Fusion 6.0.5 - cannot start EFI USB stick

It is supposed to be easy to start EFI USB stick.

So I made sure that I have few of them created (USB3 & USB2, big 32 GB, small 256 MB, different OS bootable EFI)

While they work in physical with UEFI boot machines and also in my computer 11

W11-efi.PNGW11-efi-shell.PNG

Fusion 6.0.5 is a go.

None of the tested USB gets listed in the EFI shell (all screenshots are made using the same USB on Windows 7 x 64 & ML 10.8.5)

Fusion605-efi.jpgFusion605-efi-shell.jpg

EFI Shell version is lower (2.30) in W11 then Fusion 6.0.5 (2.31), but it would make a difference?

Updated to merge 7.0.1 & all works even as 11 workstation.

Also same version EFI Shell 2.31

So obviously F6 was the problem

  • Cannot start T400 USB key.

I'm trying to start a Lenovo T400 laptop computer from a USB key.  The USB key contains a version of Ghost that I start in order to image the laptop to my Ghost server.  I can successfully start a Ghost on a CD session, but I have to change the SATA settings in the BIOS to achieve this.  I'm trying to get away from the CD and change the BIOS.

Whenever I try to start, I get the message "Missing Operating System".  Successfully, I can boot and picture one boatload of Dell computers with the same USB key, so I don't think it's the drive.  On the laptop's operating system is Windows XP.  The USB stick uses command.com Windows 98 to start and is formatted in FAT32.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Hey, Zoltan-thanks for the post, it was very helpful.  I'm not fluent in Linux that I'd probably, but your mention of the HP trainer got me interested in it.  I reformatted the drive USB with the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and then copied back all my files.  I can now successfully start a Lenovo T400 with my USB.  I was using a Windows 98 bootdisk to fdisk and then format the drive.  (This is my first attempt at this and a colleague suggested it was the right way to go)  Even if the system with the USB drive as C drive, I guess he doesn't properly format it as the active drive.

  • Cannot start on USB 3.0 external hard drive?

I have created a startup disk, so much for my new Mac Pro 2013 and finally to put in my old Mac Pro silver tour 2012.

I did a clean install of El Capitan on an external HD. Nothing else on the subject. The Western Digital 2 TB Green is in a pregnant Sabre, connected to a USB 3.0 hub, which is connected to the new Mac Pro 2013. I tried a couple of different ways to select external HD and boot to it, but I keep priming in Macintosh HD SSD installed in the Mac Pro (2013).

I was wondering if the problem is the hub. Should the HD be connected directly to the Mac Pro?

Should the HD be connected directly to the Mac Pro?

    Yes, exactly.

The reason is that a USB Hub arrives too late to be seen at boot time, so the drive is not available to start from.

It is also a problem for the use of 'hang up the keys' at startup - beyond the hub keyboard is not visible at startup.

  • Cannot start linux USB drive on the PC of Compaq CQ2903ES

    Hello

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Paul,.

I can confirm that following your directions, and starting from a DVD, I could install linux on it. This isn't what I wanted at first, but it helps.

    Therefore, the solution is:

    1. Disable secure boot.
    2. Enable legacy start.
    3. Set boot order (DVD first in legacy trunk).
    4. Start the PC and enter the code + entry.
    5. Again, start with the inserted bootable DVD.

Thank you much for the help.

    Best regards.

  • 10.7.5 host and fusion 5.0.2 cannot start or update comments from lion

I'm moving a VM 10.7.x guest 10.8.2 using the InstallESD.dmg from the Mac App Store.

My host OS is 10.7.5 and I use Fusion 5.0.2.

I tried the upgrade several times, but after installation I get the message shown in the attached screenshot.

    Screen Shot 2013-01-15 at 20.14.51.png

I changed the OS of Lion Mountain Lion in the settings of the virtual machine, but it had no effect!

I also tried to create a new virtual machine and boot from the InstallESD.dmg, but the virtual machine does not start. I get the circle with a cross through it.

Why can't I create a new machine virtual 10.8 or upgrade an existing VM 10.7?

    Thank you

    Hi cookieme,

Panic occurs because your virtual machine still contains the VMware Fusion 4.1.1 tools and that the release is not compatible with the Mountain Lion: specifically, the vmmemctl driver triggers a comments during the boot kernel panic, as you found it.  Since you're now under Fusion 5.0.2 try to restore your pre-Mountain-Lion VM snapshot (you, not you?) update VMware tools in this guest of Lion and then proceed with the upgrade to Lion mountain inside the guest.

Please let us know if that solved the problem for you!

    See you soon,.

  • Satellite U400-15E - cannot start new USB HDD

    Hello.

Recently a bought a WD My Book external with 3TeraByte to use with my Satellite U400-15E. I can use inside Windows 7 Ultimate without problem. But if I try to boot from it (by pressing the F12 key), the BIOS does not even see the drive.

Is it because Toshiba does not use Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)? UEFI BIOS can overcome the limitation of 2.19 to in computers today easily, as explained in the following Western Digital document:

This would allow me to use my new external drive to store an image Ghost drive HARD internal of my Toshiba for example. I mean 3 TB and more capacity is a reality today. When Toshiba updates their UEFI BIOS support?

    Material used:
    Toshiba Satellite U400-15E (BIOS v5.00 10/26/2010)
Western Digital My Book Essential 3TeraByte - Firmware v1.014 (USB 3.0 interface)

    Hello

The Code 10 error code is generated when the Device Manager has not enough information or error that spread upwards by device drivers is not recognized by Device Manager. In addition, this error may occur if one of the pilots who needs the unit does not start. If multiple drivers are used by a particular device, it can be difficult to determine which failed.

I suggest you follow the steps in the link below and check if it can help solve your problem.
