Hard disk RAID configuration for R610

Hi all

I'm new to virtualization, and after reading the documents a lot, a lot, I think I'm starting to get my head around the concepts in the installation and operation of ESXi and VMs.

My plans are to purchase a Dell R610 with the 'ESXi v4.0 2CPU Embedded, 0 year Upgrade Subscription basis, on SD card' which I think gives me basic ESXi host that can be managed remotely using VMWares free Vsphere Client?

I'm not sure however how best to configure the machine hard drives.

Initially, I was counting RAID1 on 2 x 15 k 146 GB and RAID5 (1 HS) on 4 x 10 k 146 GB with the RAID1 for readers of virtual machine system and RAID5 for data etc.

But I think I can miss something fundemental of how VMs are different to normal physical machines? Is it easy/possible/useful to have a VMs data on a separate hard drive to his BONES? None of the VMS provided for are very taxing on the material.

Is it better to say just to have the (1 HS) 5 x 146 GB RAID5 or RAID10 6 x 146 GB 15 k vs. 10 k would make much difference?

Currently all virtual machines and their data will be stored locally. The delve into virtualization to be successul then focus on DAS or more probably a SAN iSCSI in the future.

My apologies that it is largely on the material possible, rather than just on ESXi. I hope that you can be able to give some advice.

Generally agree with the sixth, what is needed is a storage subsystem able to provide the number of the IOPS / s random evenly as required by multiple virtual machines running.

The PERC 6i in these machines is a controller fast - so a RAID-5 volume with many drives high speed as possible give the best performance. Don't bother separating out the VM disks, it was never really advantage anyway, and waste IOPS / s because there are less pins available to deal with the simultaneous overall workload.

Do not forget to spec the BBWC (think it's standard on this server in any case).

Also, by the way, I noticed that the cost is almost cut in half with 48GB of RAM as apposed to 64 GB.

Please give points for any helpful answer.

I have a Mac Mini with a Fusion 1 TB drive. What is the recommended size for a backup drive in a RAID 1 using Time Machine configuration?

The general consensus is that player TM (or readers in your case) should be twice the size of Mac disk.

  • How partition an external hard drive and configure for Time Machine backup?

I am a rookie just to switch to Windows Apple Mac and I'm looking to back up my new iMac with a Seagate hard drive 2 TB external.  My Mac is a 1 TB hard drive, I'm looking to partition for backup and storage.  Is this a good idea?  Is there a simple way to do it?  I appreciate any help I can get.  I also bought three years of Apple support, but I'd rather do it myself, so I thought I'd give this discussion from the community to try.  Thank you!!

No, it isn't. Your working data and backups must be on separate drives in case one of them goes down.

    Hey guys,.

I would like to upgrade the HARD drive in my G30 and don't know what's compatible.
At present, they are readers of stocks 120 GB MK1234GSX.

I foung the MK3252GSX (250GB) but it is ATA8, while current drives are ATA7.
    Is this a problem?

No one knows what larger capacity disks I can enter the G30?

    See you soon
    Gerald

What you need is a SATA HDD.
The G30 supports SATA controllers and that's why you should use hard drives SATA (and not the IDE)

    > I found the MK3252GSX (250GB) but it is ATA8, while current drives are ATA7.
    Is this a problem?
The new interface of ATA8 is faster than the ATA7 (133 MB/s) but it s compatible down to other ATA standards. Therefore, you can use the disk HARD of ATA8 too.

    > Anyone know what larger capacity disks I can enter the G30?
I don't know if you will be able to insert big hard drives 250 GB due to the limitation of the BIOS, but someone said that a 320 might be compatible as Mr. but I never tested tough, so I really don t know if it s true or not.

  • Large files on hard disk too big for the Office

    Hello

Monday, that I decided to record a program on my Samsung TV, to record I need a hard drive, so I grabbed a 1 TB drive hard who hung out in my house. I have it plugged into my TV, but there is no space, I went on my Windows 7 computer, and saw that on my drive hard external I had very large game files and other random files that used the space, I want to keep these files and refuse to remove them, so I tried to copy on my desktop but my computer does not have the space to hold the files.

Then I tried to put the files in a ZIP compressed on the desktop, but I only did a single file at a time, which has been unusually slow and would probably take time, which currently I have much of. Surely, there must be a faster/more easier way to move files from the external hard drive to my computer desk.

    Thank you in advance,

    Oliver.

