GF fubar'ed its rocket!

My FRIEND called me crying cause she couldn't listen to his MP3 player on her evening walk... and then, she said, "he said:

[quote] Not enough free space for music DB Please free 90 MB [/ quote]

I finally had the time to have a look today, and he used to power until excpet to say above.

I plug to look at its content, and it seems that the file names are all different... theres no music, no photo records, etc..

If I could turn it I could back to factory settings... but I don't know how else to do a reset without powering it and go through the menu? Ive tried the "soft reset" and it is no help is more... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

  • Convering videos w/SMC without immediately load on the rocket

I am a very happy owner of a sansa FUZE 4 GB. I recently started using the video feature and my approach to its use was a little different from how others use it I think... I have a large number of microSD cards which I Exchange with different segments of my library stored on them. Since it sometimes takes hours to convert video in a format usable by my player, I'm looking for a way of convert videos I want to look in the future. That is to say, I want to convert a large number of videos and store them on my computer somewhere for easy loading/unloading on the "rocket". The problem is when my memory fills up in the rocket, the converter stops working (actually he did something worse-it continues to run and then fails to save the output converted due to errors of memory on the target drive.)

what I want to do is specify a save location for the converted video output - looks like a microSD card in my drive or a usb flash drive or a directory on the local HARD drive. This way I can use my downtime to convert videos in my spare time, then transfer them to the "rocket" just before leaving my house for easy viewing.

Is there a way to do this? Now the only solution I have is to fill my rocket, copy all of the videos on a different drive, free up all the space on my rocket and then start again, the disadvantage of this method, it's that I can convert only 4 GB of videos at once - but I have a terabyte of content I want finally to convert. Any ideas?

Sorry, I misunderstood. I think what you're asking for was available on the 1st version of the SMC. SanDisk does not SMC; It is assigned to a different company. I can't remember if version 2 had that capability or not, but it was written by a company other than 1. So not the problem with these 2 versions old is that they were "pre Fuze" and that he supported it.

We are now on the 3rd version of the SMC, developed after the introduction of the "rocket", and if it is the same as version 2 software company, they removed the crop photo feature. Looks like it is 1 step forward and 2 reverse.

The last word of SanDisk here (which was a while ago), it was that they hoped to eliminate the need for MSC in total via a firmware update. But that may or may never happen. Have you seen this thread? Or this one? I agree that it would be a much more practical way to do it, especially with a large collection of videos to convert videos on your hard drive first and then loading them on memory cards as needed or wanted.

I did as you; convert the player and/or a card first, then moving them to my hard drive (empty the card) for long term storage and repeating the procedure. It can be a pain.

  • Napster and the "rocket": a consensus?

So I did some research and decided to make a rocket.  Not because they are the best ever invented, but because they seem to be the best that sells (and is thus likely to be supported for a while).  I searched this forum and the web looking for information on how well play together Fuze and Napster and I received a very mixed message.  I wonder if the community here can answer these two questions:

1 Napster works generally well on the "rocket"?

2 music subscription Napster-to-go usually plays from the SD card?

These questions have been asked here before, but a definitive answer was never really reached.  I did this research forum widely enough, but if I missed something, please let me know.

Here's what I know. Napster uses DRM for its files in through Windows Media Player and the MTP Protocol.  Sansa and Microsoft have cooperated on doing work together their alternative to iTunes/doPi compatibility.  They work insofar as Napster runs decently with any other computer and player mix.

Still Windows Media Player's whims, and instructions on most music services are not the clearest. So it is hard to tell from here inquiries what is a user error, which is weirdness WMP, which is a quirk of the particular computer involved, which is poorly explained by Napster and what may be a specific bug between Napster and Sansa.

TomJensen is right. Just try it. If you have used with success of Napster with another player connected to your computer, you can probably do the same with the Sansa - and if not, that's what guarantees store are for.  Do not tell them it's Napster - you can pretend you're a n00b and whining that it does not work.

