Fusion drive how...?

Hello

The other day I saw a post with a link to a Web page on how to create your own Fusion player. In my view, that it may have been an Apple Web page.

However, I forgot to bookmark.

Basically, I have a Macbook Pro mid-2012 13 inch Non-retine compatible with having a third of road merger.

I would like to know what hardware is recommended for the creation of a third party by car merger?

(1) what hard drive model?

(2) what SSD model?

Also can you use boot camp with a third party by car merger?

You can create more partitions on a drive of Fusion and install OS X, MS-Windows, Linux, etc...

-Thank you

The indications that I used to create a Fusion drive in my Mac Pro are located at http://blog.macsales.com/15617-creating-your-own-fusion-drive

For my SSD, I used the card of mercury Accelsior E2 PCIe SSD and HARD drive, I used a 1 TB drive installed in my Mac Pro. He played very well.

  • How do I know that I have installed the fusion drive correctly?

I recently bought an iMac with a fusion drive. So, I'm a newbie in the world of osx. • fusion drive

I just start up my iMac 27 "that I received in August 2016. I ordered a Fusion 1 TB drive. What is the profile of what it says. How will I know that's what I ordered? Somehow this iMac has no help.

Go to Apple > about my Mac > system report > navigate the material, then click SATA. A regular reader will have an entry as well as the size shown below; a fusion player lists an SSD and a normal HARD drive. Mine has a HHD & SSD, but they have not been defined as a fusion drive:

Then you should see a 1 TB HHD and then a 24 GB SSD hard drive (maybe 128)

  • Help required with the MacMini Fusion Drive

    Hi all

I recently bought a second hand end 2012 MacMini i7 wth a fusion drive. The previous owner had created a windows partition. I don't want to return the machine to its original out of the box factory for my use, as I did not need to run windows on it.

I'm fighting to get the fusion drive to merge. Currently, I have two separate discs that I named her 329 and 781 GB. Disk utility shows that both drives are very good. I rebooted into Recovery Mode to use online disk utility and readers are not displayed in red, and so there is no option to fix them.

I used the Terminal (after reading online) and it provides the following information:

  • Fusion drive problem

I have an imac 5 k 27 inches I have a disk fusion drive installed with the purchase.

I have some how seperated the reader in an ssd and a normal hard drive. Could list you the steps to get this drive as a disc fusion.

You have a Time Machine backup? Perhaps restore factory...

  • Fusion drive: restore from Time Machine - "the disc cannot be erased."

    Hello

On a new iMac (end of 2015), I need to wipe my drive of Fusion of 3 TB (El Capitan, unencrypted, just 1 partition, no Boot Camp partition) and then restore a backup Time Machine (made on a previous iMac, also with disc Fusion of 3 TB (El Capitan, unencrypted, just 1 partition, no Boot Camp partition).

According to the document from Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904 'restore from a Time Machine backup' I...

    1. restart with cmd + R (later also tried cmd + alt + R and also a USB bootable of course El flash drive)

2 selected "backup restore Time Machine"

3 selected my external backup disk, Time Machine

4 choose the most recent backup

5 selected "Macintosh HD" as a destination and click "continue".

... but then the following message appeared "disc cannot be erased.

Then I tried to erase 'Macintosh HD' via disk utility:

    1. restart with cmd + R (later also tried cmd + alt + R and also a USB bootable of course El flash drive)

    2 choose disk utility

    3 choose "Macintosh HD"

    4. click on tab "delete".

    5. click on the button 'clear '.

... then I got the error message:

"Clear process failed..." Details: Dismantling DIS3 - deletion of logical volumes of the logical volume group - cannot remove the basic storage logical volume. Operation failed... »

I was in the 'loop', the only way out was to "Reinstall Mac OS X", and then after many hours, he had once again my old installation flubbed with everything I wanted to get rid of!

How to restore my backup Time Machine - nothing more or less - to my new iMac?

I lost 3 days now with this problem. I really hope someone has a solution.

    Thank you very much!

Apple did not provide an easy way to recover from this condition. If you are not able to carry out these instructions, please someone more experienced to help you get. One option is to take an appointment 'Genius' on an Apple Store.

Starts the Internet recovery mode by pressing the key combination command-option-R to start ringing. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.

Note: You need an Ethernet or Wi - Fi connection permanent Internet to use recovery. It will not work with modems USB or PPPoE, proxy servers or networks that require a certificate for authentication.

