Hanging of Dell T110 II

I just got a Dell T110 II server for personal training and experience.  I signed up for a free license for ESXi 5 to use for this purpose, then did research on several weeks to find the material that he would support a price rang I could afford.  Thus, this machine is pretty bare bones.  He got a Xeon E3-1230 (4 core with HT), 4 GB of ECC memory, a Controller PERC H200, a SAS 7200 RPM 500 GB hard drive and a DVD player.  I also bought a flash drive 8 GB USB HP (about 25 MB/s transfer rate) to put the hypervisor and I could book the entire hard drive for the virtual machines.  I have a 8 GB memory kit and two cards of 1 GB PCIe Intel to expand capabilities, as well, but they have not yet shown.

ESXi 5 installs and starts perfectly.  I am able to configure and manage my main system.  However, after about an hour, the system just hangs.  It doesn't matter if I do something with it, or do nothing.  I might have no VM, or up to 4, and she always does.  (4 has been as high as I had, and he hung up as soon as I was building the 4th with CentOS 6.2)  To help out, I tried to use the 500 GB drive (take the USB flash drive) as the installation point and put in a 1 TB drive, I got around (both drives are Seagate) to organize the virtual machines.  The same problem.  I tried to use the USB flash drive and an external USB drive to store virtual machines.  Same thing.  I tried to use completely different (some 750 GB WD Caviar Black drives I have my main computer) hard drives.  Same thing.  I did not try to change anything else, as I don't have much server grade hardware.  It is certainly not the heat, as the time in my room run fairly cold below 70F.  The machine itself recorded never time CPU above 36 c, and the Council itself has never had more than 38 c, according to the BMC journals.

So, I tried other things. I installed Windows 2008 R2 and let idle.  No crash, ran late for 48 hours.  I installed CentOS 6.2.  Ran fine for 48 hours.  So, this is definitely a problem of VMWare.  The equipment is all on the compatibility list, but it won't work right. I don't know what to try next.  Are there drivers I need to improve?  Y at - there a patch I don't know?

It hangs it with any consistency or it crashes it 5 minutes after starting once, 30 minutes after the other and 4 hours starting another? It seems to me like its more a hardware problem with Esxi compatibility. Have you checked all the BIOS of your settings, is there any activated energy saving settings?

    Restore point:

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

  • Help with controller S100 T110

    Hello

I have Dell T110 with S100, configured as below:

    RAID 5 (disk 0:0, 0:1, 0:2) + spare (0:3).

the first records of towing are (original Dell 500 gaeremynck 7.2 k), and the rest are WD 500 gaeremynck 64 MB, green!

in fact, after I added these towing WD drives, later I found that the number of turns of this No 7.2 k disks, there as a reference WD intellipower on their site.

In the exercise, it is a bit slow as I can see.

Q1: is it no problem to keep this configuration because it is? or should I still replace the WD with 7.2 k to match him exist Dell disks.

    Q2: if I change the last disk in Raid 5 with (t. 1, B) 7.2 k will solve the weakness? I don't know what happened with raid 5 with (500 x 2 + 1 T. B gaeremynck)

Q3: How can I replace this disk without losing any data?

    Thanks for reading.

    1. I would never use green or red disks in a server.  I would say get company certified Dell readers as a first troubleshooting step.

    2. you will use the available 1 TB 500 GB and the rest of the space will not be usable.  You must reconfigure RAID 5 from scratch to go a 4 drive RAID 5 3-drive RAID 5.

3 remove the drive, replace the drive and rebuild it in the table.  As well stated, you cannot pass of 4 drives in RAID 5 to 3.

Suggestion 1: Obtain the certification or business readers.  Do not use office/NAS discs.

Suggestion 2: Do not use RAID 5 unless you have to.  RAID 10 would be faster in most cases.

Note: The S100 is a very low range software RAID controller - it don't expect good performance.

I have a Dell T110 II with SBS 2011 Server installed. I get an error message Bootmgr missing

When I boot to the installation media and select Repair, the repair goes directly to recreate the Image on your computer and does not give me the options described in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2501318

I have a backup, but would rather just repair the bootmgr but I can't go to the repair of the tools on the installation media

    Thanks for any help.

