Fusion drive vs 7200 RPM HARD drive, it is worth the difference in price?

I have the beginning 2009 24 "clocked at 2.66 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo w/4 GB memory.  I have 86 GB of capacity, 83 GB available on my hard drive but I get these days, turn the beach balls, delayed typing, and 5-6 min restarts (if it does not crash).

(1): I started in recovery mode, run Disk Utility first aid on the three volumes that I configured and also to perform first aid on my external HD backup and time Machine external HD to ensure that those to external systems were functioning properly.  They are.

(2) I ran Disk Warrior on all volumes and Cocktail on bootable disks.

So... is probably time to let decision-making in early 2009 iMac.  Looking at the new, I wonder if the 27 "1 TB drive merger is worth the difference in price of the 1 TB 7200 RPM HARD drive?  I only do the usual things: mail, loading some photos (about 12 000 photos in iPhoto), web searches, etc.  No big, heavy use.

It the additional sum of $200. Fusion drive worth it?

For this purpose? N °

  • Is it possible to upgrade the Satellite A100-906 with 160 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive

    Hello guys,.

First of all, I would like to congratulate all the people here for their good advice.
As for my question, I want to upgrade my HARD drive. I have the laptop A100-906, which has a drive HARD 100 GB 5400 RPM Hitachi.

The hard drive, I would like to buy, is also Hitachi but with the highest capacity (160 GB) and RPM faster (7200 against 5400).
I wonder, if my laptop supports this drive and if I have problems with temperature and noise, because the HARD drive runs at 7200 RPM.

To summarize the above, is it really useful to replace my old 5400 RPM HARD drive to a new 7200 RPM?
Should I buy a new one with 5400 RPM to avoid having problems of temperature and noise?

Please let me know your opinion and thank you in advance.

    Hello

As you already know we can only speculate on the size of the HARD disk
In my opinion the 160 GB would be possible. But it s just my personal opinion.

In any case, the higher speed (7200 RPM) HARD drive should be a problem. I noticed that many laptops use 7200 RPM HDDs and 5200 RPM. So I imagine that the heat produced by the HARD drive shouldn't t increase the level of temperature at a critical level.

  • New HDD in my Dell INSPIRON N5010 laptop, will I go to 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM HARD drive

I bought the DELL N5010 laptop about 4 years back, and currently it is more under warranty.
2 days back my hard drive crashed and could not start or install the OS as there are bad sectors on the hard drive has. I plan to buy a new hard drive.

Which one should I go for a 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM. I would go to 7200 RPM, as it is faster, but I read on the internet that the 7200 RPM generates more heat then 5400 RPM and my laptop is already facing heating problem. I had replaced the fan about 2 months as my laptop used to close because of the heat. The problem of heating has not changed, but laptop does not stop :)

Anyone using the DELL N5010 laptop with a 7200 RPM HARD drive and he's fine?

Any kind of recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Sach

Thanks for the recommendation. The sales in the shop man also recommended the same thing. I bought Seagate 5200 SSHD(Solid State Hybrid Drives) which is still better than the conventional hard drive. :)

  • DV5220us will not identify Seagate 500 GB Sata 7200 RPM hard drive XP

    Hello

Upgrade the internal HD on my DV5220us of the standard 120 GB drive at 5400 RPM to a 500 GB drive at 7200 RPM and I have problems with the laptop recognize the drive. I did a ghost of the 120 GB image and then put the image on the 500 GB. When I install the 500 GB drive in the laptop, it does not recognize it. booting with the XP cd does not recognize the drive either. I've updated to the latest version of the bios, 24 I think, stll nothing. If I use cables and connect the 500 GB as a slave drive, he sees very well and it works. If I take the 500 GB and install in my Lenovo T61, it starts fine. No idea why the DV5220us does not recognize the HD Seagate 500 GB Sata 7200 RPM? Thank you!

    T

No one gave me an explanation to the problem. I'm actually advise to stick with a 320 GB 5400 RPM drive 500 GB 5400 RPM drives because have also been reported to cause problems. I'm sorry.

  • Someone at - it problems of heat upgrade to a 7200 RPM HARD drive in a MacBook Pro 13,3 "2.5 GHz Core i5 (A1278) - mid-2012, MD101LL/A?

HI - it would be an update of the stock 5400 RPM, 500 GB HARD drive. The 7200 drive I bought is 1 TB.  Thanks in advance for any help!

As long as it's a SATA HDD with a 2.5 form factor ", it will be compatible.  You experience a slight increase in performance with the faster HARD drive, but it will not appear in 50% faster than the 5400 RPM HARD drive.

