  • vCenter and its guests Managed Firewall

    Hello

I tried to configure vCenter to manage ESX servers behind the firewall. IP address for servers ESX and vCenter are private. I tried to allow control to vCenter Server remotely from the Internet, all right to accept that I can't open the console for the VM. He said that "address hosted for 1.2.3.4 Server search failed: the requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found." When I use the tool to monitor TCP/IP port communication, customer VI tried to communicate the IP 1.2.3.4 address which is a private IP address for one of my ESX Server on port 902 (UDP). So I'm not sure we can manage ESX servers behind the firewall by using vCenter Server. All gurus explain this to me or suggest how to set up?

    See you soon,.

    T.S.

Your ESX dns names can be resolved on computer where you run the VI client. When you open VM Console VI Client opens a direct communication of your machine to ESX using the dns name.

If you are 'Charger Acronis Manager' when it starts up, then someone has made changes to the boot sector. They have probably installed Acronis Disk Director. The original image is located in a hidden partition. The image is usually named base.wim.

You can buy a recovery disk HP at a reasonable price. That would be the simplest solution for the laptop back to the oriiginal State.

  • Question about ACS 5.1 and expiration of user account

    Hi all

Is there a setting on ACS 5.1 where you can configure the user account expires? Speaking of users configured locally on GBA.

If this isn't the case, you can do it with an external db such as MS AD? How?

We are looking for a hotspot guest management solution so that we can create temporary users without having to purchase any additional hardware/software cost.

    Thanks in advance,

    Raga,

Here's the answer to your first questions-

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_system/5.1/release/notes/acs_51_rn.html#wp122068

As much as to be able to do that in the AD, it is possible, you can consult the following documentation that shows how to set the attributes of the AD, I helped a client recovering the lockouttime attribute in its AD environment, I don't think that this attribute is present in the 2003 domain controller because I was unable to replicate this attribute.

Another step would be to use useraccountcontrol-

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305144 - if set a simple condition, if this value is 512 can you allow access, when you lock the account it will add status to disable for the account type if it is 512 (Normal_Account), it is equal to 514. The safest is to see what value you have for the guest account by retrieving the attribute after you create the account, create a condition which corresponds to this account.

Let me know if it helps!

  • How can I safely expand the vdisk my vCenter server located on?

Hey all, I'm a fairly recent convert to VMware and I really like what it has to offer. I'm still learning about it even after my class a week about a month ago. My current dilemma is that my vCenter server is a virtual machine sitting on a 120 GB vdisk but when I go to the summary page for this virtual machine storage usage is 124,17 GB. I was going to close vCenter and vSphere Client software to increase the size of the disk, but I was afraid that that affect my running virtual machines? I tried Googling and couldn't find anything definitive either way. So, can I safely stop vCenter and increase its size to drive this way? If this is not the case, what is the best way to increase the size of the disk?

    Thank you

    Joe B

Assuming that it is a virtual Windows machine (vCenter Server is also available as a Linux-based appliance) you don't need to shut down the guest operating system. Just resize the virtual disk of the virtual machine in the virtual machine settings and then increase the size of the partition in the disk of the guest Manager.

BTW. used 124 GB drive space intended to trade files of the virtual machine, and a few configuration files.

  • Problems with location CoreDumps VCVA

I'm having some problems with the new VCenter virtual device

His current run in my lab, 4 guests managed with HA and DRS and so on.

I have a problem where my storage coredumps (/ storage/base /) fills up very fast with files of 500 MB - ish called core.postgres. # (where # is a growing number of incrementally.) I can deleted files to this place and everything continues to operate correctly until it fills up again.

I increased the size of the partition to/storage/core with GParted to see what would happen, and not surprisingly there continues to grow. I don't seem to be able to find any material on the topic using the KB so I hope someone here can help.

    Thanks in advance

Upgrade to VCVA 5.5.0.1000 (5.5 Update 1) seems to have solved the problem.

Thanks for all the help, Pablo

  • Question about shared memory

    Hello!

I have a virtual machine that is configured with 1 GB of RAM and installed with Windows Server 2003. Shortly after starting the virtual machine, the info of the allocation of resources on the memory usage indicates the following:

While the Task Manager Windows VM shows the following:

While the use of the memory of the VM on the host is only 264 MB, why the use of the memory of comments displays 787 MB shared memory? The virtual machine is the only VM running on this host. If I understand correctly, "Shared memory" would theoretically show the amount of memory shared with other virtual machines on this host. For example, let's say I had two W2K3 VMs on that host with 1 GB of RAM each, the counter shared memory would report to the amount of memory that is the same for both these virtual machines and so physically shared. However, since there is no other virtual computer running on this host I don't really understand why he reports 787 MB!  It seems to me that the value of the shared memory is unused memory in fact (since the task inside the guest Manager reports only about 150 MB use and the virtual machine does not seem to consume the 264 MB mentioned on the host).

Any ideas what I'm missing? Thank you!

    As you say

    • The virtual computer is configured with 1024 MB of RAM

    • The private memory usage is 237 MB

    • Shared memory is 787 MB

All Windows VMs zero start pages is that they fill all memory with zeros. So VMKernel identifies all pages from scratch can be shared to one. In your scenario THAT VM wrote zeors 1024Mo and out of which 787 MB is shared and still 237 is used which further can be shared. 787 MB shared memory means that it the memory saved with page sharing and memory amount can be used by other processes.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi gazza.

Scan your computer for malware and try to remove it.

You can use the Microsoft Safety Scanner to do the same.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Unfortunately, when a system is infected the best way to ensure that everything has been deleted is to perform a clean installation.

  • OSD 4.1.1.19 is more guests of substitution of the same management

    Hi guys...

I noted in the bug fixes for OSD 4.1.1.19 that they corrected a bug in how OSD manages the guests.

The only way I found to make it work is to code this way.

    Select 'x' where double: value = 1;

That's just how OSD will work subsequently, or is this a new bug?

    Thank you...

    Tom

The fix for the problem of Substitution cancelled dud 4.1.1.  The solution is to remove any reference of login script in Tools > Preferences > Database.

If you want anything the login script would normally install the session just run it manually after login. For a prior analysis of the present, see...

  • vShield manager cannot see some virtual guests

Recently, we have built a new vSphere 5.1 environment and installing vShield endpoint Manager 5.1.2 - 943471.

Installed the endpoint on the hosts and the Kapersky Security Appliances to each host. I started to migrate virtual environment 4.1 existing to the new environment.

Improved vmware tools in the virtual machine as part of the process and removed the existing antivirus checker. The endpoint vSheild Manager reports that the thin driver is installed on all but a few virtual methods that are not reported by the slim agent vShield as Manager. They are listed in the left column, but when you look at the endpoint events that are not like the others? Before you begin to migrate all about I need to be certain that all virtual methods at least are protected.

I checked each guest to ensure that the driver has been installed and running using msinfo32 and are looking for the driver vfilefilter it checked good also I can confirm that virtual methods are running supported SCSI adapters. Something else to check?

Just a update for it tried a few other servers and they they also have same problem. Have uninstalled and reinstalled vmware tools with the vshield driver installed, but still do not see the virtual server.

Do we ensure "auto start/stop" to each virtual machine too (as written in "Attention" on the first linked article)?

I think it was on ESX 3.5 U3 corected. In any case, this happened only if you autostart enabled for VMS - the ability of ESX Server to boot VMs when it starts itself. If you do not need, leave it disabled.

Each of the agents of this is responsible for our virtual computer operation invited?

Not at all. Virtual machines running in a very low level of the VMkernel. Even if you lose the COS (which is your main problem here - you should check it...) the VMs will still work.
