HA failover without a reboot?

Hello

I did some research forum to discover the answer, but all discussions were 4 years and more.  We currently have an EVC Cluster with 3 5.0 ESXi hosts, vCenter 5.0 also running.  HA now operates in the sense that if an ESXi server goes down (from form) the virtual machine will migrate and restart.  Is it possible to implement HA who will migrate the virtual machine without a reboot?  I assumed that it would take some kind of sharing our resources storage device, but does have not seen docs on the subject on the VMWare site.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi and welcome to the forums

The solution VMware to achieve this goal is "Fault Tolerance" call FT

FT is basically a mirror copy of the virtual machine on a different host and keep the memory and the CPU to lock stage share the same disk.

As soon as the main host of the virtual computer fails, the VM FT will take over and create a new "copy" on another host in the cluster.

See: http://www.vmware.com/products/fault-tolerance/overview.html

However, there are a few restrictions.

Supported only for 1 vCPU VMs

See your cluster is active EVC, it may not work in your environment.

VCA retires features CPU for all hosts in a cluster.

  • SWFVerification without restart/reboot the server

I was now two occurrences of SWFVerification is not activating when the values are added to the application.xml for a client application.

We allowed him with an empty dir, and any player will always through.

I tried to add a "is not not-really-the - player.swf" to confirm that he will reject all other connections, and they always get through.

I tried to reload the Application, and which also had no effect.

In a previous proceeding, only after the virtual server is restarted, SWFVerification will start to work.

This question quite important for us - as we host 100 s other connections of client application on several boxes that make SWFverification is not just simple 'reboot' these boxes.

Any suggestion on how to get SWFVerification to work without having to restart the virtual server or FMS itself?

    Thank you.

    -Va

    Figured it out.

From what I saw. the Admin "unloadApp" command is not an effect the SWFVerification. However, "reloadApp" seems to indulge the SWFVerification on a modified application.

  • Failover without VIP/SCAN

    DB Version: 10 gr 2, 11 2 GR
    Operating system: Solaris 5.10

I understand the concepts of VIP. Lets say for a 2 RAC node, I have not used the VIP in the TNS entry for my Client.

If a node goes down, the failover will happen again but only after a few minutes. Right? That is to say. the failover is performed by the listener in the surviving node when he realizes error of connection timeout from the dead node.

If you use only Public IPs in your entry of TNS, the failover will always happen, but only after that only a 'time of connection' is detected. But this may take some minutes.

    Switch Audio device without rebooting

    Hello

I have a HD TV hooked like a monitor to my desktop via a HDMI cable to a HD video card. The video works wonderfully, but for some reason, the sound goes is more easily. I used to be able to simply change the audio output on the computer to the HDMI output rear speakers and restart the program to get a sound through the TV. Now, I have to restart my computer everytime I spend to make it work. It works but I would like to be able to switch back without rebooting.

Can anyone help? I don't know what happened, he used to work without a reboot and now does not work. This happened some time ago, if I'm afraid, I can't give any details about what caused it.

    Thank you!

    Hi Cameling,

I suggest that you update the latest audio drivers for your computer. You can log the support site of the manufacturer to do so.

  • install Vmware Tools without rebooting

We need to update the VMware Tools automatically without a reboot. The reboot will be during a security patch deployment.

What is the procedure for that. ?

Check out http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1018377 for command-line syntax, or manually, use the Upgrade of interactive tools and choose not to restart. Automatic upgrade tools will restart without asking for confirmation.

  • 9i - installation without reboot

    Hello

Is it possible to install XDB without a reboot of the server? I would like to install the most recent Application Express, however to get approval for a restart of the server will be the great task.

    Kind regards
    Matthew Watson.

It is then a simple "change system registry" dispatcher via the account sys should suffice.

APEX using Apache is a possibility on 9.2.0.3.

It is tricky to XDB resettlement in 9.2. Run cayqm.sql several times if one breaks down. Catnoqm.SQL will destroy the XDB repository so you will lose everything depended on (not created by XDB, if for example your app schema).

  • SQL Express LocalDB Path missing until reboot

We have just upgraded one of our Installer components required for SQL Express LocalDB 2014 (SP1) since the 2012 version.

The problem is that LocalDB installer does not update the path environment variable, so when the main installer try subsequently call slqlocaldb it fails because it cannot find the executable file.

The path variable does not seem to be updated after a reboot, but the LocalDB installer does not prompt for this (and anyway it would be a pain).

Everyone knows this? Is a workaround to enable the change of the path without a reboot?

This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)

  • Cable to failover to PIX515E

I would like to know if it is possible to configure two PIX 515 for failover without cable with failover.

In other hands: is it possible to use an ethernet interface (already used for a DMZ) in order to exchange the "pulse" between two PIX 515?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

Yes, it is possible. This feature is called the LAN-based failover. It is available in version 6.2 and higher.

  • Do I need two AIP - SSM modules if I'm failover configuration?

Is it possible to use a single module AIP - SSM in two ASA that is configured in active / standby?

I would like to configure the module in the first ASA with the relief setting.  Then, if the ASA first fails, I could physically remove the module AIP - SSM and place it in the second ASA.

Would there be problems, configure it in this way?

Would be the active / standby ASA complaining that there is that one module AIP - SSM?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

You must have an AIP - SSM on two SAA in order to be able to run the failover, without it failover will not come to the top (because of incompatibility of hardware)

    Kind regards
