Full VM data recovery or just snapshots?

Hi people,

I'm really in doubt on this subject.

I started a job to backup with approximately 20 virtual machines, and after a while, when it finished I checked the ocupied backup size. Then I surprised because the size of the entire backup was only 64GB, and the storage space total occupied by all virtual machines is about 1 TB.

So, how can I do a full backup vm?

Example/Question: If I lost the entire data store where my vm running (one really disaster), I can restore my vm with data recovery (with backups stored in the other data store)?

Kind regards

sm4rtins.

I don't know what help I can be, because my main experience with VDR is full of episodes of frustration. It could have been a reasonable product, but it seems to be deliberately crippled, and although version 2 is much more stable than the 1.x version (we meet only a few points of restore damaged about once a month or more, and not twice a week), it's always make us nervous.

The only thing I would say is that we use fast SAN storage for destinations. VDR doesn't seem to be sensitive to the speed of disk I/O, and my assumption is that we get a restore point damaged when the disk i/o on the SAN is high (the SAN is shared with about 40 virtual machines and several physical servers that use for cluster storage databases). We do not have the data to back up this hypothesis (still trying to get a handle on how I'd get I/O stats to prove), but I don't see what it might be (other than the product being simply bugged, which might be the case).

Could you move your store of destination from NFS to a fast SAN, just to see if the error rate?

[See data recovery? below.] With regard to the new replacement unit 1 TB, I don't have recovery discs (my bad) and can get a USB bootable HP for $30 in 5 days.  But if I will Windows 10 in any case, would it not easier to simply direct that, assuming that I can download from the MS site?  Is this possible or do I have a valid Windows installed before 'upgrade '?  I have the serial number of windows etc. since it is a 64-bit licensed machine Win 7 legit bought new at HP.  There cpu: AMD Phenom II X 4 830 (D) 2.8 GHz and 6 Gig of RAM. From W10 v1511 that you do not have to enter a key when it is stored in the bios, W10 will find that during the installation, so you can just go right to the 10 and spend 8 installation.

    Even if it is not stored in the bios, you can enter a product key valid W7 orW8 during installation of W10 and he will accept it.

  • Help to remove the partition on a hard drive and data recovery

    I have two hard drives in my PC, the C: drive is 80 GB, and the F: drive is 120 GB.  The second drive (120 GB) is divided into two partitions.  I just deleted the partitions and makes the hard drive again in a single disc, however I had some important files on the F: drive that I thought I had copied to the C: drive but they are not there.  Is there anyway that is using the software I can return the drive to two drives and recover my data, please help

    Hello

    First of all, do not use the hard drive. This can make things sunk. A few things may already be unrecoverable. I would even delete the drive letter to stop inadvertently automated processes to use.

    There are two ways I can think of.

    1. buy a partitioning software disk that supports the undelete partition. On windows XP PartitionMagic was a very good product if symantec will still sell it. Given that Symantec has continued to develop, I had to switch to product partition Paragon. Sound was trash to some things, cloning in particular a double boot with loads of partitions - it has an undelete function which I didn't use. The fact that you have created a new partition could mean that the restoration may not work. You may need to delete the current, probably empty, partition everything first and then perform the restoration.

    2. buy a data recovery software that will scan the hard drives, including the unpartitioned space. I chose R-Studio and it was very good stuff even recovery from hard drives that fail. It was not 100% effective, but it is perhaps down to the severity of failure rather than the product. In situations like yours, it was very effective.

    Please mark this as useful or response if applicable.

    Someone else knows Netflix not being is not able to connect?  It started yesterday (30/12/2009) for me.  I looked fine the day before without problem.  The message I get says "there was a problem of data recovery.  Check the works of your internet connection and try again. Ok.  I make it work with both my VMC - one with the service pack and the other without.  My OS updates have been loaded in early December, so I don't see how this could it be.  I searched and found this problem has come up before, but I have not found a solution.  I made NO changes to my HTPC.

    Those who have and solved this problem.

    2009-01-05 has attempted to start Netflix this morning and you know, it works on both my VMCs.  That's the good news.  So now the real questions are:

    Only 20 people reported it as a problem and only 6 on the green button.  I believe that it affected all the world with Media Center.  So why not discussed much?

    It already happened, causes a stir and silently slips without known cause or cure.  How can we find out what caused this and how to prevent it from happening again in the future?

  • Options of data recovery for crashed HARD drive

    My friend HARD drive gone bad. She has not saved. She has her thesis on it (any resemblance to characters from the fictional movie, living or dead, is coincidentalt. "It's true).

