• Allocation of the CPU to a guest VM issue

  Asked me to do some tests on one of our VMGuest against a real box that seeks to replace.

  In the past (and before I hit the config).  They had performed some tests.

  It's wha tI know systems that we compare and my question will follow:

  Old real box:

  4 x processors Xerox Dual Core with 3 GB of RAM and Windows 2000 Adv. Server

  VM box

  VMGuest configuration:

  x 2 vCPU / 3GB of RAM and Windows 2000 Server

  My VMHost is a 2 x Quad core Processor (so the Virtual Infrastructure Client)

  Summary for the VMHost page

  CPU shows 8 and 16 GB of RAM (about 10 VMGuests ago)

  I am quickly followed the CPU resources are running on max at 20% and the RAM is running at about 85% (I know it's high)

  For the test we would like ot assign more processors to the Test Machine of the VMGuest, by plugging in a couple of other VMGuest who may be put off the test time.

  My questions would be:

  Would there be any problem by adding processors in the VMGuest boxes? Other blocking and then down the comments, change the profile and restarting the virtual machine?

  The summary notes I would have 8 processors.  Can I assign (or is it a good practice to assign 4 or more processors to a single virtual machine)?

  With the Windows Standard (fact each vCPU = or a processor or a licened CPU)

  It is only with regard to the number of CPUS that I could actually re-branded in a Standard Windows box (I know that the CPU Max is 4) Although wanting to know how the VMWare would present the processors to the prompt?

  Hi Adam,.

  Well, it depends...

  You say that the old physical box made... he could have 4 dual core processors, but it uses all that raw power?

  Is not all just had a piece of hard core and 7 cores sitting there doing nothing?

  Unless your workload is running something like a database server, so it's a likely scenario.

  Without knowing the kind of load from your old server running any response is good (or bad besides)

  As you have already installed Windows 2000 on a SMP VM, that should be OK.

  I'd install no more than a 4 vCPU and unless you use database servers, I'd start with 1 vCPU.

  You can also look to break the workload in instead of 1 VM 2 VM, it can even that your guest easier to manage.

  ESX 3.0.x cannot present physical carrots as if they were of CPU.

  IIRC then ESX 3.5 U4 is possible to use the multi-core, with a cut in the vmx, but it is not supported and I don't have a link for it now, sorry.

  ESX 4.x may be multiple cores on its prompt vCPU, but you might run into issues with support for Windows 2000, it is a very old OS now. See also: http://planetvm.net/blog/?p=817 that the issue could be resolved with the update 1 which was released recently, but I write it here just to let you know.

• NO SECURE guest access

  E4200 bought this week and did a simple configuration via the installation CD (Cisco connect).  Set up the password and the principal name. Cisco Connect assigned "-guest" at the end of the main name for the guest account.  Donna guest account its own password.  Main and invited auditors were broadcasting OK - but guest account was not safe and access without password.  (All software and firmware upgrades were made during the initial installation).

  Set the E4200 and restarted things from the setting of the CD.  Created new account principal, main account password and password for comments.  In advanced settings, left base to initial settings wireless settings, changed secutiy to WPA2 Personal wireless.  Always have the guest account issues in unlocked state. (Have disabled access as a guest for now until I can get the password for it).

  Suggestions?

  Never mind.  Just responding to no lock showing in the network list.  Found this is normal for the comments of the accounts, but when trying to access the internet, password is required.  Sorry for the rookie mistake.

• ESXI network/Internet connectivity issue 4 with a guest

  I worked on it now for a few hours and I can't understand what is happening. I'm under ESXI 4.0 on an x 3230 with a processor intel 1000 inside. There are currently 4 guests installed operating systems. 3 are centos 5.3 (64-bit) and the new (the one that does not work) is windows xp (32 bit).

  I got a 29 awarded to the host, so I can give each machine a virtual address static primary ip then subnets secondary route to the primary ip address. The IP addresses I am award are entirely routed internet IP, lan not local addresses, if that makes a difference.

  3.4.5.192 = network

  3.4.5.194 = vm1

  3.4.5.195 = vm2

  3.4.5.196 = vm3

  I have install publicly routed internet blocks before and never had a problem. I checked the host logs, nothing found. ipconfig/all seems ok, good dns/gateway/subnet/etc. The driver for the VM (AMD PCNET) network card is installed, it seems to work fine. It is connected to the switch from the virtual machine just like my other virtual machines.

