating system or e-mail client is not protected from data loss.

N ° Microsoft has no such program, that's why I wrote DBXpress and DBXtract.  DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) is very fast on such a large file, and will get all the messages inside.  DBXtract will be too slow and imprecise.

The future of its best to keep the dbx file size down to below a few hundred megabytes.  Otherwise, the system is slow and dbx files get very sensitive to corruption and the loss of the message.
