  I have tested something and would love some input from you guys. I have 2 esx servers in a cluster vmware vmotion enable, HA and DRS, each host has 1 single HBA connected to a SAN Fibre network with 4 present virtual paths.

  When we have simulated the fibre switch port failure , the HBA has tried to switch to the next available path which also failed, and then the other, then the other, with not all the 4 paths, it will attempt to failover to the next in the Cluster host?, I tried to test this, but I'm not sure if in THEORY HA should failover a virtual machine that can't connect to the data store on all paths 4 virtual access?

• NFS Newbie question

  Sorry for the newbie question.

  I have a small test system I try to enable NFS on.  Very low indeed. Basically just a little sin, the switch, the pc and esxi (3.5u4) box.

  all devices are on the same subnet. ESX is single hosted to the switch. (I know, bad practice to use the interface of mgmt for storage, but just try to keep things simple for this)

  I tried to create a second instance of vmkernel with a different ip address on the same subnet, but the GUI yelled at me.  I tried to find a way to enable NFS on the existing management interface, but could not find a way to do it. I googled around and I saw that I need to create a vmkernel another example to enable NFS.

  So the question is, is it possible to have a box unique esx hosted with NFS, mgmt and storage enabled without VLANing it?  Am I missing something obvious?

  Yes it is possible as mgmt have already vmkernel, you could simply add network (same subnet) storage & you have not need to allow anything else on ESXi.

  Assuming that you have configured LUNS on your storage space itself you will need to ensure that the ID in the world of fiber HBA on the host ESX (you can see them registered against fiber HBA under storage adapters, WWID) are configured on the switch of fiber access (read and write).

  In the VI Client connected to your ESX host, select the storage adapters tab and highlight the Fibre HBA. Right-click and select Rescan. If you have correctly configured the SAN and the Fibre switch, then the LUNS now appear under the fiber HBA. Go to storage and select Add storage. Follow the wizard through to add LUNS and VMFS format. Do this for each ESX host that you want to see the LUNS.

  I spent about two hours, passing through communities and have tried various things without success... basically, I have a new ESX host that I've built, configured, and networked, but I can't see our existing SAN.

  The SAN is a Clariion CX3 - 10 c and it hosts all of our existing VMs (we currently have two hosts attached to the SAN)

  I have installed the CLI and Navisphere agent on the new host

  I have started to host and that you have ENABLED the two adapters Emulex HBA (host contains two HBAs installed) because they showed as disabled by default BIOS

  I have one of the HBAs connected to the fibre switch

  On the fibre switch, I have a flickering green light where I plugged the fiber cable, which makes me think, it is connected OK

  On the HBA, I have a green light and an orange light blink, which still makes me think the wiring is correct

  BUT I do not see the front Navisphere host, and the host cannot see all storage even after re-reading.

  Any ideas what to try next? I suspect that it is perhaps something to do with zoning - I must say the Emulex HBA how to find storage processors? If so, how can I go about it? From the BIOS by restarting the host and pressing ALT - E?

  Any help or advice appreciated...

  If para poder las comunicar VM man los different ESX need than el vSwitch tenga una NIC Cuando el vswitch no NIC tiene: el trafico are just interno en el ESX y las maquinas than esx corriendo tiene ese y con una vnic al vswitch.

  Para poder hacer lo you tienes, you any asignarle una NIC (dispones TR) y use VLAN: crea una vlan nueva y asigna a portgroup LAB one vlan esa... y a vswitch ese, ESA forma esas maquinas just be veran between ellas...

  In Chapter 3, section generate a table of data, steps 10 and 11, you added a declaration of an array of 100 elements called sinus to the top of the sample1.c file.  Since it was added to the upper part of the file outside any function, the sinus is a global variable that is accessible by any function.  In step 11, if you have selected to add to block current reporting... instead of select Add statement at the top of the target file, then you would have created a local rather than a global variable variable, so FindMaxMin would not be able to access.

  Find your file of sinus see where it is declared, if it is.  If you find inside a function, move it to the top of the file, outside any function, after all #include instructions.  If not, repeat the section Chapter 3 generate a table of data.
