  I think that it s speaker malfunction, I doubt that it s a loose connection or something like that and I would not recommend trying to fix this problem yourself.

  I was running low disk space and my IT dept says: they removed some "temporary files". Everything they did watered IE so that she came back to v7 V8.   The script and the errors that you see are as expected. Firebug has been know to give trouble in the past. But since you've tried out with an installation without plugins, this may be the problem.

  When you feed the index.htm to Firefox directly, open the same exact the exact location of the same file and using the same Protocol (for example http://) as open aid with the servlet?

  If you test on two different locations, try to test the help opens the servlet.

  If you test on the same exact file, my guess is that your servlet breaks Firefox rendering.