  • RESOLVED: Loop of reboot after installing new disks in RAID of PERC S100

A customer has a Dell T110 (with a PERC S100 RAID controller) running Windows 2008 R2. The system has two disks: a reader not RAID (C :) running the operating system and a RAID1 drive (E :) sharing data with network folders.) We need to install again, larger disks for the RAID.

I thought I could backup the data on the RAID drive existing (e), install new disks, built a new table in the S100 (VDM) virtual disk boot manager, boot into the operating system, create the new partition for the data replaced E: drive and copy the data back. This was not the case. After installing the new disks and the new array of construction (which is reported as "READY (R/W)" when starting, Windows starts all the way in "press CTRL-ALT-DEL to log". After two or three seconds, the system reboots. The same thing happens when I try to start safe mode. The system IS NOT automatically booted to the Recovery Console. He never seems to know that an error occurred and the system was not shut down normally.

I booted into the Recovery Console, installed the drivers for the PERC S100 and run recovery to start without success. Also in the Recovery Console, I ran 'chkdsk /f E:\. ' (remarkably, the drive letter for the data drive remained the same), and no error has been reported. I also reinstalled drivers S100 of the recovery using DISM Console, but that changed nothing.

I started to 8.1 Windows PE, installed drivers S100, formatted the virtual disk, copied the data which he, and everything works fine. The only problem is when I try to boot from the system drive (which has no problem) with the new installed disks.

When I put the old records, the system boots normally with no reconfiguration required. The VDM to start automatically remembers the discs and the table. Nothing shows up in the logs event indicating that there was an error during startup. (Ntbtlog.txt) start-up newspaper, after several boots with the new drives in place, indicates that the system restarts at various times during loading drivers. There is nothing coherent in the startup log to indicate what the problem is.

The only clue I have is that, during the startup, the VDM reports the virtual drive of origin as 'NORMAL (R/W)' and the new virtual disk as "READY (R/W)", but I'm not sure of the significance of this difference or if it suggests a solution.

I can't find clues in all the newspapers about what may be the problem. If anyone has any suggestions, I will be grateful. I'll be especially grateful for the wacky suggestions.

I ran it. Nothing appeared unusual. However, I does not solve the problem.

I connect the new readers to the same SATA ports as the old records. When I connect one of them to the SATA port that had not been used as part of the original painting, the VDM S100 reported the original failed array, because readers were is more connected and showed the new table as a LOAN. The operating system then started normally.

The trick, it seems that you should remove the old virtual disk before connecting the new disks on the same ports.

  • How to upgrade readers in my H200 RAID of larger size and SATA to SAS

We are upgrading hard drives in our Dell Poweredge T110, equipped with a PERC-H200A and two in RAID 1 TB mirrored SATA drives. We run the Dell T110 of ESXi 5.1 version and a single Windows Server Essentials 2012 VM.

We want to double our capacity of hard disk and the Support of Dell sold us 2 x 342-1020 (2 TB 7.2 K NL SAS, 6 G, 3.5, CB, CK) readers.

What is the easiest way to replace the existing SATA disks in the RAID with these new disks in the same configuration and EXSi / VM / OS?

The controller manages RAID creating the new RAID and copy the data through somehow?
I add the new disks in a second DiskVolume and build a second (SAS) RAID and then somehow to clone or copy the original (SATA) RAID to the new then pass the boot device to the new (SAS) RAID?

    Thank you
    Dan

It is a different scenario than what addresses this thread, but to answer your question: Yes, you can remove a 1 TB SAS drive and replace it with another drive SAS to rebuild.

  • How can I reinstall / store data recovery an ESXi 4.1 lost during an upgrade to 5.5?

I was running a host of ESXi 4.1 on a Dell T110 II with two RAID, a managed arrays by the controller integrated RAID that contained the system of ESXi and a small data store (channel) and the other controlled by a 6405e Adaptec controller which contained my main data store (BunkerHill). In the process of upgrading from 4.1 to ESXi 5.5, I forgot to include the drivers for the Adaptec 6405e controller and even if the upgrade of the host, he did not see the BunkerHill data store.

I downloaded and installed the VIB for the controller 6405e and after restart the host ESXi 5.5 shows the Adaptec RAID under storage adapters, but the BunkerHill data store is still not visible and all virtual machines guests appearing on this show as unknown in the inventory. The channel data store and two invited VMS it holds are visible. Below a part of the kernel log is filtered on the RAID controller device name.

