  • Windows Internet Explorer opens automatically at startup of the Facebook page

I use Windows Vista Home Premium software on a Gateway computer. For some reason any start-up, my Windows Internet Explorer is automatically upwards, and there a Web Facebook.com page already on the screen asking you to sign up for Facebook. It flashes at the bottom of my screen until I click on it. I don't want no internet will automatically launch and I want either of Facebook. How can I keep internet start automatically without my even clicking on it? Thanks for the help.

    Dear Rachel,

    Please, try the following steps.

    (1) check that the homepage of your Internet Explorer is not "facebook.com" - could be found under Tools-> Internet Options-> general, in the section "Home Page." If you do not have "facebook.com" written there, replace it with another site that you want to load when you start your browser or with "subject: empty ' If you just want a blank window is displayed when you run your browser.

    (2) on your Start menu, choose programs-> startup programs list. If "Internet Explorer" is in the list, just simply delete.

((3) if (2)) does not help, try running 'msconfig' (choose Run from the Start Menu and just type "msconfig" in the window that appears), go to "Startup" and uncheck a box near point "Windows Internet Explorer".

    I hope this helps!

If this does not work in safe mode and then disable all your extensions and then try to find out who is causing by allowing both the problem reappears.
You can use 'Disable all add-ons' on the start safe mode window.

  • How can I disable a shortcut that says 'open in Internet Explorer' and default back to FF

I use FF as my default browser. A few shortcuts work best in Internet Explorer, so I select the option 'Open in Internet Explorer' and it works fine. Now I would like to cancel one of these shortcuts and opened it in FF by the original. I tried to delete the shortcut, but all new shortcut FF for this website automatically opens in Internet Explorer.

How to cancel this initial transfer to IE so it opens again in FF?

"Open in Internet Explorer" is not a default feature, it is added by one of a few different extensions. If you tell us exactly which you have installed the extension, we can help to change the preference of the frame far from opening this page in Internet Explorer.