  • Records of the "rocket"

I am brand new to digital music and am just getting started with my rocket.  So far so good.

I started by paste the files in the folder music in the internal memory, as stated in the manual.  But then I thought it might be wise to create separate subfolders in the folder music for each artist and paste the files in the appropriate subfolder.  It doesn't seem to make a difference when I use the rocket itself - it organizes all by genre, artist, album, etc. on its own.  But the records easier for me to see where the artists that I have loaded in the "rocket" when I am looking the files on my computer in Windows Explorer.

Is there a downside to create these subfolders?  I am myself for some kind of disorder affecting or create limits I'm not aware of?

    Thank you.

    JEP

The OP's question was to put songs in the album subfolders. Far from being a drawback, it's the natural way to group things. Absolutely do - will come. The "rocket" search all the music files on the unit in the folders or subfolders.

If you couldn't separate your own albums while organizing things on the computer, you may be courting madness. I know I would - it would list all the tracks 01 - FirstSong.mp3, 02 - SecondSong.mp3 straws, etc..

The "rocket" bed tags off the mp3s and lists them for Album, artist, etc.. But with the current firmware, if you scroll the music choices you'll also see records and, in this framework, your own names of files and folders.   So you can find things so be it: via the ID3 tags or through your own organization system.

You can try to load first, connecting in MSC mode manually.  In this way, you can start with a loaded rocket.

    1. open a Windows Explorer window by pressing [Windows] + E, or go to work.

    2. starting on the rocket POWER off, slide the switch to HOLD (orange list).  Press and hold the Center button while connected to the USB port.  You should hear the familiar sound of ba - ding the device is recognized, and it should appear on the screen.  At this point, release the button.

This will allow the rocket load: take a look at the battery icon.  It should be strobe effect.  MSC mode connection is an easy task for the "rocket".  In this mode, it is considered a flash drive.  I suspect that the MTP mode could be your problem.

When the "rocket" could not establish a connection, it can get distracted from the load operation.  It is better to load before work on the part of the PSG of the equation.  Once he is in charge, you can slide the HOLD switch to the center position.

  • How can I update the album art on rocket?

I spent some time recently downloading album art, and now that I have it, I have no idea how to get it on the "rocket".  I use MediaMonkey to set tags and get art just the way I like it. But when I open Itunes and go to the album art display, its like the fixes I've done in the monkey never happened.  I also tried using the Zune software to get some art, and it displays almost every pocket, just like the monkey.  But in windows media player, each tag in music is the same as before is not what I want. I look at the tags and they are going to be the 'old', while mediamonkey and Zune software display fixed/correct information.  So I ask myself, how can I change the tags/art in wmp for use in my rocket? Thank you

Mp3Tag is the way to go!  For the missing albums art required, you can use the function "export art as a jpg.  I used it in two modes, using the embedded image to export and a simple Google > Art > drag and drop in MP3Tag method.

You can name the art 'album art.jpg' or 'folder.jpg' - either the name works very well with the "rocket".

  • Help transferring music to all three of my rockets

Please bear with me... I'm not a geek or tech savvy.  Since the upgrade (which seems to be a common denominator), when I transfer music to all three of my rockets new music seems to show only artist, song title and album title and then skips to the next song.  Sometimes I'm lucky and am able to recharge music players, sometimes not, and I have to reburn the music on my computer, and then try again.  Help.  I run Vista and Windows Media Player allows you to load the music.  Any suggestions?

This is how the "rocket" behaves when he sees a file, it cannot read - often a file like the iTunes .m4a who made. But it could be any kind of file that does not have the "rocket", or a file that said do not play.

I don't know why this would change with the upgrade, but maybe that Windows Media Player becomes unpleasant because you realize multiple copies.

You may need to copy your albums on your computer once again, so I hope that you have the CD. If you do, delete the copies are there - in your computer and on the "rocket" - and try this:

Look in your Windows Media Player settings under music Rip (right click on it, or right click directly on the upper left, where it says Windows Media Player to view the tools, then on music Rip). Make sure that the box that says add copy protection is not checked.

