Future of the Android Runtime

Hello

I work as a developer of Android apps and my boss received the device BlackBerry 10 Alpha.

So I played a little with it and successfully port 2 simple Android applications in the BlackBerry 10 Alpha.

But when I tried to port of our largest app, it fails to run. I can only assume since BB10 is still in alpha, not all APIs are still supported.

So, I have a few questions.

1. What is the future of the Android Runtime?

2. I heard the rumor that you guys plan to abandon the Android Runtime support in the future. Can you guys confirm?

3. If you guys plan continue Runtime Android, when you guys will add support for Android 4.0 (API 14) and above?

Thank you very much for your time.

There is no plan to abandon support for the execution of BlackBerry for Android applications

We are always evaluating what future features and API that we'll add to the Runtime. Things like the NFC, Bluetooth, etc. It is a matter of priority, time and effort. We have a roadmap for the main features posted here: http://developer.blackberry.com/android/tools/roadmap/ then as new APIs and support is expected, we will not fail to update the roadamp.

As for the future, we assess now what next Android OS we will provide support to. So don't worry, we do not expect to stay on Ginderbread 2.3.3 forever.

See you soon

Yes, Built for BlackBerry means it's a native app for BB. Here is some info:

    https://developer.BlackBerry.com/builtforblackberry/documentation/overview.html

The runtime executes in its own shell protected so he can do no damage to the device, but if you don't use a lot of apps, it should not be a problem. Keep in mind that some apps don't come that android ports so you will be somewhat limited.

    Hello

Yes, PUSH is supported by the Android Runtime. In fact, it has been argued since the Beta 4

  • Why Android ask me to install the AIR runtime...

Why don't the emulator ask me to install the AIR runtime - then he moved?

    Thank you

    Robert

If you use adb, run adb and have it add the Air runtime for your emulator (for example, emulator-xyzw):

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\adb s emulator-xyzw install F:\Downloads\AdobeAir\AdobeAIRSDK\runtimes\air\android\emulator\Runtime.apk

Your order will be different.  However, it won't much, if any, shorter, unless you add the adb to your system path.  If you navigate to the directory where you extracted the Adobe Air SDK (AdobeAIRSDK\runtimes\air\android\emulator\Runtime.apk), you can use:

    ADB-s emulator-xyzw install Runtime.apk

If you use adt, you use something like:

    F:Downloads\AdobeAir\AdobeAIRSDK\bin\adt - installRuntime-platform android - device emulator-xyzw-package F:Downloads\AdobeAir\AdobeAIRSDK\runtimes\air\android\emulator\Runtime.apk

If you add adt to your system path, and if you navigate to the directory where you extracted the Adobe Air SDK (AdobeAIRSDK\runtimes\air\android\emulator\Runtime.apk), you can use:

    ADT - installRuntime-platform android - device emulator-xyzw-package Runtime.apk

  • AIR runtime on the Android emulator

    Welcome,

I have a problem with the AIR runtime on the Android emulator: after that I installed the apk from runtime (everything's fine) I try to install the helloworld.apk compiled with Flash CS5 + Ext. Andr

Well, I get this message "INSTALLED INVALID APK failed"

    Someone knows why?

    > Just one more question: can you explain to me why whenever I compile I return this messsage?

    >' No library was linked as a Runtime Shared Library (RSL) because of your publication settings: AIR Android '

Flash CS doesn't let you link libraries such as RSL in Android. You probably use a standard library, which by default is linked as an RSL. The warning is just to tell you that linking is overridden. (Text Layout Framework is more likely library). If you do not intentionally use RSL, or don't know what a RSL is, you can ignore the warning.

  • Support of TextToSpeech in Android Runtim

Hello, I'm transferring my android app that uses the TextToSpeech Android APIs to BB10.  When I used the tool to check for compatibility, nothing has been reported. However, I see that the Android TextToSpeech API does not work on BB10. I'm doing something wrong or is - this API not supported? If it is not supported yet, is there a time limit that it can be supported in the future? If this is not the case, what is the recommended method to make "Text To Speech" on BlackBerry. Thank you for your attention.

Hi @NeatApps, I tested the API android text-to-speech from working. My test unit is Dev Alpha B, 10.2.1.1927 OS version.

  • Keyboard repeat the previous entry in the Android Applications on BlackBerry 10.2.0.1791

This bug appeared with the latest version of the software updates offered by BlackBerry devices, they show the OS version 10.2.0.1791 and 10.2.0.1803. I also tested on a number of simulators and have determined, that the bug was not present on the BlackBerry 10.1.X.1483 and more.

Our application uses an EditText object to input from the user. Sometimes we change our programmatically EditText content during editing, but BlackBerry android Runtime keyboard seems to remember the content of our EditText and returns the complete batch the next time that a character is typed.

The same code has been tested on a suitable number of Android devices, and it is not present on any Android device. We also tested older simulators, and he was not present there.

Has anyone seen this bug? No work around?

I can now confirm that the bug is not present in 10.2.1 I tested on devices with or without a physical keyboard.

    Thank you.

    Hello!

I think to update an Android Runtime application that is published in the world of the BB with a new web application built with WebWorks.

    Is - it possible/supported?

    Thank you

    Imre

I'm not familiar with this bug, the best is to keep an eye on this in JIRA, as you did.

Aside from that, they can link your new keys the former ID App for you, but you will need to contact support via the provider portal. It will be a small amount of work necessary get the configuration of your environment again for WebWorks, but I think that ultimately, it will be long for you.

  • The android app icon is smaller than the native applications on Dev Alpha

It is somehow related to http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Android-Runtime-Development/apk2bar-resizes-the-app-icon-to-8...

However, even if I have difficulty icon resized, changing the bar produce and pack a 150 x 150 icon, on DevAlpha (10.0.9.388) the icon looks like smaller than the icon of a native application (if WebWorks or Cascades). I also used the setting - os to target only the BB 10 but without results.

Is there something that I need to specify the apk2bar command?

    Thanks for your help.

This has been fixed in DevAlpha 10.0.9.1103.

    Hi SayantanSinha,

If you look under API supported levels, the maximum is 19 API.  I can't speak for the ADF 11.1.2 but the lines of code in the (more recent) MAF, who have a similar support matrix, we have noted problems with the API 20.

You can download older versions of the API of the Manager of Android SDK tool.  Remember to update your EPCO or JDev SDK configuration with the version that you want to use once it is installed.

    Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2 (11.1.2) Certification