  I am at a loss of what I'd do next shoot evil. Are there problems with 32-bit windows running on the same host as linux 64-bit? Does anyone have ideas, what may be the issue? I searched on google for similar situations, but found nothing useful.

  If the column contains more than 1 value then browser. Check in IE or Chrome.

• Guests of workstation running on VI3 infrastructure - issues?

  So far, we rotated only server O/S of our infrastructure VI3 (no treatment intense or interactive graphic type).  I wonder if I will support a few dozen invited workstation in this same environment. These guests could be interactive and graphic oriented. Is this a bad idea? Other people mix invited os server and workstation hosts in a single environment. We will be at a time looking for VDI and other desktop-oriented solutions in the near future. Optimization recommendations which should be made to these guests would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you

  We have about 8000 OS VM desktop computer and have seen great returns.  Most of them perform in their own instance of vCenter, but we have a handful that are running in the same vCenter as our server VM.  We created a new cluster for the Office of VM.

• Connectivity issues, the guests to "recover Web page" often enough.

  I use my wifi to connect through a router (they are close). And I had no problem since the purchase (3 weeks), the speed was very good. The last two days, the internet has been extremely slow when loading or I just get a prompt telling me to click to 'recover the Web page' on simple sites like electronic mail from Google. I have not tinkered with all parameters; nothing has changed with the router. I wonder what was wrong all of a sudden and which can change to improve the speed of connection. I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Thank you

  How should we ACTUALLY do about adding another user of BC to admin another site of BC.

• DRS and live Migration with the guest operating system issues

  Someone at - he never encountered problems with the DRS or dynamic migration where the OS in question invited crashes under the peaks of the processor. This seems to be with servers but not specific to 64-bit or 32-bit servers it sure substance of concern with machinery that uses a lot of CPU or memory crash when migrating on the fly. We have 7 of Quad-Core AMD BL465 with esx3.5 update1 DRS and HA active and animators have many resources to offer.

• Is there a known issue with Firefox 21 and Citrix ICA Client?

  After the upgrade to FireFox 21 my browser can no longer detect that I installed the Citrix ICA Client and he pushes me whenever I try to run a file from the internet .ica. After several facilities of the ICA Client to the guests, including the uninstall completely and then put it back, I ignored the prompt and tried to launch the .ica file. It will launch 1 single .ica window regardless of the number of .ica files I click on. (Firefox 20 would allow me to run several sessions citrix both.) Also, when the 1 citrix session is open, if I minimize it or make another program to the foreground the .ica window becomes black and is no longer usable because you can't see anything in this window.

  Hello Souldysfunction, please try this: enter Subject: config in the bar firefox address (confirm the message information where it appears) & search for the preference named plugins.load_appdir_plugins. • Why can't I configure guest network?

  TV, telephone and Internet are brought home through fiber TDS and distributed to households through ethernet.

  Actiontec modem/router (Model T 2200 H of TDS), is connected via LAN to my Airport Extreme (model HE ME918 / bought 08/09/15), and the primary network works fine.

  Recently, I tried to set up a network of comments and set up a name and a password. iPad, laptop or phone unable to connect to the Guest network.

  I have not noticed any IP address, subnet mask, router, DNS and search domains in the boxes associated with the network of comments.

  Is the router "does not fully with Airport Extreme" or something else.

  TDS is very focused on the PC and I found even any reference in section helps the router that they issued me so I'm not very confident that they will be a lot of help.

  Why can not put in place a network of comments?

  You have an Actiontec modem/router...and that you need a simple modem... If you want the function of feedback network works on the AirPort Extreme.

  When AirPort Extreme "sees" another router on the network, it is configured in Bridge Mode in order to avoid a situation where you have two routers on the same network, the two try to act as routers. That will produce any IP address conflicts and another called problem Double NAT... you do not want on your network.

  Unfortunately, the AirPort Extreme network comments feature won't work correctly when the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode.

  If Actiontec modem/router can be configured to operate as a simple modem.. .not one router... so the network comments feature will work correctly on the AirPort Extreme. Check with your provider to see if this could be a possibility.

• SCVMM and LUN Mapping issue

  We have C7000 blade Gen9 servers and manage through the HP ONEVIEW. We have installed HYPER V and in addition, we have 2 virtual machines running on that. We must create the Windows cluster to that. I therefore created a Virtual SAN Manager and assigned WWN to the virtual machine.