    I know there are options to recover the data. But I'm not familiar with all of them and how much they cost.

    One of her friends which is a network administrator, and continued his studies of masters in computer security will attempt to recover the data for it. I fear that it may just try to boot from a CD and try to read the data, which can worsen the damage.

    What other options does have?

    Thank you

    If it crashed, she may need data recovery specialists.

    These are some $$$.

    You can read this:

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html

    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
    Download the Vista software from the link above.
    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
    See you soon.
  • Netflix in WMC «there was a problem of data recovery...» »
    I installed the latest round of updates (Ultimate) of Windows Vista and it apparently burst Netflix in WMC.  Now, I get the error:
    "There was a problem of data recovery. Make sure your internet connection is working and try again. »
    Internet works on the machine.  I reinstalled Silverlight (v4) and Netflix for WIndows Media Center.
    How to diagnose and repair the problem?
    Thank you!
    Keith...
    Sorry for the delay, but I've been busy (in my free time) trying to get this to work.
    I gave up trying to resuscitate MCE and installed a brand new Windows Vista Ultimate Edition with Service Pack 2.  After apply all WIndows patches and installation of Silverlight, I have the "Netflix" element in MCE.  He invites me to install, what I'm doing.  However, every time I start MCE and go to Netflix, he tells me to do reinstall - no login screen.
    I tried all the "mcupdate" article and then supported your steps above, but no go.
    I did this twice, so it wasn't just a fluke.  Apparently, the part of Netflix to MCE is not detect the plug-in that it installed.
    Any thoughts on what to do then?
    Thank you again...
    Keith...
    Later: I ran "mcupdate" after the steps you suggested, and now Netflix is gone again!
    Later: same problem on my other computer running MCE and Vista.  I don't want to mess up this computer so I left as what.
    Later: opening of a new post on problems become Netflix to work with a clean install.
  • Help! Data recovery!
    Hi all
    My laptop was working fine when suddenly it became very slow access to the data for a couple of days. The next Win7 has not loaded up. Now I can't even the Dell BIOS screen upwards and the course when I turn it on. Just a black screen (is powered but).
    I thought that it would be a software problem or a virus, so I brought a small repair shop. The guy said that when he connected the HARD drive up to his machine, he makes noises and he couldn't access my data. He said that I should replace the HARD drive and to recover my data, I could send the HARD drive damaged in a laboratory where they could use their spare parts instead of those damaged to perform the data recovery for me, but it would cost around HKD$ 5,000 (USD$ 650).
    This sounds a little expensive. I recently bought an external DRIVE to backup drive and had not saved all my files at this point. My Dell warranty missed just after it happened so I don't have the chance to call on this subject. If anyone knows of any company that will perform the recovery of data on my HARD drive (or Dell will do it for a lower price), please let me know: I am desperate at this point!
    Thanks for taking a peek
    Wes
    Data recovery is very expensive.  The price is relatively cheap compared to the prices I saw here in the United States.
    It's lesson on the conduct of periodic backup on an external device.
    Dell, to my knowledge, offers no service recovery.
  • Failure of hard drive on HP laptop DV 6000 Pavilion Windows XPsp3 OS - need help data recovery
    Failure of hard drive on HP laptop DV 6000 Pavilion - need help data recovery
    HP Pavilion DV 6108 NR, RG365UA, purchased late 2006 at best buy, with Windows XP, upgrade to Service Pack 3. It has a Fujitsu 60 GB HDD partitioned into C: and a D: Recovery.
    Windows tries to start, but goes to a blue screen with the message: "Unmountable Boot Volume" for a second, then just guard recycling until I force a shutdown.
    Phoenix BIOS, hard drive test result: "Fail #1-08".
    I ran a program to drive on the Cdrive analysis/recovery and it seems to show the directory structure intact, and he was able to recover some files. I used the free Seagate (which only retrieves the small files). The second pass only works so well and in the third set as the program says that I should not go further, and I need to contact a professional drive recovery company.
    However, drive D seems to be intact, so I wonder if the disc is damaged or just one aspect of the logical drive C is bad.
    How can I get the D: to run recovery on it software? The recovery discs, made by Best Buy, just proceed to the R / F / Q option screen, and when I press R, I get a blue screen every time.
    Pressing the F10 key at startup bothers me nowhere. Ditto the key F11.
    I don't like hard disk; This is the data (files, documents, images, etc.) that I want to.
    I contacted HP to order recovery disks, but they are no longer available for my computer.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 failed drive and data recovery
