Handspring Visor Deluxe desktop problem

I used a Handspring Visor with Windows XP Home Edition for the past 3 years with any problem until October of this year.  I tried to open the office program that came with the visor and it failed with the message "invalid address file" and the error message referred me to Palm Support web site.

I downloaded the update 401 installed and original program on the computer and tried to HotSync, but she doesn't have a sync.  I have tried the following updates: USBREGClean, HS_Updater & DSTUpdater and reinstalled the original program and update (401) but always without success to get the office program to open ot HotSync.

Any suggestions before I throw the visor away.  I want to continue to use the visor...  Have used the visor for the last 2 months, I am very worried because I can't add on the desktop.  I thought that the Windows Update has been cuaing the problem and returned to a point of restoration in September when the last HotSync worked, but again without success.

Try the following steps to see if you can get Palm Desktop to open.

With Palm closed desktop on your PC, go to computer, c drive or local drive, program files, palm or palmone, find your user folder (it will be a contraction of the name of user in palm desktop), find the address folder and rename it to address.old. Click on the Palm Desktop and see if it opens. If it doesn't, change the conduit in hotsync manager for handheld overrides desktop and sync.

    First of all, I'm new to these forums, so if I posted this in the wrong place, I apologize.  Please, just direct me to the appropriate forum.

    I lost the battery cover to my Visor Deluxe, that I discovered when a battery is dropped and I lost all my data and applications.  The batteries are now saved in, and I did a HotSync the night before the battery is out, so I expect to be able to recover everything by an another HotSync.  But at the end of the HotSync (while it says "Cleaning - please wait"), I get the following message: 'You now need to reset your Pocket PC by pressing the button below,' that says "Reset".  Once I press the button, the screen has a big 'P' logo say with the words "Palm Computing Platform" underneath and I can't or do this screen go away, or turn off your handheld.  I repeated several times (after erasing the data again) and got the same results.

    Before the HotSync, I'm going to the HotSync of Palm Desktop 4.0.1 custom dialog box (in Windows XP SP3) and replace pipes for calendar, address book, task list, Notepad and system "Desktop replaces PDA; I let it install and install the Service models the Enabled value.  HotSync produces the following log:

    Note that HotSync is supposed to upgrade the OS 3.1H2 to 3.1H3 Palm.  Also note that, with the exception of this upgrade, each file is installed twice.

    I solved the problem by:

    (1) do a hard reset

    (2) removing the application, balance between personal life and its directory data files backup

    (3) do a HotSync (after the first HotSync settings for "Desktop replaces handheld")

    (4) reinstall personal life balance - and its files - from the backup directory

  • Visor Deluxe Questions

    I have what I think is a Visor Deluxe (black, 8MB, OS3.1H2). I don't have it synchronized for probably 5 years or more (I had set it up on an old machine with Win98 and he's dead).

    We recently retired and travel for about half of the year and I would like to use it as an ebook download reader to it through our laptop that is running Vista 64-bit.

    We also have a desktop computer (who is not traveling with us; o)) which is running XP.

    After doing some research, it seems that there is a problem with the help of Vista 64-bit. I hope someone can tell me if the 64-bit Vista or XP will work with the visor for hotsync or download ebooks?

    1. For 64-bit Vista Hotsync questions, please see this thread stickied at the top of the Board of Windows Hotsync.
    2. For eBooks, you must use eReader for Palm , or a compatible application for any format of eBooks that you want to download.
    3. Personally, I think you will find that the Visor Deluxe will be relatively slow and difficult for eBooks.  The screen is small and low resolution.  If this will be your main goal with the Palm, you would be much better served by finding a Palm T5 or TX, refurbished or used with their screens wide, high-resolution, color.  Just my opinion.
  • Visor Deluxe crashes during reset

    I found nothing through searches then maybe someone might be able to help with my camera of dino

    I have what I believe to be a Visor Deluxe (it's the translucent blue case, 8 MB). There OS3.1H2

    Whenever it needs to be reset (software install, for example) it will go to the Palm Logo screen and just stay there.  He's going to stay on this screen until I have or do a reset of the system (reset button) and then I'm stuck in safe mode, or pull on the battery, or do a reset complete. It won't even turn off after two minutes and power down.

    For this reason, I use it as an ebook reader, since I have to wipe completely load just some ebook that I want to read and read, hoping that I won't have to recharge the system.

    I use a Mac, Leopard, and I use Missing Sync to synchronize/Office management.

    I know this is an old feature, but if anyone has any advice, I would be happy.

    Well, after... .i know... a year with this problem?  Can I save and post here and then go and do more troubleshooting and find that the app Missing Sync that get installed configuration does not work on my visor in all cases (needs os 4). So I remove it, I was wondering if this could be the problem.  Of course, things work now, I could apply the BONE development and upgrade my 'Palm Reader' to the latest version of "eReader" and now the unit is useful (I bet that handspring memory module can even be used again!

  • Handspring Visor is a "unrecognized USB device" for Windows XP

    Hello World-

    I feel as if I have a career to synchronize my PDA hot! I used to hotsync regularly on my old HP Windows 98 machine, and now that I have this new (er) eMachines Windows XP Pro system, I got nothing but heartache. Here's the situation:

    My Visor Deluxe runs Palm OS 3.1H3, apparently the latest version which will work with it. The computer is running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have hotsync a few times when I got to the computer, but it has never been reliable. Now I surely CAN NOT synchronize! When I press the button on the cradle, Windows hotsync ALWAYS reports, "USB device not recognized" and of course the visor says he couldn't make contact with the office.