Or, Hey, better yet, change the .wma format (which is probably what's there now) to .mp3. Make good quality, 192 Kbps or higher.  An .mp3 file will never give you this kind of trouble, and he plays on several different types of readers, too.

The reason for this is the drive Windows Media tent to accommodate labels and to 'protect' you have to make copies.  She can do it in its own type of .wma (Windows Media Audio) file, but not in the good old universal .mp3.

[Another possibility is that because you have changed the firmware, Windows Media Player it's a whole new device - and even one time, it protects the files because he thinks you are trying to distribute them.] [It's exactly the kind of stupid thing THAT WMP would - but I'm only guessing here.]

I know it sounds complicated, but if you change this setting music Rip and redo the albums it should work. If she doesn't let us know.

  • Rocket or Clip + for my wife?

My wife surprised me when I asked if she would like a Walkman to listen to the music she loves, and she said yes.  She would use it in walking and in the car to aid a gizmo FM transmitter that I have for my mp3 player.

She has never used a computer in his life and doesn't want to learn.  It can exploit its DVD recorder with hard drive to record, and she knows how to navigate the menu of reading to read television programs it records.  She does not know how to set timer on the DVDR records so I have to do it for her.  She is seen by far and needs glasses for reading but usually don't wear them.

    1. do you think that a rocket is quite simple so she can enjoy using play songs?  I do all the loading for it and be responsible to recharge the battery.

    2. the text display on the "rocket" longer than conventional book or newpaper printing size so that she could read it without his glasses to select songs?  Or are there stamps she could see without his glasses?  She will be able to navigate to the thumbnails without his glasses?

    3. do you think that a rocket is quite simple so she can navigate to display pictures on it?  Although this isn't a requirement, I think she would enjoy it since his mobile phone is really simple without photo display capability.

If you need more info about my wife to answer my questions, please let me know.

    Thank you

The only advantage of the largest capacity Fuze's more capacity. It is up to you where you want to store the music and how much you stuff on it.

I don't know what the manual said additional measures, but in my experience, there is none. You can drag - move on the card or the device exactly the same way.

Since you'll load the content for your wife, you might prefer to keep everything on the removable MicroSD memory, load on your computer and just put it back. But it is up to you.

The update takes place only if you changed the content on the card or device.

A slow card should be fine. You need a faster for your camera because you write a lot of information quickly, but reading, what does the "rocket", is not so critical.

People have reported problems playing back, just video on the Kingston cards. There was a recent post earlier of a miserable user Transcend followed a smiling, it seems to be luck of the draw, or user error. Video playback is the tricky thing that is the "rocket", and it is not always do it well. The music is much more reliable.

Put your MicroSD marks in the search box and see what you get.

    --------------------

Meanwhile... have you ever had an mp3 player? (Or a cell phone equipped with music, etc.) There is always a learning curve, but the Sansa is thankfully short.  THERE

You should be aware that "rocket" has two USB modes for the way in which music is responsible: MSC and MTP. The idea was to provide maximum flexibility for users. The reality is that it can sometimes provide more confusion.

MSC works like any other drive on your computer - drag-and-drop. Two drives appear in my computer: unity and the map. (There are third-party programs that can make playlists, etc., for the MSC mode)

DPW works with Windows Media Player and is necessary for the information of DRM (digital rights misery).

For me, Windows Media Player is a needless intermediary, but the idea was that it provides a more automated, equivalent to iTunes for iPod interface, and some people like it.  I use not PSG, and there may be some restrictions with the MicroSD card - thanks to rights holders who want to prevent you from copying files as simply as turning around a MicroSD card.

When you get the "rocket", it will be on automatic detection, which will pass in MTP mode if your computer is Windows Media Player 10 or 11 is installed, MSC, if not.  I would be immediately (1) download the latest firmware, Post-it notes at the top of the forum, then (2) go to Settings/System Settings/USB Mode to MSC.

