I just got my new shiny Server Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD from Apple (Yes, it was $19.99 and I got on the phone, the operator of chat on the apple online store did know about this).

I downloaded the trial version of vmware fusion 5.0.2 and tried to install. He always stops raise a screen saying:

    INSTALLATION FAILED

Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer

Setup failed to copy the required support files.

Click on restart to restart your computer and try to reinstall.

I tried several times. I thought that maybe something my old installation of VMware Fusion 2 created problems, so I followed the instructions to the 1017838 of the knowledge base article to uninstall everything. I deleted the app, even my old virtual machines. The first time I did that I must have missed something, because when I tried to install fusion 5 new he already knew my trial license key. So I went all uninstall - reinstall procedure more 2 times, restarting the computer between each course.

Anyway installed snow leopard server on fusion 5 has?

Advice appreciated. I need this facility for an older application that requires rosetta and this hack seems to be the only way I can get it.

Either way, my host is a 5,1 Macbook running Mountain Lion. 8 GB of ram, 100 GB of free disk space.

    Thank you.

Hi cmwoodand welcome to the VMware communities!

We had a few reports that the disk of the server Snow Leopard 10.6.3 triggers a problem with merging and direct access to the physical disk.  If they send 10.6.3 media for this crazy business of $20, I suspect we'll see more of these problems...

You should be able to work around it using disk utility on your host to make an image of Mac OS X install disk, and then attach the disk image of the virtual machine and install by whom.  (When you use disk utility, make sure that you select the drive of optical disc as the source of the image, not the media named "Mac OS X Server".)  If you picture the bad thing, your VM won't boot past the Apple logo.)

    See you soon,.

  • VMware - SAN verses server for the guest operating system

We set up our VMware environment 4 years ago and want to replace the hardware and upgrade to VSphere. We are now part of a large organization and they are questioning our original facility regarding using a San to host Windows Server guests in this environment. They believe that a San is only for storage and VMware customers have to live on a server. I'm looking for confirmation that we use "best practices" by having the OS guest systems on a San, rather than a server. I'd really like something VMware that says to use a SAN and why. It's our Installer; We have 4 servers ESX 3.5 with dual processors core quad, 32 GB of ram and quad port network adapters. The ESX servers connected to the SAN via redundant fiber via HABs connections. The SAN has 6 TB of storage space and we accommodate 24 people from Windows 2003. I say that we have this right and they say I should welcome the guests on a server and not a SAN. My point is why are in charge of the server OS and everything that comes with it as patching and antivirus and multiple HBA when I can get a SAN form HP at equal or lower cost. I just need help to make my case.

Shared storage is a requirement for features such as vMotion, DRS, and HA.

It is certainly having a guest on local storage, but what happens if you have a question of host or need maintenance?   If you use a shared storage and you need to host maintenance you can simply vMotion the VMS to another host and there is no interruption of service.   Without shared storage log off the virtual machines or need to spend downtime to migrate them to another host.   If a host goes down, your VM on local storage is down until the host is repaired.  With HA and a shared storage, another host will reboot the virtual machine and it will be online in a few minutes.

  • Having difficulties to install Snow Leopard Server on Fusion 4

I upgraded from Fusion 3 to 4. I want to use the merger to run Snow Leopard Server under Leo, so I use a few applications of Rosetta. When I try to install SLS from the disc, it starts and stops with the message:

"The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system.

Power off or reset the virtual machine.

Im trying to install on a MacBook Pro i7 quad core 8 GB of RAM. The merger is the version 4.0.1

    What should I do?

    Thanks in advance,

    Bill White

    Hi Bill,

You should be able to install and configure 10.6.3 on the Core 2 Duo Mac Mini.  If you were to then move it as-is on the MBP, it fails at startup in the same way that you see with the installation program now... however... If, although the host of Core 2 Duo, you apply each update is available via software update, turn off the prompt, then move it into the Core i7, there is a good chance that it will work (I think 10.6.8 supports your Core i7 CPU)...  Definitely worth a shot.

    See you soon,.

  • His guest of Snow Leopard Server in Fusion 7 in Yosemite?

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere. I have found some answers to Fusion 4, but didn't work for me. The problem is that I seem to be able to get a sound of a new Snow Leopard Server virtual machine.

I tried of course to add the audio card in the virtual machine in Fusion settings, but nothing helped. Install the EnsoniqAudioPCI_v1.0.3_Common_Installer.pkg in the guest does not have anything either. My procedure was perhaps wrong? Can someone explain what are the specific steps and/or downloads should be done to a guest of Snow Leopard Server have sound?

    Thank you.

Some good news, Woody and all. I just recreated the Snow Leopard Server 64-bit) virtual machine from scratch with VMware Fusion 7.0.1 (after adding the virtual Hardware Sound Card before installing the guest operating system). After installing the VMware Tools and restart, I installed the driver Ensoniq restarted 1.0.3 and, as was to be expected, no sound. Then I turned off the VM, then I open the vmx with Text Edit file and deleted the line incriminated who supposedly provided hdaudio to the guest OS. I saved the file and rebooted the computer virtual and boom! Sound œuvres.

    Thanks to you all.