A lack of space cannot just disappear, the only option is a different drive if you can't delete some. Compression does not produce the benefits that it used to because many programs are much more effective with the use in native mode, and insofar as a compressed file may end up bigger than the source files. He can also use power of considerable treatment on top of slow connection with USB speed.

Also remember that if compress a file on a device connected via a slow connection it has the double effect. The file must be loaded into the buffer for the processor then the result wrote again on this connection.

  • How to use the recovery on a HP p6230f PC CD when the hard disk is configured with partitions

    Hello

I intend to use a recovery CD to get my HP p6230f PC.

I do not have this type of recovery before, so I want to just a few tips how to start.

Is it fair to boot from the CD and go through the process? what the current operating system, I installed on my PC Win 7 pro I got it free from the College last year and installed instead of Home premium.

is it need to format the c before that player?

    any help will be appreciated

    Hello

    I know what you mean

As you say, with a retail installation disc, you can choose exactly where you want to install the OS and leave the other partitions affected, unfortunately with recovery disks you do not have this option.

    Kind regards

  • ThinkStation D20 - RAID configuration

I read a lot of posts about the RAID configuration and again I am not having success.

    Current configuration

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

1 TB WD SATA drive c. optical port (can boot from this drive / everything works)

    2 c. WD 500 GB SATA in RAID 1 & 2 Ports

Have selected the two disks and configured for RAID 1.

The volume is recognized in the BIOS boot order

The Windows Device Manager sees tha RAID Controller but "cdsas09ws17" will not be installed. Have let it search the net for an alternative, but no luck.

Stayed in this part of the day. Could use a little help.

    * Update

    Update BIOS

    Updated device driver "cdsas09ws17".

Next steps... Install the operating system on it.

So, I was able to use RAID1 disk through windows 7 installed on SATA port. I feel good at this point. I have then unplug the SATA drive and start a new installation. Windows will ask the device driver, I point to the USB key containing "CDAS09WS17" and I get a "device signed drivers found.» How can I fix that?

Who would have thunk: Note that for 64 bit you must point to the amd64 folder. Installed!

  • Supermicro onboard Intel and Adaptec RAID configuration unrecognized in ESXi 5.5 U2

Hi, I have a supermicro X7DAL-E r1.1b motherboard has integrated Intel and Adaptec sata raid controllers. To enable raid controllers, I go into the BIOS and enable the raid configuration for intel or adaptec. I tried two raid controllers and created a configuration raid 5 by going through the bios of each controller. However, when I start to go through the process of installing ESXi 5.5 U2, I see not a logical drive, all I see are hard drives that I thought were configured as a logical drive in raid 5.

I know that I am using an old motherboard which is not on the HCL, but I just haven't the money to spend on equipment. I really want to make it work if possible. I tried to download ESXi 4 but it is no longer available . I understand I tried to use an older version to see if it contains the necessary drivers for it work and attempt to port these drivers in ESXI 5.5.

I was wondering if someone actually got this similar problem with supermicro Board and whether a solution or workaround has been found in which ESXi 5 can recognize the raid configuration? If this is impossible, it can't be done, that's what it is. I'll deal with it or put in place.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Not sure about this 'r1.1b' version, but original X7DAL-E has no onboard hardware raid controller. What he has is i5000 chipset, which offers the raid software-(aka bios-, faux-, etc.). This is not supported by ESXi (for very good reasons). And even if it were, no cache, you would get terrible performance...

  • An Ext + 2 = same PC hard disk catalog. HOW?

HAVE: Two PC (Mobile Office) and an external hardrive, LR 2.6 running.

WANT: To move the hard drive to one PC to another and to open and see the same catalog, I had on the other PC.  I keep the photos and the same lrcat together hard disk the same for transportability.

At the present time, when I do, I get an error opening to the other PC that says the catalog in not accessible and I need permissions or repair.  The other PC does not have permissions on the files, so I guess that Lightroom has a way to not let that happen.

How can I make it simple. I would like to avoid cutting and pasting a large number of permissions and lrcat orders take-out every time, when they are already on the ext hardrive.

    Thank you.

    Reference:

I would, of course, that adobe would make this simple.  She is asked for 3 years.  Someone please make a Plugin if Adobe is not.

It's really very simple. Assume that you have already in your catalog, previews and images on your external drive.

    1. you will need to assign a fixed drive on the disk (Win) or name (Mac) letter. In windows, this is done in the computer management console, in the control panel. You will need to do this on BOTH computers. Make sure you use the same drive letter. On Mac, I believe you just remame player, but I'm not 100%.