(Whenever you update the firmware, maybe one or two times a year, it goes back to automatic detection, that is why I propose the upgrade before changing the setting.  The current firmware is very reliable, and you can use it without doubt to life, even if the new features may come in updates. Do not install Sansa Updater, which continues to call home every time you connect. Updates are simply not that frequent.)

It is best to stick to a single mode because your computer can only see one at a time - either the content you send via MSC or content sent by PSG. (The "rocket" sees all the content.) Then let him in MSC, which is transparent and logical. MSC, load content by drag-and - drop and you will always see exactly what is happening.

The next step, because it will be with any mp3 player, is tagging - how the "rocket" indexes your files.  If you use another mp3 player that isn't an iPod, you should already be well on this front. And if not, the forum is here.

  • Rocket of freezing to rebuild the database after the firmware update

    Hello

I used a Sansa Fuze since May this year, and so far I'm happy with it. If it were not for the updates of the firmware works do not somehow. OK, so I got another idea just half an hour ago and plugged in my drive. My computer would easily display the files it contains, without having to resort to tricks like the one described in my previous post above. I thought that since I read that the "rocket" is a bit picky about the format of the tags, I look to those of mp3tag. I went and spent all the tags to ID3v2.3 (iso-8859-1, how backward ), delete all the comments in the files and also adjusted the number of tag to include leading zeros instead of the format "1/n. Indeed, my drive didn't have the hiccups more after the reboot. Files that were previously listed as 'Unknown' is classified in their good artist and album and probably all of the tags appear in the correct order. Yay!

  • Need help to add videos to my rocket

I got it for Christmas. I know how to add all my songs and pictures, but I can't add videos to it. Whenever I add a video in the video folder, I look on my rocket and he said either "Format file not supported" or it just does not appear on my rocket. Any help? I know that the video format is MPEG-4, but I need help to really watch my videos!

You must use Sansa Media Converter. Even if its a MP4 you use MSC. It's the only way right now. The converter is avalible here is at the top of the page under the downloads section

  • Converter does not recognize my rocket

I got my rocket hip and downloaded the converter and everything, but when I pull up, he says theres no device. I tried unplugging and plugging back in my rocket and other but its does not work.

    Help? T_T

    ^. ^ yay Tounsiiaa love

    problem solved

  • My rocket downloaded everything on my computer.

I just got my Sansa for Christmas. Love it, think it's great, and it has some pretty cool features. I plugged in my computer yesterday, transferred all my songs in iTunes to WMP (I didn't immediately put videos or photos) and let it sync. I was wondering why it took a full day just to synchronize the songs of 500 or more, until I realized that the downloaded Sansa every single photo, music and video files on my computer!

Now I have about 5 000 photos, 300 additional songs and 20 videos, that I'm not on it. So my question is, how to remove the extra stuff alllll (preferably without having to delete them all one by one on the player) and make sure that my Sansa download all the files in my files again?

Your problem is Windows Media Player, which is set to Auto-Sync. Depending on your version, the settings are in different places, but connect the Sansa and then click Rip, Burn, sync etc. around and make any manual or sync music just for some files.

If you want to just start again, on the "rocket" under Settings/Control Panel is Format, which will erase everything you have added to the Sansa (it will not disturb the firmware).  So keep an eye on Windows Media Player and what he adds.   At this point, since WMP has already indexed all the media on your computer, you will need to tell it to forget its index - but make sure that it does not remove the files too!

The real way to avoid this kind of madness is to change modes (under Settings/Control Panel) USB - MTP Media Transfer Protocol, which connects with WMP - Meteorological Service of the Canada, which makes the work of Sansa as a flash drive. (You will see two drives, the internal memory and the slot for card, computer or workstation). Then, you can simply drag-and - move folders in the Sansa and see exactly what you get. If you like playlists, you can make them with Winamp in MSC mode.  Personally, I'm a Windows Media Playa hata.
