Satellite U400-15E - cannot start new USB HDD

Hello.

Recently a bought a WD My Book external with 3TeraByte to use with my Satellite U400-15E. I can use inside Windows 7 Ultimate without problem. But if I try to boot from it (by pressing the F12 key), the BIOS does not even see the drive.

Is it because Toshiba does not use Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)? UEFI BIOS can overcome the limitation of 2.19 to in computers today easily, as explained in the following Western Digital document:

This would allow me to use my new external drive to store an image Ghost drive HARD internal of my Toshiba for example. I mean 3 TB and more capacity is a reality today. When Toshiba updates their UEFI BIOS support?

Material used:
Toshiba Satellite U400-15E (BIOS v5.00 10/26/2010)
Western Digital My Book Essential 3TeraByte - Firmware v1.014 (USB 3.0 interface)
MS Windows 7 Ultimate - 32 bit version

Thank you

Hello

Satellite U400 supports devices to boot according to the user manual:
USB FLOPPY DRIVE
HARD drive primary school
Optical devices
Network (LAN)

If the USB drives are not supported.

But you're absolutely right Re: 3 to and a larger capacity is reality today, but Satellite U400 is older model laptop and not newer ;)

  • Satellite U400-15E: cannot use Bluetooth

    Hey guys

    Newbie here.
    I just bought a new satellite U400-15e.
    I did as follows.

The switch market and fn + f8.
Everything is on and without bluetooth installation came.

    All advice is appreciated.

Off topic, I bought my laptop in March, but when I registered it, it showed that my warranty ends in November? I thought it was a 1 year warranty.

    Help, please

    Hello

With regard to the question of Bluetooth:
Are you sure that your laptop U400-15E has been equipped with Bluetooth module to 100%?
Check the bottom of the camera! If the BT has been installed, then you should see a few labels of BT.

With regard to the question of the guarantee:
Usually you've got a standard one year warranty and it s is available on the first day of purchase.
But you can extend this standard warranty. If you would register the notebook on the Toshiba page then you would get, second year additional warranty.

  • Motherboard for Satellite U400-15E work Equium U400-124?

    Hello

My graphics card died on my U400 - 124 & I said that the motherboard must be replaced.
I found one for a Toshiba U400-15 and I was wondering if that will enter my chassis.
It's ok if I have to reformat my hard drive & reinstall windows.

Here's what he said on that I found.

    A000060020
    Motherboard Toshiba U400 - 15th

    Compatible with A000027670 A000060020 31TE1MB01N0

I have attached a picture of my model below.

    Any help is really appreciated

According to the image of the Equium U400-124 belongs to the series of PSU42E

Satellite U400-15E belongs to the PSU44E, but both series are very similar, and I guess that the motherboard could be compatible... the presentation of the motherboard seems even if from my point of view of a few you should be able to install this card.

    Hello

I live in England and I would buy a Satellite U400-15E. However it is possible to order it with a french and french keyboard Vista? Is it possible to order online?

    Best regards

    Vincent

    Hello

Satellite U400-15 is not for the French market it belongs to the series of PSU44E and if you need a U400 with French keyboard layout or French vista then you should take another U400-xxx which belongs to the series of Satellite U400 - 17H or by Satellite U400 PSU44E - 14 p.

These two laptops Satellite U400 - 17H or by Satellite U400 - 14 p can be bought in France

  • Cannot start OSs of HDD external USB on the Satellite NB10t-A-101

I'm unable to install Linux on the Satellite NB10t-A-101, because it does not allow to boot from USB or install other OSs.I tried to circumvent this way: (it came with pre-installed Windows 8).

    (1) turning off SecureBoot (which I did)
    (2) putting USB at the top of the list of starting the computer.

    But it does not work.

I have two HDD USB (a TPG, the other normal) partitioned and it s impossible for them starting with this model of Satellite. I m thinking to return it back to the store that I need to install/start several OSs.

    Hello

Great that you are using Linux on your PC!

You mention that you have disabled the secure boot.
It is very good. But you don't say anything about the startup mode and nothing about what Linux you try to start.

Most of the distros must support UEFI but that can't be true for each of them.
If you want Win8 dualboot with a Linux distro, so you need to active UEFI and able to start in this mode distribution.
If you use a late clone-Ubuntu, Fedora or OpenSuse, you should be fine!