I would like to get the recognizable BunkerHill data store before continuing the upgrade and would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction (KB article, display, etc. that explains what I do). I need to reinstall 4.1 on the work of RAID (ESXi 5.5 and channel data bank) and then trying to reconnect the main data store, or are there changes I can do from the console to manually get the market things?

    Tips are appreciated,

    Thank you

  • ESXi 5.1 cannot start a virtual machine with Admission check has no memory error

I see that there were a number of people who have this error and adjusting the reserve memory for the VIM under resources system has solved this problem, but not for me. My booking in the VIM process setting is '0'. Vital signs:

    Reference Dell T110 II server

    4 GB OF RAM

    Intel Xeon processor E31220 @ 3.10 GHz

    4 cores of the processor

    Hard drive 500 GB

    ESXi version 5.1

A Linux VM with 4 GB RAM allocation, 2 cores of CPU and 45 GB of storage.

Error I get on a attempted to start:

Has no power on the virtual machine.

Could not power on VM: check for Admission has no resource memory see the management of VMware ESX Resource Guide for management information settings.

Group vm.4757: invalid memory for VM vmm0:Mitel_Applications_Suite allocation settings. (min: 524288, max:-1, minLimit:-1 actions:-4, units: pages)

Group vm.4757: can not admint VM: admission of memory has failed. booking request: 536579 pages

I changed the memory to the VM all the way up to 1 GB, no change.

I played a bit with the allocation of memory VIM, no change.

A fact interesting is that the Allocation of resources for the tab host watch memory @ 1747MB capacity, capacity reserved @ 0MB and available @ 1747MB capacity, but I have 4 GB of RAM and the vSphere Client shows it under the Configuration tab.

Take a look at this blog post: http://www.vmwarearena.com/2012/07/failed-to-power-on-vm-admission-check.html

  • VMAP eliminates ESXi and VCenter Lab installs, thanks to greedy Pirates.

I run a class of Virtualization Technologies. My college has acquired a subscription of VMAP mainly to use to set up our training lab.

We run 18 servers Dell T110 with 16 GB of memory.

We also run 18 desktops Dell with 8 GB of memory.

Here's how I run the class of 16 weeks (used to):

    Each student would be:

    1. Install a version of eval of 180 days of Windows 2008 R2 on a bare desktop.
    2. Install Workstation 8 on the desktop. Introduce students to the concepts of virtual machines. Workstation is ideal for this.
    3. Bring their own USB 16 GB class and install ESXi 5.0 on it running on the server.
    4. Install the VCenter Server (and client) directly on the desktop.
    5. Create a VM virtual host two additional ESXi
    6. Create an another VM of the VCenter Server virtual appliance.
    7. Start creating virtual machines, Clusters, ect.

The point is, each student will learn a wide range of features in VSphere. Each student has at least THREE ESXi licenses and need TWO licenses of VCenter Server.

At the end of the class, the laboratory is demolished (uninstalled all the software).

The VMAP subscription that my college bought recently announced that Install lab licenses are more offered for VCenter or ESXi products.

Now, I only use the version of 60 days?

Is there any way around this?

I could create 50 or so "student users" and get the individual keys for each. I would then have to use each key individually on all hosts in the laboratory.

Students enrolled in this class were very happy to try the VSphere environment, something they could not do at home.

Why not just offer the installation lab keys that have a duration of 1 year. This woul be more long enough for any semester length class.

Or VMware wants to only close the non academic 'partner' classes offered. The "certified" classes use the same account VMAP of Kivuto however. How do they make their laboratories?

Other classes in this direction have found that the best way to run the class is to one) ask students to work in pairs or larger teams, so that they can share their licenses; and (b) have them download license keys themselves, as you suggest. They don't necessarily three license keys for ESXi each however, given that each license key has an associated CPU count (2 or 4, depending on the product) which can be used to activate the host several processors. Note that we recently made vCloud Suite available to students in addition to vSphere, which in the past was only available for teachers and staff, so there are various options for which products the students use in class.

Happy to discuss this further with you help succeed your class.

    Hi all

Ive got a new i - 3 DELL T110 II server which will be used for the backup of virtual machines on an ESX 4.0 host.