    Ciao,.

Addendum: There will be no observable heat problems.  I did it several times myself on all of my 4 Mbps.

I'm looking at any 2.5', P - ATA, 100 GB, 7200 RPM drive HARD model I can find.
On my list are these 3 models:

    - Seagate Momentus 7200,1 (ST910021A)

Is there someone who has experience with this drive? s in P30?

    OK, I noticed that E7K100 operating temperature 40 ° C and 7K 100 a 55 C. This avoids E7K100.
Now I have to choose from:
    -Seagate Momentus 7200,1 (ST910021A)
    -Hitachi Travelstar 7K 100 (HTS721010G9AT00)

  • Satellite L670 - 1 DG-can I use a 7200 RPM HARD drive?

    Hi all

I have a portable Satellite L670 - 1 DG (out of warranty) and I would change the HARD 5400 RPM to 7200 RPM drive.
It is technically possible on this machine? Is is necessary to use a Toshiba HDD (or open)?

    Thanks for your replies.
    Laurent

Of course, you can use and must not be Toshiba HDD.
The only thing that can happen is that this HARD drive fastest heat producing a bit more where the HARD drive is placed can so be a little warmer than usual.

    All that s.

  • Equium A60 sees no 80 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive

My Equium PSA67E has the latest version of the Bios 1.90. It comes with a 40 GB hard drive.

When I did it I replaced it with a 80 GB seagate momentus 7200 RPM drive. This is fine for about 6 months. Recently I started to laptop and it does not recognize the 80 GB seagate drive?

If I put the disc in the event of external drive I can write and read. It works very well in 2 of my friends laptops; but my own bios do not now recognize!

I tried the PC world where I bought it and they can't operate in this laptop. What could change? Now only the old 40 GB drive, not happy :(

    Any suggestion is welcome.

    Hello

In my view, there could be either a bad connection between the HARD drive and the controller or there is something wrong with the motherboard for laptop

Have you tried to insert another disc (for example the old 40 GB HARD drive) HARD to check the functionality of the Board and the HARD disk controller?
    Please do it.

  • Is it safe to install a 7200 RPM hard drive in a laptop that originally contained a 5400 RPM HDD?

Hello.  First of all, I didn't know where to post this, so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place.  Recently, the hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite is dead and I'm new.  I wonder if it is safe replace the dead 5400 RPM hard disk provided with the machine with a new hard drive 7200 RPM.  A few friends told me that it is perfectly safe, while others told me they burn out and possibly damage to my laptop.  What think you of all?  Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!

    Gillan - Greenleaf

    GG

It is perfectly safe and preferable.  If you are going to spend more than $100 you can think of a SSD drive, if your computer is new enough (not XP or vista era) to benefit from.

  • Considering a new 7200 RPM hard drive

1I? I have a video on my laptop.

5400 RPM does very well now, but 80 GB is getting crowded. I want a bigger drive. Do I need a faster drive as well?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of installing a 7200 RPM drive in a ThinkPad R6?

Choose with care. I didn't notice much difference between 5400 and 7200 RPM power consumption drives, but this last run a little warmer.

If you can afford it, go with a Seagate.

    I hope this helps.

  • Z420 HP: HP 2 TB SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM hard QB576AA (should I plug it into a grey connector 6 GB)

I have this hard drive and not being not SSD connected on a regular white connector on the motherboard, but apparently it can make 6 GB - should I plug it into one of the gray connectors?

    Kind regards

    SM

To answer my own question, I talked to someone from HP support via chat, that says it is OK to use the gray 6 GB port for this drive. It makes sense, because the drive is 6 GB, I was just ignorant mechanical controls could also use grey ports. For some reason, I assumed that mechanical controls have been slower and relegated to ports white 3 GB SSD could use faster gray 6 GB ports. Curiously, when I got the machine, he had a plu SSD plugged into the port of gray, but the Intel RST console has reported the transfer negotiated for it to only 3 GB. The console confirms that the new HARD drive is to get 6 GB (with my new SSD). The two ports are busy.

3d can damage the SSD or custody of drive?

because after upgrade windows 8.1 Pro, in Device Manager it show unknown device '? After installation 3d player it keeps show OK. !

That's why I want to know is - this safe for the SSD or not?

    Hello

There is no need in fact HP 3D DriveGuard for one SSD as there are no moving parts - this application is not relevant to a mechanical hard drive, where sudden movements, detected by the accelerometer cause the drive heads be "stored" in damage to storage media.

However, as your machine has an "accelerometer" leaving this driver installed will not affect the function of your SSD and prevents the Device Manager appears an 'unknown device '.