    2. you will need to you have presets stored with your catalog. Otherwise, you will not be able to save a develop preset, for example, and then use it on the other machine. To do this, opern LR and it's in the preferences of catalog. You will then need to copy any existing presets to use at this place.

    3. open LR while holding the SHIFT key. This will give you the option to select a catalog to open it. Navigate to the one you want and make sure you select this option to open by default. Do this on both computers.

    4. no plug-ins must be installed on both computers. You also need to copy the path of the external module on the portable player as it appears in the menu of LR. I won't explain it unless you really need.

LR should then, open the catalog even on both machines quite happy.

  • Initial configuration of RAID HP ENVY accidentally erased, deleted hard disk?

I was trying to see if I could find an option to change the my new laptop on AHCI SATA controller, but I should have checked more thoroughly online before trying something new in the BIOS.  It seems that these laptops are automatically in AHCI?

My laptop had a 1 TB SSHD and a 24GB flash hard drive Cache acceleration configured in RAID 0.  With my minimal knowledge of the AHCI, RAID and IDE, I thought that the withdrawal of the RAID configuration would give me a possibility to change the hard drive in AHCI controller.  Without thinking, I "removed" the RAID volume, and I think I have completely erase my new hard drive and the operating system, including the recovery partition.

When I start up the laptop, I get the error "boot device not found 3f0", and f11 does not work to try to get into the recovery mode.  The hard drive test always passes the two elements.  I ordered at HP USB recovery media earlier, but I don't know if there is anything else I can do?

I don't know exactly how the acceleration of the Disk Cache, but my main question is why only SSHD would be setup in RAID 0 factory mode, and if there is a good reason, how do I put up again after the reinstallation of the OS from the USB media?

After screwing my OS, I played in the BIOS to re - setup the RAID0, but I don't know that I've got it right.  I myself remember the size of the band was set to 128 KB, but I have no idea what was the "Capacity (MB)", or should I put it when I create new RAID?

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    Ryan

    Hi, Popo:

I didn't get the rush of shipped recovery media.

When you order by regular mail, it may take up to 10 days, so unless you're bored to death, so I would just wait until your recovery media is coming tomorrow.

Yes, you are right.  The file I gave you is a simple vanilla W8 version and there are no programs whatsoever other than that which accompanies the W8.

The product key in the BIOS of your PC will work with this file and you get the recovery media.

You can always want to DL this file and make a bootable DVD just as it is for future use.

After installing W8, you get the upgrade to W8.1 against the Windows store.

It may take a few hours to appear as a sort of update should run before updating the W8.1 appears in the Windows store.

You won't have to look for.

It will be displayed when you click the windows store.

You will be able to switch to W8.1 with the regular ISO W8 file, or your installation HP factory.

  • C220 M3 independent RAID / hard disk configuration

    Hi all

We recently received a C220 1.5.3b M3 which will serve as a virtual machine for Cisco servers. I have difficulty getting the machine to detect the hard drive, which I added. It does even not show the hard drive in the boot option in the BIOs. I watched some of the related topic and found this: http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-com...

The list of hard drives are given in table 11 of the document. At the end of the table, he States:

Approved (1) the RAID Configurations on board, mezzanine cards and all RAID PCIe controllers

If you have not selected the option upgrade integrated RAID (ROM5 or ROM55), a mezzanine card or a PCIe RAID controller on the internal disks (LSI MegaRAID 9271 - 8i or 9271CV-8i), you can select up to 4 drives SATA only which will be controlled with the only integrated SATA RAID controller.

Otherwise, select up to eight SAS + SATA drives listed in table 11. You can mix SAS and SATA drives

Does this mean C220 needs a RAID controller or a Mezzanine Card to detect a hard drive?

Also, should we use hard drives in table 11?

    Thank you!

    Greetings.

According the data sheet you have referenced, you may use any Sata disks listed with the controller on board.

If you have the ROM5/ROM55 or LSI megaraid card, then you can use one of the disks SATA or SAS registered.

If you bought the SAS drives, but strictly the sata controller integrated without the option ROM5/ROM55 chip, then do not see or be able to use the disks.

If you use other readers what can be found on the data sheet, the system will not recognize the readers.

If you have disks Sata and intend to use the built in software raid LSI, you will want to confirm that you have enabled the UCS ROM option (see http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/hw/C220/install/C220/raid.html#80418

Note that the embedded software raid controller is not supported in VMware.