Another clue could be to take the USB key and try to start another PC from him.
Which will give a clearer picture of where the problem lies: on your key or the compatibility of firmware NB10 & distro Linux of your choice.

If you try to boot from a USB - HDD, I'm afraid I'm a bit at a loss as I've never tested.

    I hope this helps!

  • Re: Satellite U400 - failed to start the system recovery

I have a Satellite U400-PSU44E and Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit preinstalled and having some problems with my computer, had decided to use the hidden partition on the hard drive to fix the system.
I chose 'Repair your computer' (or something similar to this), but having done, a message tells me that,

"The installed program cannot start. Click OK to turn off the computer. »

I don't know why that is. Can anyone help? It would be greatly appreciated.

The Partition Recovery seems to be defective. You can order the replacement of Toshiba recovery disks. Which country are you?

Another possibility could be that the HARD drive has failed. in this case, you will need to send the system to an ASP for repair.

  • Satellite U400-138 - cannot install XP display drivers

    Dear all,
Sorry if this topic is duplicated.

I have a laptop U400-138, with Win Vista. I installed XP prof. and downloaded the drivers on the Toshiba site. I tried to install the display driver, but still give me that this driver cannot be installed on this PC.

Please can someone help or advise if something is wrong.

    BR

    Hello

Satellite U400 belongs to the series of PSU44E and that's why you can find all the drivers on the Toshiba site:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

If you can t install the driver with the setup.exe file you should try to install it manually. Go to Device Manager and select the graphics card. Then choose set to update driver and advanced installation routine to choose the driver yourself.

  • Satellite A660-158 - cannot start Windows

    Toshiba Satellite A660-158

I bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite A660-158. It has served me less than a week. I think it's the broken hard drive.

    My problem:
Once I start the computer, it started and has worked for a while, but suddenly, there was an error reading that I didn't have the time. Computer has been restarted. And does not load... Until the boot mode does not reach. But the initial test (with logo) succeeded. Takes a long time and finally gives an error:
    -----
Cannot start Windows. Maybe it was because of the recent small difference is the hardware or software configuration. To fix this error:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc, restart the computer (the complete transmission wasn't)
    2. choose the language settings, and then click Next.
    3. Select "repair your computer".
If this disk is missing, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer (he turned and said to wear to the DEPOT, but I do not have this feature).

    Status: 0xc000000e

Details: Unable to start menu, since the required device is inaccessible.

    Hey,.

And why do you think the hard drive is faulty?
Have you ever tried the repair your computer option? Usually with this option you can restore factory in a few minutes.

Also if you have the Toshiba recovery disc you can also restore the factory of this disc. Just boot from it and follow the instructions on the screen. You need to do a few clicks only, installation with all the drivers and tools happen automatically.

If you have any other questions, please let us know! :)

Is there anyone to show me any solution?

    Thanks in advance,

Any solution? You mean a magical solution? :)

No one knows the configuration of the laptop.
No one knows what OS you are using.
Nobody knows what you did last time with your laptop.
No one knows how long you have this problem.
No one knows what are the USB devices that you use to test USB functionality.
What you have already tried to do about it?

You want to have more questions?
Maybe you should write more than three short sentences as a description of the problem.

  • Satellite U400 - problem with the new extension to 2 GB RAM

    Hello

    My satellite U400 have 3 GB of DDR2 memory. (2 GB DDR Kingston PC5300 + 1 go)
    I tried to put 4 GB of RAM (2 x 2 GB DDR2 PC5300 Kingston).
But I have the blue screen on startup of windows.

Each extension RAM works very well (try with 2 GB of RAM only).

Windows 7-64 bit / CRUCIAL M4 256 GB HARD drive.

    Do you have any solutions?

    Thank you.

Can you please post exact model laptop (U400-xxx)?
I just want to which Kingston modules are 100% compatible with your laptop satellite.

I can only imagine that you are using incompatible Ram. All compatible modules will be recognized correctly and you will be able to boot your laptop as usual.

  • Satellite M30: Windows cannot start because a file is missing

You can repair from ordinary cd and use "r" for repair.

How to use recovery cd for this... It does not work.

    Hello

It's not easy to use the repair mode because the recovery image file CD. The other way is that you try to start the operating system is the safe mode and look if the lack of files exist in the C:\I386 folder. If not, well I think that the only way is to recover the system with the recovery CD.