    I own a HP Pavilion Media Center m8350f PC witch came with a 750 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 internal hard drive model #ST3750630AS.  After about 3 months, the system didn't recognize the hard drive.  Having initially contacted HP tech support in December, they told me to send the PC to them for hard drive replacement.  They were unable to diagnose anything other that the drive had failed.  Yet I have to send it, because I know that the drive works, it's just that it is not recognized by my system.  I need a car access.  No replacement drive.
    I discovered recently, Seagate press release that they shipped a defective lot of readers with firmware.  In their initial press release, they stated:
    "We believe that the vast majority of customers are no disruption related to this issue, and that concerned readers can be used as is. But as part of our commitment to the satisfaction of the customer, Seagate offers a free upgrade of the firmware to respond proactively products likely to be affected. This new update fixes compatibility problems that have occurred with the download of the firmware provided on our Web site on 16 January. We regret any inconvenience that firmware problems have caused to our customers... " In the unlikely case where your drive is affected and you can not access your data, the data still resides on the disk and there is no data loss associated with this issue."
    Now that the real problem has been identified, what alternative support is available from HP at this topic?  HP will push their provider, Seagate, to extend this offer to the customers of HP?  Can HP unlock these discs?  The average consumer cannot ' of the Nations United-brick ' these readers with the new firmware and I guess, it's relatively easy for Seagate (i365) data recovery company to manage.
    Bottom line: based on my understanding of the problem, readers have not suffered loss of data, they are stuck in a 'busy' State and must be unlocked.  This is a critical point, because I believe that no one really cares to know if they get a new drive.  They want to only be able to access their data and awaken the drive is all it takes.
    My previous post was the original incorrect announcement of Seagate Barracuda chess.  The message I pasted was monitoring them upward.  The correct statement is below:
    "We offer free data recovery, because the drive information is not deleted. He's just made inaccessible by this suspect firmware,"spokesman of Seagate Michael Hall.
    Seagate said it has reissued the firmware originally proposed last Friday, saying: he has isolated the bug in the firmware in a "limited number of Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives with the SATA drives based on this platform of products, manufactured until December 2008. "In some circumstances, data on hard drives can become inaccessible to the user when the host system is powered on," Hall said.
    "Although we believe that the vast majority of customers are no disruption related to this issue, as part of our commitment to the satisfaction of the customer, Seagate offers a free upgrade of the firmware to respond proactively products likely to be affected", he added.
    When I try to display the folder "templates", under the 'Virtual Critetre' folder under 'respect' for the vCM console section, it does not display models.  The status bar at the bottom says "data recovery" indefinitely.  Anyone seen this before?
    Most of the other files are not either.
    attached screenshot
    This is normally due to have messy stop a client system. Bad data gets cached in an XML file that is used to track the filters of the user on the nodes.
    A workaround is to connect to the VCM by using a different URL (for example the IP address instead of the computer name), or FULL domain instead of the short name. This works because the data cached by IE are associated with the URL.
    In many cases, this can be corrected by deleting the user cached data. To do this, quit all instances of Internet Explorer, and then delete the whole UserData, or four randomly-named subfolders beneath him. (The C:\Users\[user name] \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UserData). Note that most of this path is system and hidden, so you will need to change attributes or explore view settings and run "As Admin", in order to see and delete the folders.
    A more extreme challenge is to remove the affected user profile (computer Properties\Advanced system Settings\User Profiles\Settings...). Deleting profile removes the data cached in IE (like many other things, like office customizations, etc.).
    Newspapers say it all: "26/07/2012 10:23:19: independent labels 'vm-153." "" [datastore1] vm1/vm1.vmdk "unsaved."
    This VMDK is configured as independent VMDK, independently discs are "made not snapshot ' type of drives and because of this VDR will not back up these disks.
    First of all you need to know why this drive is configured as apolitical, apolitical fashion isn't really necessary then stop VM and remove "Apolitical" mode option of this hard drive in the hardware configuration of the VM.
    There was a question if the readers to all virtual machines 'Independent', would work "VmWare Data recovery?
    I'm not sure about my discoveries. SO please don't take this as a solution to your problem. My conclusions are:
    When you start to take a vDR of backing up a virtual computer that is configured with an independent record, it will not be successful. As vDR is used to take a snapshot in order to perform the backup of a virtual computer. If the capture is here, Independent disks prevents taking snapshot.