  • How to mount an external drive in Snow Leopard Server VM

I've created a Snow Leopard Server VM running in my office of Lion native.  I would like to run the migration wizard on an external drive of Snow Leopard to migrate a lot of user data and applications (a snow leopard to be precise user account).  I can't find a way to mount the external hard drive in the virtual machine.  Should I create a disk image of this external hard drive, or something to get there?  Anyone tried this?

I guess an external USB drive?   Can't redirect the USB device to your virtual machine?

  • Cannot write to Snow Leopard server to Windows XP

OK - my set-up is the following - I have a Mac with VMware fusion where I do most of my work on the side of Windows XP.  Recently, I added a mac mini Snow Leopard server so that a group of us can access the files, and my mac is connected to it through sharing.  On the side of windows XP, the server is mapped and I can open the files it contains, but when I try to save or delete whatever it is, it won't let me.  It's as if I was a user who had read but not write privileges.  The problem is that I don't remember connect you, so I think that he mapped automatically, so access is here to look at the files, but when it comes to writing, the server does not recognize the user and block the change.

I hope the above makes sense.  I guess I could establish a VPN connection and get out and return this way, but it seems rather ineffective.  If anyone has an easier solution, it would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

Have you tried to disconnect the mapped drive, then remapping using the option 'connect under a different name' on the map network drive window?

  • How to disable SSLv2 on Snow Leopard Server?

Because of the possibility of to DROWN-attack I want to disable SSLv2 on my Snow Leopard Server (10.6.8).

Did anyone here who can tell me how to disable SSLv2?

Install a new version of OpenSSL would be nice too, but I don't know how?

    Thank you for your help,

    Peter.

    Hi again!

    Here is the solution. :-)

What you have to do is change your main.cf and disabel SSLv2 (SSLv3) and for Apache2 httpd.conf file.

    1. go to/etc/postfix and open the main.cf

    2. Add the following lines

    smtpd_tls_mandatory_protocols =! SSLv2! SSLv3

    smtp_tls_mandatory_protocols =! SSLv2! SSLv3

    smtp_tls_protocols =! SSLv2! SSLv3

    smtpd_tls_protocols =! SSLv2! SSLv3

    3. save the main.cf

    4. do/etc/apache and open httpd.conf

    5. search for the SSL stuff

    Add the following line:

    All - SSLv2 SSLv3 SSLProtocol

    6. restart your server to make active changes

    Greetings, Peter

It depends only on the BONE of the application server.

If your OS development and OS is different, you have to compile the fmb in the server again.

  • Free virtualization software takes supported Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system?

    People,

Hello. I need to install the Windows 7 host virtualization software, and then install Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system.

VMware Workstation supports Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as a guest operating system, but it's not free download.

People know that supports virtualization software free Windows 7 as operating system host and Windows Server 2003 as the operating system invited?

    Thanks in advance.

As I said in your previous post, VMWare Player is a free download and does not support Win7 as host and Win2k3 as a guest.  VMWare Player is also included with VMWare Workstation, you can imply that most of the time something that supports VMWare Workstation as a guest operating system is also a guests supported for the reader.

And unlike previous versions, player 3 includes the ability to create virtual machines base.  For many people, especially those who are starting just in virtualization, player is sufficient.

VMWare Workstation, although not free, can be installed as a 30 day trial.  After the trial, you can not start your virtual machines in my computer, but because the player is included in the installation, you can still run your virtual machines in the drive without having to uninstall anything.  So just install Workstation.  After the trial expires, if you wish that the advanced features of the workstation, then buy it.  If not, just continue to use the drive.

  • How to configure vmware workstation and server Suse 10 as operating system prompted

Hi, I installed vmware workstation 6.5 on vista and Suse 10 as guest operating system.  I keep Suse as default (without any network configuration).  I modified the default vmware gateway 192.168.2.1 keep even as window by default gateway settings. I also changed to the subnet to 192.168.2.0.  The IP address is replaced by 192.168.2.128. IP address of my Vista is 192.168.2.4 and DNS Server 4.4.4.1 and 4.4.4.2.

I tried to ping between host and guest, and comments to the host, but still received the error of "destination host unreachable". It does not matter using host only or NAT mode.

All Documents available? All advice? What do I have to configure Suse network. ?

If the IP address of comments has the correct value you use VMnet8, not VMnet1. It should work, but this isn't the network "host-only '. That's what I need the .vmx file for. If this indicates that the virtual NETWORK adapter is configured as 'host-only' the IP of comments is wrong. It must be 192.168.17.x in this case.

However... try to get a ping of the IP address, not name. Depending on the configuration you have posted, you should try to ping the 192.168.30.1 customer and 192.168.30.128 host. Don't forget that cannot work if your client is configured to use instead of VMnet1 VMnet8. If it is really configured to use VMnet1 you must change the IP of comments that I wrote above.

If the host and the guest have active firewall disable them for testing purposes.

Furthermore, by default, VMware installs a DHCP for VMnet1 and VMnet8 service. So if this service is still running on your host computer, you can assign the DHCP client and he gets the appropriate automatically for the network IP address.

I don't no how to open the *.vmx in text format.  I noticed that vmnet1 IP address on the side of the BACK is 192.168.17.1 but side comments, it is established as 192.168.20.0.

It is a text file. Just open in an editor and copy and paste it or attach the file to your next post.