  When you assign the LUNS to the virtual machine, its not detecting not not the OS level. HITACHI V OPEN I added manually in the MPIO, but logic unit number is not visible. When I checked in the Device Manager it shows like device hidden in the server.

  Also I need a suggestion for the below,

  We have virtual machines HYPER v for SCVMM.

  Is it mandatory to have the Windows for SCVMM Failover Cluster in a virtualized environment?
  Also, have we not create HYPER V failover cLUSTER to manage the HYPER-V hosts in SCVMM?
  Cant, we manage the guest individually through SCVMM?
  If we all the Hyper-V cLUSTER, all guests will have 2 a throgh redundancy the Cluster FAILOVER and new to SCVMM. Whats is the best practice.

• Upgrade to LabVIEW caused 2012 issue additional installers

  Hello again all you lovers forum useful!

  I've been using LabVIEW 2010 (SP1) for awhile on my Windows XP computer, but I recently bought and installed LabVIEW 2012 for a future project.  In the meantime, my previous projects should always use LabVIEW 2010 until I use the tracking system of formal changes to my company to upgrade.  However, when I opened recently one of my old projects in 2010 to update and rebuild the installer, I saw in the tab other installers a bunch of empty lines at the end of the list (see screenshot).  This is not directly the hurt, but I think it's a symptom of the root problem.

  Most directly concerned, the NI VISA Run-Time 5.0.3 which had been checked before was now gone and the NI-VISA Run-Time 5.2 driver which had replaced it has NOT been verified.  That seems like an upgrade oops on part of National Instruments for me.  I decided that it was just a thing, and that the installer of 2012 had replaced my 5.0.3 version with version 5.2 (removal of the old version), so I checked the version 5.2 to build my Installer, and after having demanded that my DVD to copy the software on my computer, which seemed to work ok.

  Now the immediate problem: when I distributed the project file to a colleague that has LabVIEW 2010, she was not able to build my software installation, because he asked her to drive "FADEC_Emulator".  "FADEC_Emulator" is the name of my software.  Expansion of the error dialog box showed that he wanted the drive for access to NI VISA Run-Time 5.0.3.  Open the properties of the installer in the project file in LabVIEW showed NEITHER VISA Run-Time checked 5.0.3.  However, the project of opening with Wordpad file showed that NEITHER VISA Run-Time 5.2 has been listed as an extra Installer (and NOT 5.0.3  Maybe its system because I wanted NEITHER VISA Run-Time 5.2 and replaced it automatically with the latest version, he had, 5.0.3?  Confusing!  And if he did it, why he had that version already practicing?  And versions of switching as it seems it would be a bad idea to do it silently, in case I was counting on a specific feature of the new version.

  I'm afraid that since installing LabVIEW 2012 my system got in an unstable state, and now I possibly corrupted my LV project project file.  I need to have in 2010 and 2012 on my computer at the moment.

  Does anyone have an idea of what's going on with my system, or how to fix it?

When I opened the project from 2010 to 2012, VISA Run-Time 5.2 has been verified (as expected, dissimilar to your configuration). As I mentioned earlier, this may have been because VISA 5.2.0 did not install correctly.

  In this case, I built the installation program on LabVIEW 2012 with VISA RT 5.2.0 then saved for LabVIEW 2010 compatibility. When I open the installer in a LabVIEW with VISA 5.0.3 2010 environment, VISA 5.0.3 has been verified (as planned since LabVIEW by default to the latest version of VISA on the PC, no matter what the original installer referenced). I did, however, see three additional empty lines in the additional installers (see below) tab. I also tried to build the Setup program that you have indicated, but did not get all the guests for the discs and was able to successfully build.

  One thing to keep in mind is that default LabVIEW uses the version of the driver that is installed on the PC version, whether it is newer or older than the installer references. If you feel that this has a negative impact on your success as a developer, please do not hesitate to post a feature request (for example, a guest at changes of the version of the driver) in our forum for the exchange of idea (http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/idb-p/labviewideas ).

  Finally, regarding empty lines in the additional installation specifications, this problem seems to be fixed in LabVIEW 2012 and manifests itself only in 2010. During my trial class, this does not affect installers of construction and is a minor inconvenience that has been fixed in later versions.