IM under ESXi 5.1 to a USB flash drive on an internal slot, but this is where I'm looking for assistance.

Ive got 3 x 500 GB sata drives that I intend to run a RAID 5 configuration, but doesn't quite do all homework and Im stuck stuck with a PERC S100 RAID controller.

Virtual machines that I will support up to are limited resources Suse Linux servers - be bad using veeam backup on the ESXi host.

I was able to combine the 3 disks in a data store on the ESXi host, but that is not really giving me any redundancy with the readers, if one of them fails.

    Question:

Should I bite the bullet and get a hardware RAID controller? If Yes, who would probably be the best compatible model?

    Or

Is there any other configuration I can configure to provide redundancy on my data without the need to use a hardware RAID card.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

Hardware RAID is always a better solution/practice. Please take a look at the http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=san HCL and select the appropriate pattern you are looking and confirm his support. Hope that answers your query.

  • ESXi host sees no data store after the reboot

    Hi all

I'm new to the community and ESXi itself.  Everything has been working great until today when I rebooted my host.

I installed it on a Dell T110 server, we had in the back for testing.  It has a 250 GB HARD drive installed in the case.  ESXi installed fine and I had 220 GB or more storage at my disposal.  Multiple VM installed, and once again, everything seems to work properly.

Today, I wanted to activate usb passthrough for a Server 2008 VM I installed it, I went through the process and had to reboot the host at the end.

After the restart, he seems to have forgotten the HARD disk that is installed and is no longer, I see my store data or virtual machine access I had running.

There are a couple screenshots attachedthat screen what I see.

Thanks for any help or advice!

Is this the same controller that is attached to the 250 GB HARD drive? Passing the controller to the virtual computer may have unpresented it host, then you won't be able to access and to store configuration settings. Since this is a test system you can consider / try to run "Reset System Configuration" from the DCUI. If this does not work, you may need to reinstall ESXi of CD (the VMFS retaining of course data store).

  • What is Custom round quickly enough?

    Hi all

I spent several days, price of the options for building a computer of virtualization so that I can refine my Active Directory skills at home. I want to be able to run six or seven instances of Server 2008 R2 (some of them are DCs) with several installed roles, as well as a few client computers. I am building a fictitious network infrastructure in order to test and break things and try to correct them. I've narrowed my list of parts and it would be appreciated if someone could tell me if there are potential pitfalls with this particular combination:

    $1 250

    1) motherboard ASUS 990FX AMD AM3 + TUFF

    2) processor AMD FD8150FRGUBOX FX - 8150 8-Core CPU (L3 8 MB, 8 MB L2 cache, 3.6 GHz, 125 W)

    http://www.TigerDirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1308191 & SKU = A79-8150

    3) RAM 32 GB Corsair CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10 RAM revenge (PC3-12800, DDR3 1600 MHz DIMM 240-pin)

    http://www.TigerDirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1610526 & SKU = C13-5708

    4) PSU Ultra X 4 750 Watt modular power supply (135 mm fan, ATX, 80 + Bronze, Active PFC)

    http://www.TigerDirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4558896 & SKU = U12-40504

    5) case Thermaltake VN300M1W2N Chaser MK - I Full Tower Gaming Case (ATX)
    http://www.TigerDirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=419876 & SKU = T925-3082

    6) for a HARD disk, I was going to something SATA 6.0 GB/s with no RAID.

I doubt that this combination corresponds to what you will find in the HCL.  Since VMWare virtualizes material, material comptabiles is key.  They did a good job to ensure a wide variety of servers are compatible.  Systems supported, you can find here

I would say something like the Dell T110-II, which is an entry level system that is on the HCL.  It is one now on Dell outlet for $699.00 giving leaves you little dough to improve another SATA drive and inflate the RAM to 32 GB.

    Thanks for your help

Normally you install ESXi as the OS and wape on the linux machine, but to set up a laboratory at home that you need VMware Workstation to run as an application on Linux.  (I have my computer in Windows 7 running on my Dell T110).

Side workstation, run the ESXi as the VM, then load in guest OS to run on the ESXi.  Virtual machine in a virtual machine.

I think normally if you don't have a DVD drive, you can start ESXi of the SAN, but now it's a lab at home you are talking about.

I think that in YouTube there are instructions on how to install ESXi on VMware Workstation.