In the OS X Utilities screen, select

    Utilities ▹ Terminal

in the menu bar at the top of the screen, not one of the items in the OS X Utilities window.

Follow the steps in this thread to ASC to split the fuser unit. The long string of letters, numbers and dashes you will need to enter will be different in your case. Copy and paste into the command in the Terminal window.

This will remove all data from the fuser unit, then you had better be sure of your backups.

Quit the Terminal, and then repair the Fusion drive (see "Troubleshooting" on the linked page.)

Quit disk utility. Then you should be able to install OS X and restore your data from a backup in the main screen.

  • a fusion drive is good for audio recording?

I think buy a 27-inch iMac for audio recording on Logic Pro X, but is not sure a merger player performance, because some say that the part of the HARD of it on only 5400 RPM drive, if I hold with an iMac HARD 7200 RPM drive?

You will likely get different opinions, but personally I would not use the fusion drive and recommend an SSD.

    Quite significant speed difference.

  • Restore factory for 3 TB Fusion Drive settings

I should just come here first, Apple phone support has been no help at all, took two officers to just make me an appointment at the Apple Store for tomorrow.  I'm sure they were also just guess what to do.

I decided to format and restore my iMac with screen Retina 5 k, there is a merger of 3 TB drive.  I would just restore the drive to merge its factory settings which seems just a partition that includes the SSD & HDD together... I think that RAIDed... I'm not really sure, I've been googling and I am even more confused now.  I'm having the hardest time and whenever I try to delete a partition or delete something that I feel like I'm making it worse, which is why I called Apple, but they were not useful.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  I have no other drive connected to my iMac.

Is there maybe a terminal command to restore the unity of fusion to its original state so I can install El Capitan again?

I've attached a picture of disk utility where I left with telephone support from Apple.

N ° the SSD & HDD are not searched in a merger player. They linked together in a logical volume so that the data can be promoted and demoted to maintain the data that you use on the SSD and the data that you do not use the HARD disk. Giving you the SSD performance but a hard disk storage space.

You will find indications to recreate your Fusion drive to the http://blog.macsales.com/15617-creating-your-own-fusion-drive

I hope that you have a backup because only when you have completed this procedure the Fusion drive will be empty.

  • Fusion drive vs 7200 RPM HARD drive, it is worth the difference in price?

I have the beginning 2009 24 "clocked at 2.66 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo w/4 GB memory.  I have 86 GB of capacity, 83 GB available on my hard drive but I get these days, turn the beach balls, delayed typing, and 5-6 min restarts (if it does not crash).

(1): I started in recovery mode, run Disk Utility first aid on the three volumes that I configured and also to perform first aid on my external HD backup and time Machine external HD to ensure that those to external systems were functioning properly.  They are.

    (2) I ran Disk Warrior on all volumes and Cocktail on bootable disks.

So... is probably time to let decision-making in early 2009 iMac.  Looking at the new, I wonder if the 27 "1 TB drive merger is worth the difference in price of the 1 TB 7200 RPM HARD drive?  I only do the usual things: mail, loading some photos (about 12 000 photos in iPhoto), web searches, etc.  No big, heavy use.

It the additional sum of $200. Fusion drive worth it?

  • What are the specifications for a fusion drive

I'm looking into getting a new mac mini and I think to get a player of fusion. I currently have a mini 2011 that I install with a SSD that is dedicated to the operating system and applications, and the original for data (documents, pictures, music) hard disk. Some can give me the specs for a merger for a new mini unit (2015)? I would like to know if the SSD is 3g or 6g, what is the size of the SSD, and what is the speed of the hard drive. I guess the size

The SSD is based PCle blade, which is much faster than a SATA III/6 GB/s SSD.

Note that the basic model has only a hard drive or drive of available fusion while the other two models also have a large PCle based SSD as an option in addition to the rotation of the road and road of fusion. The SSD n a fusion drive is about 120 GB

  • Fusion drive: files on HDD or SSD?

    Hello

I added an SSD for my iMac mid-2011 (12.2) and "merged" into a fusion drive. iMac, boots in 20 seconds, instead of 4 minutes or more. Safari, mail etc work very quickly, so drive merger works well. BUT for example InDesign CS 6 works always 'normally', so he has not transferred to the SSD, which (as I read on the internet) is supposed to happen with programs that are widely used.

I've had the drive of fusion for 2 weeks now: whatever it is maybe wrong or I just wait the programs often used to switch the SSD? Is there someone who can shed some light on this?

What do you mean by "merged"? You use CoreStorage commands to create a real fusion drive.
