Group Policy settings prevent put me the pc to sleep

Hi, someone help with this?

Previously, I had a Vista PC (as an Admin) I could adjust the monitor turns off after 30 min and get the PC to seelp after 60 min unattended. Whoosh! PC ignites (my fault)

New pc refurbished, reinstall the old accounts Exchange etc, admin permissions, now group policy doesn't let me define powersaving & sleep options (it is grayed out).

I am still an admin, but can not change the settings, someone help, suggestions? I have another pc on the network which behaves very well (but I never set fire to that) I have checked the settings and compared between the two, they seem the same, but the Group Policy settings have no sense. Any help gratefully received.

Thank you

  • Try to get the Group Policy settings to apply without the need to restart the system

Original title: problem using Windows policies

    Hi all

I work with Windows computer local policies to restrict access to usb storage, especially, I'm inside the GPO edit and I change the setting: Local computer--> model Administration--> system--> peripheral access removable--> all removable storage classes: deny all access
(I have the Italian version, so may be, my translation is not perfect)

My problem is this: I have to restart the computer to see the changes take place. I tried to run "GPUPDATE/force", but no way: the policy starts to not work after restarting the computer.
    Where I'm wrong?

In Windows 7, everything works fine with GPUPDATE/force

I am using Microsoft Windows VISTA Ultimate SP2 32 bit

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Andrea Urbani,

You can see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and check if the problem still persists.

  • Values of local group policy settings

    Hello

I would like to ask what is the difference between "Not defined" and these policy settings that have been left "blank" under the columns of LocalGPO parameters. I noticed that next to "Not defined", there is also a "not configured", I can find out if the two means that the same thing or they are quite distinct meanings behind these two?

I also had to make use of MMC Security configuration and analysis function, but I am confused as to why there are "not analyzed" appearing in the section computer settings when you set values has been set in the database setting column?

  • Put automatically the laptop to sleep when removed from the base?

    Hello

Many members of our society are using portable computers. However they all use docking stations when in the office. Nature from home they all simply press the eject button on the docking station and put the laptop in their bag. As you know that the laptop stays on since there is no action in the Power Options, simply what happens when "I close the lid.

Some have killed cell phones in this process, it is recommended to put the computer to sleep manually start before removing from the dock menu and go about your day, but naturally not everyone follows this process.

So is my question there a framework built in Windows 7 that will put the computer to sleep automatically in case the laptop lid is closed under power and is suddenly disconnected from the power?

I have searched through ACPI configurations but came empty-handed.

    Any help would be appreciated!

In addition, we are a boutique HP and use their cell phones of class business.

I think that implementing standby when the lid is closed so that hip will probably solve it. Unfortunately I can't imagine a way to detect if it is not connected to the dock because as much as I know Windows doesn't support that.

Apologies, I couldn't help-maybe someone knows if it is possible?

  • Group Policy Editing - problem with settings in Windows XP

Hello.. I connected to my laptop with the administrator account and open gpedit.msc (Group Policy Editor). I went to experience something I wanted. I went to the Configuration of the user-->---> system and active "run only allowed windows applications" administrative templates. I entered a program name in the box to showlist. Later as I pressed I keep the laptop without disabling this feature. After I connected again, but the system is not allowing to open any program from a program is listed under "run only allowed application. The message I get is this operation is canceled because of a restriction on this computer. Contact system administrator.

I can't open gpedit.msc again to change my settings as the system starts same message. Kindly help me as soon as possible I'm unable to use my laptop.

How to restore the setting above, since I am not able to open gpedit.msc also. Y at - it a solution to restore this setting in the group policy files.

    VINET KR

    It's pretty funny!

I've recreated here, and I think that you have a few options...

Restart the system Mode without failure and you connect with the XP administrator account (not an account with administrator privileges - use the administrator account).  Then, you can run gpedit and undo the change, or as most policy settings are in the registry, you may cancel it.  In Safe Mode, you will need to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to log on as an administrator or switch user for the administrator account.

If you still can't get it, you might start on a third party CD that has a remote registry editor included (as Hiren) and change the registry on your computer and remove restrictions which is here:

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

    Delete the entry "RestrictRun"...

For a complete list of all XP policies, what they do and their equivalent registry settings, download the spreadsheet to complete my SkyDrive group policy settings (you never know when you might need it!).

  • My family in Windows XP system restore is disabled by group policy. The system cannot me to enalbe this function, despite I have a partition of my hard drive to store all backup

When I open the System Properties dialog box, System Restore is checked, saying: she is disabled by group policy, and the system you cannot activate this option. I got a partition dedicated to my justo of hard disk to store backups and create Points of restoration with a capacity of 10 GB. How can I solve this problem?

If you see things like this:

You do not have sufficient security privileges to restore your system.
The System Restore tab is missing from the my computer properties.
System Restore has been disabled by group policy.  To turn on system restore, contact your domain administrator.
The System Restore tab is available, but the turn off System Restore (disabled by Group Policy) box is grayed out.
The task manager has been disabled by your system administrator.
The registry editor has been disabled by your system administrator.
The task manager has been disabled by group policy.
The registry editor has been disabled by group policy.
The command prompt has been disabled by your administrator.  Press a key to continue...
The operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.  Please contact your system administrator.
The "Run" option is missing from the start menu.
The option "Log off."... ' is missing from the Start Menu.

The usual advice are something in the sense of "something has been disabled in the group policy...". ", and it is probably true that something has been disabled, but you know what something is and what it takes to do about it.

If you are using XP Home Edition, you will get away with advice to use the Group Policy Editor, because there is no Group Policy Editor in XP Home and that really doesn't tell you where to look in group policy, even if you run the Group Policy Editor.

You need a complete solution that works for all versions of XP and requires no hunting around in the Group Policy Editor or registry to find where things are that have been disabled.

Unless you have disabled these things on purpose, chances are good that your system has a malware infection.  The malware knows what tools you use to try to find and remove, for the malware disables the things you are more likely to consume and prevents them from running if you can't find the malware and remove it.

If your system has this kind of affliction, all malicious software tools you currently use or have used failed to protect your system so that you can expand your horizons malware detection and prevention to prevent these kinds of afflictions in the first place.

The malware will be happy you trick into thinking that you need to so something drastic to fix your system - as a facility repair, system restore point or a total reinstallation of XP.  This is what it would be like you, but these measures are not necessary.

You must solve the immediate problem of the tools does not, then scan your system for malware when you are finished.

No matter what kind of malware you've used analytical tools, they are unlikely to solve this problem, because they cannot tell if the changes made to your system have been on purpose (you or an administrator who makes them) or some malware changed them, so the analysis tools will let these things alone (it's usually a good thing).

If your system is afflicted in this way, there are probably other things that also do not work - like the Task Manager, the registry, System Restore and command prompt Editor, so fix them all at once even if you have not discovered they are broken again.

These commands from registry removes the registry entries that are stop opening programs.  Although the registry entries do not exist, these commands are safe to run and will work for all versions of XP.

Before making any changes to your registry, back up the registry with this free and popular tool:

Open Notepad to create a new text file:

Save the new text file with extension .reg on your desktop or somewhere you can remember with a name you can remember, something like:

    enableit.reg

After you save the file, close Notepad.

Locate the file enableit.reg on your desktop and double-click it.

Alternatively, you can right-click on the enableit.reg file, choose open with... and select the registry editor.

Answer in the affirmative to the question... Are you sure you want to add the information in the registry?

You should then see a message that information has been registered in the register.

    Reboot your system and test.

You can delete the enableit.reg file when you are finished.

If the registry editor has also been disabled, we first fix (not a problem).
