  Looks like you did a system rather than a system restore recovery.  If you have inserted a disc supplied with your machine and booted from it, you probably erased the disc and installed the original operating system provided with your computer.  Usually, a step in this recovery is to do a full format or quick of your drive.  If you did a full format, your data is permanently lost.  With a quick format, your data may still be there, somewhere but inaccessible by normal means.  Applications must generally be installed, in order to recover the files probably will not help unless you have the original installation media.  Your other data files (images, videos, financial data) may be salvageable, but at this point, it would be advisable to take your computer or your disk to a business/professional who is experienced with data disc recovery.  It will be cheap and there is no guarantee.

  Impatient, remember investigate you a backup strategy for your computer and critical data.  Hard drives can go wrong with little or no warning.

  I had this prob and Movie Maker did not. I tried Ctrl Alt Del and went to the Task Manager, and then went further with this. I did the backup file. Then I rebooted the computer, I think. When I open Movie Maker again once he said that Movie Maker is not shut down properly you want to restore from where you left off. So I did and it restored! I got about 10 hours of work.

  This message looks like a warning of S.M.A.R.T. notification
  This means that your HARD disk will eventually fail.
  It can happen in the next few days or it can't happen for a few months but the SMART feature has detected that the drive is wrong then it should be replaced as soon as possible.
  It seems that your laptop is not very old, so the warranty should cover all replacements.

  I see only one way to access and back up the data. Eventually, you could buy an external enclosure SATA USB HARD drive and was able to connect the HARD drive to another computer.
  I don't know if you will be able to access the HARD drive because of the failure, but if you want you can try this m.

  Apparently, my hard drive failed on my HP.  I'm running Windows XP with the latest service pack.
  I get a black screen that says "disk error, press ctrl + atl + del to restart".
  Given that it is a 7 year old computer, I don't see the need to put a lot of effort in intensive care there.
  But I would like to get some of the files on the hard drive.
  Can anyone suggest a way to access the contents of the hard drive?  I would like to get some Word, excel, PDF files.  Nothing major.

  If the drive has indeed failed then you need professional services which are very expensive. Best
  method would be to contact your local computer store, the other his own service in-house, and have
  check out them the disc. Eventually, they can recover your files and they know all local professional
  services available in your area.

• Files disappeared from LR (deleted?), but has pictures of LR and hard drive. How can I get the folder HD back structure in LR?

  I can be the first person to have ever done that. I don't know what I've done yet. I have spend hours to organize my folders. I had imported them all in the horrible mess that they were (many duplicates, etc.). After obtaining their almost perfect I went to delete what I thought, it was a trash folder. I think I must have accidentally deleted my pictures folder (where they were all stored). Strange is that the catalog has all the 10,000 photos, but I have no file. Not a single one. Not even the HD Mac one. All changes have been made in LR, I know better than to go messing around with something outside of Lightroom. All changes I made to the files are on the hard drive right now. I just need to find a way to find the LR folder structure. However, it won't let me import anything. When I try to add a folder nothing is re-elected under the menu folders. I don't know what to do. Help! I've been throwing these to print photos for a Christmas gift.

  Given that I'm not a MAC person, as far as I know is that this file preference is located in a hidden directory and so you must follow the instructions in the link.

  The user library file is hidden by default on Mac OS X 10.7 and later versions. For temporary access to the file library user, press Option and select go > library in the Finder.

  If you don't want to delete the preferences file, you can rename it instead, and Lightroom will create a new file, preferably when you launch Lightroom.