    HotSync manager is running (I have the blue and red arrow on the taskbar icon), and if I look at the Device Manager when I try to sync, is apparently trying to get the driver, he simply painted the same list. The list does NOT include the Palm, Handspring or unknown devices.

    I followed the directions "clean uninstall" I found on this forum and re-installed Palm Desktop 4.01. That worked once a week or two ago, but now when I arrive at the end of the installation, when I'm supposed to hot sync, I get the error not recognized USB.  I even tried to install Palm Desktop software version 6.2, but which ended up in a mess - I was getting errors like "Ordinal 23 could not bewildered because of the trajectory messed up', or words to that effect... I think it's ok for XP, but not "peripheral" as my trusty old visor :-)

    I know I should try to use the same configuration on another computer to be sure that the visor is ok, but I don't have access to another machine; In addition, the PDA has no other wierdness. Soft resets do nothing, but I don't want to try a hard reset until I get everything synced to the top! I am at my wit's end and don't know what else to try. I tried both my cribs and a number of different USB connections both at the front and the back of the PC. The USB hardware in the computer seems to be fine with everything else - mouse, camera, mp3, flash drives. I'm beginning to suspect that I need to plug with USB 1 and these are 2 USB, but I don't know how to check either of these things, or how "throttle" in the case, I have to use the USB as soon as possible.

    I was with you until the end. I hate to ask, but could you clarify this just a little:

    Ok. I read three "if" statements, and try to understand what is meant here. If they ask you a user name AND if I synced before, AND if I do not synchronize before creating a hotsync name, I put in 'test '. Means I can't use the name I used for this camera? Or are you suggesting that, really, should I open Palm Desktop and create the username before I hotsync for the first time (after the new installation)?

    I * have * synchronized before, and I don't plan to sync until everything is set up right, which to me should mean that Palm Desktop is ready with a username to match your handheld.

    Also, these indications seem in conflict which advised you to in the first paragraph, where you said:

    When you install Palm desktop, skip the hotsync process and complete the installation. After installation, adjust the conduit in hotsync manager for handheld overrides desktop, then synchronize with PC. During the connection process, it will ask you a username, enter the same username which is located in the upper right of the screen on your handheld hotsync.

    It * seems * that what you say I have to do is:

    (A) clean uninstall - move data to safe places, uninstall, and then remove all traces of "Palm" and "Handspring" of the registry.

    (B) restart the computer.

    (C) install Palm desktop, but not hot sync again.

    (D) open Palm Desktop, add the user name (Tools/users) and set the lines for handheld overrides Desktop.

    (E) hot sync.

    Isn't it? Sorry to be so simple, but I want to make sure to proceed exactly right. Thank you very much for your reply and for your help.

  • My Handspring Visor/Palm has a memory card?

    I have an old Handspring Visor (I'm guessing it's 3-4 years) and I was wondering if it has a memory card which can be downloaded? I mainly use this device Handspring read my blood sugar and store customer contact information. However, I recently gave up and it no longer works. All regular backups were performed on a PC to my work, but I'm no longer with this company and I have no access to this information either. Does anyone know if there is a memory card from your Palm device and if so, how can I get the "contact information" of him (it has all my clients in the database of the address)? If she doesn't have a memory card device, does anyone have an idea where I could possible take/send my Handspring for help with this problem? Finally, please note that I am 50 years old and have a marginal understanding of PC or Palm devices.

    (1) if the battery to the point where handheld does not have

    Turn on, it stores your data securely for about two weeks. In this case,.

    There is enough residual energy in the battery to store the data, but

    does not turn on your handheld computer. If your Pocket PC is not

    turns on when you press the power button, you need to load the

    battery immediately.

    (1) If you leave an empty battery in the handheld for a scope

    period of time, you can loose all stored data. In this case,.

    Charge the battery and use the reset button to reset your Pocket PC.

    After resetting your pocket computer, perform a HotSync operation to

    restore the data from your computer.

  • E-mail POP with a Visor Deluxe

    So far, I have configured a Visor Deluxe using Multimail to send messages via an infrared connection to a mobile phone using a modem connection.

    I use a gmail account to send, but for now he won't pick up any mail using pop3 settings.

    Mail.free - .net dialup dialup e-mail address works if you put it on the line of the Server SMTP of Multimail options.

  • Display form OptiPlex GX620 desktop problem

    I have an Optiplex GX620 Desktop FF computer which was given to our Church for the office. I have recently installed 4 GB of RAM and a 80GB HDD SATA white. I have connected to a TV high definition with a PC connection.

    When I turn on the computer, two things happen:

    (1) the TV on the PC channel screen remains empty.

    (2) the computer will beep twice and 1-2-3 lights on the front is green.

    This could be a problem with the graphics/display in the computer card and what can I do to solve this problem?

    The add in video card with LFH connector can have Dual VGA. A dell cable would also a 1 and a 2 on it to indicate what monitor is 1 vs 2.

    Or remove the riser and pull out the card. Blue plastic parts are the locking tabs.

    I just downloaded the latest Palm Desktop software.  every time I sync, I get a fatal exception error.  all I want to do is save what is on this old visor and a transfer it to my most recent Zire 72.  In fact, I need help on these two questions if anyone can help me... PLEASE, I BEG YOU!  I have well over 100 names and addresses and we will never have to transfer.
